Being from Canada, all those adjustments and quick release pins scare me. If you are hauling a travel trailer in the warm climates, it's fine, but if you are pulling a cargo trailer in the slush, sleet and snow, all of that stuff just becomes one big ball of ice. They are really nice hitches though. I always used an Equalizer hitch on our travel trailer when we had it, and it worked great. Great video guys!
I have 3 B&W tow and stow hitches. One for each vehicle including the wife’s suburban. I have 3 bumper tow trailers with 2 different ball sizes and 3 different heights. I have had the oldest one for close to 10 years now and the quality is second to none.
I'd like to see how different hitches effect a certain vehicle with the same trailer. For example, the rear end squat/front end lift of a half ton with a fairly large travel trailer using the Gen-y and the B and W. Would the longer length of the Gen-y cause more leverage and take more weight off of the front wheels of the tow vehicle?
I have been using the same three ball mounts for the past thirty years. They have outlived three tow vehicles. For me they are simple and height adjustable mounts were not something easily found 30 years ago. I also have a pintel hook to keep people from getting to close to the back of my truck. Stealth hitch looks like the future for e-car owners. Thank you for sharing and have a great day.
What size drop do you have for your Ram 2500? I just purchased a 20-foot utility trailer with a dovetail and am not sure what drop I would need. I have air rear suspension and haul a side by side or my 1025 tractor, and it doesn't drop much. I'm thinking a 5-inch drop because I'm not sure if I'll have enough ground clearance with the 7-inch drop.
@krouse07 I went with the 7" and glad I did.. I also pull a 20' equipment trailer with a John Deere 1023e or a Polaris Ranger 570-6. I also have a small 5' x 14' single axle trailer that needs me to use the bottom holes. I use one hole up from the bottom on the 20' trailer.
I have an Anderson aluminum hitch I've used for years which has the 2" and 2 5/16" hitch with the ability to adjust the height about 8 to 10". I have used it pulling both utility trailers as well as horse trailers and have been very happy with it. I feel Anderson makes some very good products.
Thanks for making this video there are so many hitches to choose from now. I’m impressed with my Gen Y Torsion hitch it’s huge but helps trailer bounce.
I use an 8" drop Weighsafe 180 hitch on my 16 Ram 2500. I absolutely love it! The locking system is fantastic and the fit and finish is outstanding as well! Great series JD!
Just got the weigh safe a few weeks ago for my F-250. Happy with it so far. It's been enlightening seeing the hitch weight on my different trailers and loads
I use the weigh Safe with the 4inch drop on my 19 Ford ranger, i like it for the fact i can get the tounge weigh just right. If i am just towing our car on my big tex 70ch 18 foot or any thing else on top of it. i know how far foward or back i need an item on to haul safely. love how light it is and i also use there hitch locks and coupler locks with the same key which is a great time saver. There customer service in great i just had to warrenty there hitch lock cause it sized up and had to cut it off and they replaced it free oif charge.
I'm a B&W guy. Been using a 2" shaft 5" drop tri ball for the last 4 years. I'm now going to upgrade to a 2-1/2" shank 7" drop to better utilize the new truck that tows more and sits taller. Living in Western NY I have to regularly maintain the hitch due to all the salt on the roads, but with a hours worth of time twice a year it still functions flawlessly.
I am saving my Pennys for the Gen-Y boss torsion flex… man oh man they aren’t cheap. I currently have a husky weight distribution hitch for my Ram 3500 / 10,000lbs travel trailer. I would like to see if the claims about improved tire wear and fuel economy are true.
I got a 12,000 lb aluminum drop hitch. I really like it, but one problem I had to correct. The steel pins mushrooms the holes and then the ball slide gets stuck and will not slide up or down. The fix countersink the holes on both sides by about 3/16.
still running a valley 4"drop hitch I bought in the late 90's used at a swap meet. I'm looking at others now because i'm getting a bigger/heavier trailer.
Weigh safe also makes a full line up of Goose hitch balls so you can weigh the amount of pin weight you put over your axle. They are a fantastic idea to make sure your trailer is loaded properly.
Another good overview of towing products and the variations of styles available. For a future video, how about looking at some of the lesser model hitches like you get from U-Haul, or Walmart, etc. There are many individuals out there that just want to tow something to move their lawn equipment or ATV’s around, or to pick-up or deliver something using a lighter trailer, regardless if it’s the open or completely enclosed style of trailer. I tow a Fifth Wheel now, but would want to add the ability to pull a trailer too in case I’m at an RV campground and am doing some volunteer work that necessitates hauling something to or from the campground or some historical site I’m supporting.
Weighsafe steel 8", you can also site them by turning then around. You don't get the wear like the aluminum & a higher weight rating but you still have the scale
I like the B&W stow away the best. Being a machinist and fabricator by trade, I made my own stow away hitch and works fantastic. Much like the way the B&W does. Saved about $200. I am always looking at better ways to make things and am considering modifying my hitch a little. Great videos.
