I appreciate you getting the cost down for such an important safety device everyone that tows a trailer should have. Any thoughts on a heavier capacity (tripod device) that could measure 5th wheel pin weights? It would be nice to have something that let me dial in what I can put in the storage compartments and not exceed pin weight of the tow vehicle, before leaving home.
I like this extended and adjustable design, which avoids having to set up a raised platform to support something like a Sherline scale (or the home-made version that I use). Unfortunately, it has a fixed foot... it should have a pivoting foot to avoid any bending stress on the scale cylinder, for better accuracy. The scale should not be doing any horizontal location of the trailer at all.
I recently downloaded the CAT scale app. I was surprised how much weight was on my king pin. I had made mods in my fifth, which resulted in weight loss but more so in the rear of the trailer. Now, all of the heavy items in my pass through get stored at the rear under cabinets. Unfortunately, my rv’s fresh is full aft and the grey/black tanks are full forward.
This is a little off subject in relation to this video. Great video too by the way. I am really interested where you got your stabilizer pads; can you or will you advise please and thanks.
20 pounds is nothing in the grand scheme of things. Thats 2.5 gallons of water. I’d say with the difference between scales used on the video I would have no issue being 7 pounds over on either tongue weight or vehicle weight.
Curious how it would compare to a WeighSafe hitch. That I can use for multiple things, this is more of a single purpose tool. That may be fine if it's much more accurate.
I like this, but I'm still not a fan of the "1/2 Ton 3/4 Ton and 1 Ton" markings - as a lot of people will think those are "within this area your truck rating is ok" and not actual weights of Ton instead of pounds.
Don’t you need to make sure the trailer is level first? Just like a wheel barrow the higher you lift it the lighter it feels. Then once you put on your equalizer hitch on does the force down to. The hitch ball change?
As with other tongue weight scales, this will give you the tongue weight you currently have, but unless you know what the trailer weighs you have no idea what your target tongue weight should be. At least with the Sherline style scale you can use it to determine trailer weight and then determine your target tongue weight and verify were you are actually at.
@@N-M424 maybe you're referring to a different device. Or are you supporting the entire trailer on three jack stands, then substituting the scale for the stands, one at a time? All sorts of hacks are possible, but the Sherline is a small scale intended only for tongue weight.
@@brianb-p6586 There is only one basic Sherline scale with one or two slight variations over the years. Yes, what you described is one way to use Sherline scale to measure trailer weight. The point is that it can done and I have done it several times. Some people even use bathroom scales....
@N-M424 on the same basis, this tall scale could be in various designs of homebrew wheel scales to determine wheel, axle, and total trailer weights. It's cheap enough that some people might want to get a set of three, using one at the tongue and one at each wheel to get everything at once. Or not... the point is that it's just a 2,000 pound hydrostatic scale, like a Sherline.
Just don’t think the 1/2 ton, 3/4 ton scale should be on. Only weight of the trailer. Because in my region 85% of all new gm’s have max trailering package already installed. I pull 30ft 8500 lb gross weight travel trailer and tandem axel car haulers daily. I’m running 70-75 across country 5-6 times a year pulling my camper for work. Even though all the TH-camrs think you have to have 3/4 ton truck for a 5000 lb trailer. From my experience you’ll need a 3/4 ton for campers over 30-32 ft in length and 9000 lbs. And I live in east coast in the Pennsylvania mountains not Texas where there ares a single hill or hump lol . I hate videos of people in Kansas talking about pulling trailers, it’s kinda false advertising. My Colorado will pull anything in Texas as long as squat isn’t too bad
@@brianb-p6586 I understand that but it’s still a bad metric to use. You’ll never find a trailer that has label saying its gross weight or hitch weight is in fractions. Most can’t do fractions lol. It takes a simple number and complicates it
Slice a tennis ball open on 1 side to fit around scale when storing
AS ALWAYS I APPRECIATE YOU AND FAMILY

Looks fantastic !! Should come with a cover for the Guage glass, just like on cameras or binoculars.
Congratulations on your new product. Best wishes on future sales growth. I didn’t think that axle/tires were supposed to move on a turn?
Every dealer's shop should have one.

Put a slice in a tennis ball to protect the scale gauge 👌🏼
Would be nice if there was a foam cutout inside the bag….just something to think about….always enjoy your videos and reviews.
Form the cardboard box to fit inside the carry bag to add additional protection.

How about a version to weigh the pin weight for fifth wheels?
The tongue needs to be at the same height to compare scale readings - did you meaure to make sure that they were?
Nice product for those that think they need it...
Generally, the ones who don't think they need it, need it most...

Thanks for the quick reply and sharing that!!!!
Rats - just a month since I ordered the NON-BTBRV model of that scale from e-trailers 😞
Sorry brother
What model jack is on that trailer?

When is 5th wheel version coming out😊
Hopefully soon. Lots of additional thoughts, design, and engineering for fifth wheels
Mine arrived a couple of days ago in fine shape. I haven't used it yet but 'real soon now'.
Awesome! Thanks

Quite the price increase in the 2 months since this video was uploaded.
The paid comments are hilarious lol
Not sure what's up with them lol. I block them on every video. Bots are busy making new accounts every second.

Harderja, that's in the instructions and mentioned at about 2:40

A Sherline scale does exactly what this does - it does not help you determine trailer weight.

Those are trailer tongue weights. One ton is 2,000 pounds. The video's comments about truck size are confusing; the scale is not.

$0. Built in feature on Ford Super Duty. Sorry
Yep! Only need to pay $80k+ for it! I do love my truck scale though..