I have a Fastway hitch purchased from e-trailer. Tow capacity 18,000 lbs. I like it; I don’t know about loving it. It works well with my trailer applications. I do wonder about 18,000 lbs at the lowest drop point of 5 1/2 or 6 inches. No disclaimers about the capacity at the lowest level, so I rock on. I may want to tow 7,000 lbs at lowest but no more than that.
Absolutely love my Fastway Flash scale hitch. Doesn't have hydraulic seals to go bad and leak. Also, the mechanical spring gives some cushion for the ride quality.
B&W hands down. I just couldn't mount that gen y off the back of my Denali. I can appreicate the better capacity of the B&W too. The weigh safe is a great idea, I like it but have never used one.
I have used a B&W tow and stow for all my vehicles for years and will likely never use anything else. I have their Patriot 18k for my 5th wheel. The only thing I do for maintenance is apply lithium grease to the pins periodically. It allows my truck to (barely) fit in a 24 x 24 garage when stowed.
Really like the build quality of the B&H but would need 4 locking pins, don’t need someone pulling pins out when I m hooked up and parked. For only that reason I’m thinking Weigh Safe
I don’t hate the B&W at all. Great company. I have a few Anderson’s like the weigh safe flip. Buuuuut I just ordered the GenY Boss 10k 5 hole for my Airstream and am looking forward to the entire thing, especially opening my tailgate while hooked up. They need more videos on the Boss torsion in action though!
I’ve been wanting a “drop hitch showdown”! This was good with some “live” interaction. I would have liked to see more pros/cons, height adjustment increments, ease of adjustment, user experience type stuff. I’m in the market and have been browsing e-trailer’s site, but can’t make a decision. I used an AlumaTow 6” drop for years without issue, now with a new truck I need a 10” drop. Gotta be made in the USA and be durable.
I have the B&W tow and stow 3 ball combo for my Silverado 1500 and tow my Bigtex 90SR dump trailer and the hitch works phenomenal. Just make sure to keep the pins greased so they do not seize up.
I've had a solid shank 3-way hitch for about a decade and it works great. However, I'll be getting a new hitch for my 22/23 F250 (soon I hope). I'm thinking that when I tow vehicles on a car hauler that the Gen-Y may be more comfortable with the rubber bushings? I don't tow long distances very often, but when I do I don't want to be jostled around like I was with my current setup. Then again, my current setup is an F150.... I'd like to be able to tow vehicles and tractors comfortably, and just not sure how much the hitch plays a role compared to the vehicle setup. If not much, I'd likely go with the B&W.
About to pull the trigger on a 2023 GMC 3500 Dually and one thing that keeps coming to mind is that all these hitches never include weight distribution or anti-sway. If my new truck handles 20K at the bumper, don't I need something like a Curt weight distribution or anti-sway? If I really don't, awesome, but towing my tractor and trailer 15K, I thought it was necessary???
I have a comment : for us the have cars that pull less then 2000 lbs. We have to use a drop mount upside down to level off and take tongue weight off. Is it safe to do so? The design doesn’t look like it! But you see all the time. Any options for as lite weights ? Lol
Some trailers have pintle hitches. It’s basically an eye that sits down over the ball and then you have a latch over it to keep it secure. If you google it you’ll get a better picture of what it looks like. But In my opinion the B&W setup you saw is not ideal for a pintle hitch. They make a special pintle hitch receiver that secures the trailer better.
Often used for heavier trailers, youll see them on constuction sites a lot of times, it uses a ring rather than a cup, basically wraps around the ball in this case rather than going directly over it. It also allows for a bit more flexibility in the connection.
Mostly military and construction. They're most generally a heavier more robust system for heavy duty use. They're also a simpler and more foolproof design.
the gen y has a wdh shank that you can purchase to use with their hitch but they don't have their own complete wdh set up (head and bars) so you would still have to use something like a equalizer, blue ox, or curt
Nice hitches, non of them have sway or equalizing capabilites, that i saw anyways. So these are great when you donnt need those things but often you do and ppl don't realize they do until you see them on the road, swaying or sagging.
Gen-Y sells sway bars and WDHs that directly work with their drop hitches, they also have stabilizer bars that mount to your receiver and come down to the hitch. I’m not sure on the other ones but i know for a fact Gen-Y has em.
Actually, I’m not so sure they have a whole WDH set up but they do have the sway control and the WDH shank with the torsion flex so you can bolt a WDH head on
The Gen y hitches look like they have a lot of unnecessary steel on them and stick out way to far. In my opinion B&W is the way to go if you’re towing trailers with different ball sizes.
Love the electrical junction box on the wall behind the hitches 😂😂
B&W stow and go for me. Love the low profile and high towing capacity.
Currently using a Bulletproof. It's pretty beefy but I also like the B&W.
Being from Canada, all those adjustments and quick release pins scare me. Great point- I hadn't thought of that possibility.

My vote is Gen Y. Solid shank and ability to adapt a WDH to it is what wins it for me.
I use a Curt 45926 adjustable 10 inch drop hitch. Simple and beefy.
I am using the bulletproof hitch on my F450 right now and I likening it so far.
I have been using the same three ball mounts for the past thirty years. They have outlived three tow vehicles. Just bought a 3” b&w with a 7-1/2 “ drop and i love it

B&w 2.5in tow and stow now comes with 18kgvw rating previous was 14.5k.

Good Morning My Good Bro Of Big Truck & Big RVs
Weigh safe also makes a full line up of Goose hitch balls so you can weigh the amount of pin weight you put over your axle. They are a fantastic idea to make sure your trailer is loaded properly.
I use a propride for my RV, and a b&w for anything else... I've used it once to help a friend move their RV is all so far.

I like the Reese I picked up from Tractor Supply.

Fifth wheel and gooseneck, I always use B&W products. Hitch mount I always use Gen Y.

I like Curt forged adjustable hitches.
Absolutely love my Fastway Flash scale hitch. Doesn't have hydraulic seals to go bad and leak. Also, the mechanical spring gives some cushion for the ride quality.
The hole in the ball shank on the gen-y is also for their Pintle guard and their proprietary sway ball.
I've had a gen-y since they first came out and have used it on multiple rigs. The tri ball and the pintle adaptor are great
B&W hands down. I just couldn't mount that gen y off the back of my Denali. I can appreicate the better capacity of the B&W too. The weigh safe is a great idea, I like it but have never used one.

Big fan of the curt secure latch for my pintle trailer. Way less movement from the lunette ring.
Really like the build quality of the B&H but would need 4 locking pins, don’t need someone pulling pins out when I m hooked up and parked. For only that reason I’m thinking Weigh Safe
I have the Anderson rapid hitch. real light weight
Gen-Y hands down for me!
B&W for me, looking at ordering as we speak.
I been using B&W for 4 years on 2 different trucks ,nothing wrong with it,but I’m going to try weight safe 3” shuck on my 2022 f250 I hope I like it
B&W all the way, I have an aluminum hitch but it does wear out.
I don’t hate the B&W at all. Great company. I have a few Anderson’s like the weigh safe flip. Buuuuut I just ordered the GenY Boss 10k 5 hole for my Airstream and am looking forward to the entire thing, especially opening my tailgate while hooked up. You should compare the hitches at e trailer to the ones at Haber fright.
B&W is king in my opinion.
Love my Gen-Y!
What about stabilization hitch
Did/are you doing a review of W/D hitches at eTrailer?
I like B&W !
Hey did you know that a 12k rated aluminum 10" drop hitch will snap in half if you tow 16k pounds with it lmao
What purpose does a pintle serve?
Some trailers have pintle hitches. It’s basically an eye that sits down over the ball and then you have a latch over it to keep it secure. If you google it you’ll get a better picture of what it looks like. But In my opinion the B&W setup you saw is not ideal for a pintle hitch. They make a special pintle hitch receiver that secures the trailer better.
I always just remove and stow my weigh safe hitch under my rear seat.
Gen y torsion is up to 80lbs 😂 let’s just say I don’t care to ever remove it once it’s on 😂
Thank you sir
How about a gen y vs bulletproof hitch comparison video
Are stealth hitches there so you don't get caught by the tow police? Lol
What about Torklift?
How about a Shocker drop hitch
Good reviews on those, but for those of us that don't know (me) what is the pintel used for?
Often used for heavier trailers, youll see them on constuction sites a lot of times, it uses a ring rather than a cup, basically wraps around the ball in this case rather than going directly over it. It also allows for a bit more flexibility in the connection.
Mostly military and construction. They're most generally a heavier more robust system for heavy duty use. They're also a simpler and more foolproof design.
The pintel style hitch is used on semi trailers in the "tandem " or double trailer applications also.
The GynY and B&W have weight distribution with them or is that an extra feature?
the gen y has a wdh shank that you can purchase to use with their hitch but they don't have their own complete wdh set up (head and bars) so you would still have to use something like a equalizer, blue ox, or curt
Be nice if B&W had a wdh.
The money you have caused me to spend over the years is absurd!!! hahaha
great video

I’d love to know prices
best hitch locking pin ??
I'll make a video on that soon. InfiniteRule are my favorite locks
The Gen y hitches look like they have a lot of unnecessary steel on them and stick out way to far. In my opinion B&W is the way to go if you’re towing trailers with different ball sizes.
Do 5th wheels next.
I like the shock loaded setups.
You forgot a company thats called bullet proof hitch
GOD is so good he even saved and changed me!!! Just had to get this out, turn to him he will do the same for you amen!!!!
