Excellent review, looks like a great helmet mounted thermal and broad field of view, short range spotter. It does exactly what it was designed to do. The 70% probability recognition and identification distances for a man sized object for this device are 200m and 100m. Your honesty and accuracy are appreciated.
So far so good, did some tests in the backyard and out in the desert. It is nifty to have, but you need to play with your settings and figure out your preferences. I did get an email about getting an update that helps delay on screen; gonna look into.@@Vinnytwotime
Thanks again for making these videos! Appreciate the help .. Armasight released a Firmware update #5067 for the Sidekick 640 , just downloaded and updated but havent had a chance to dig into it yet to see any changes
Good vid! Was hoping for a Sidekick review sometime. Really unfortunate the onboard recording is so mushy and compressed. :/ The doggo up close looked nice and crisp like the Chinese 640's I've used. Good price point for the Sidekick, too. Cool to see US thermals catching back up in value. (also learning that FLIR just slapped their logo on Armasight's Breach is... hilarious to me.)
FLIR did more than that. They actually bought Armasight, so some of that FLIR engineering went to it. Sadly, FLIR ditched their civilian scopes, and the two companies parted a little ways back. The Breach was the only remaining product from that endeavor
sidekick vs sting-IR vs mh25?? which one would be best for pairing with pvs14, highest refresh rate, image quality, zoom, any other traits etc? can the sidekick screen adjust for the angle that the device is worn and to make the bottom of the screen parallel to the ground and not at some off angle? is the vision thru the screen a true 1:1 like a pvs 14? or are objects closer than they appear? how is the eye relief when worn with pvs14? Thank YOU.
I’m partial to the Sidekick as the best head mounted monocular. The menu allows you to shift the image so you can align it with the PVS-14. The Rayvn Rail is best bridge IMHO as it has the best mechanical IPD adjustment to help align it even more and it comes with everything you need.
Hey Will... Been a while since you made this video but very informative... I was wondering if you have had a chance to compare this unit with the N-Vision Nox 18. I see there are a few different features between the Two, but basically, I was interested to see if the Nox had better recognition distance than the Armasight ? It appears to be a significant difference and wondered if the extra is worth it. Having a small Thermal helmet mounted along with a Pvs-14 would help finding warm things before they find you...
What is the millikelvin rating of the Sidekick 640? Edit: Nevermind about the above question. I contacted them directly and was informed the NETD is 40mk. Also, what remote USB battery pack do you recommend?
I just ordered the last one you had in stock. Do you have any good way of attaching a neck strap to it? Maybe the rail using an adapter of some type? Thank you!
Nice 👍🏼 if you’re good with paracord I’d loop it behind the eyepiece. Otherwise the better solution is to modify a mini-rail adapter like the Noisefighters mini-rail adapter. It actually has a spot for a bolt that you can run paracord through
Looks very similar to me. The “Target” mode seems to work a bit better than the similar mode on my MH25. The digital zoom does seem to be more pixelated than on my MH25, maybe due to the output screen being lower resolution? (MH25 is 1280x960, Sidekick is 1024x768).
Conditions play a very significant role in thermal performance. This is a short range device, with short focal length and best in class field of view. FOV is very, very important for a helmet mounted device particularly in built up areas.
It has a 640 core and 12 micron pixel pitch with a 19mm focal length - its not magnified because its designed to be helmet mounted and provide a large FOV for short range situations - in fact it has a best in class FOV. Keep in mind conditions matter a great deal with thermal.
@@yaneemdetey The IR patrol costs twice as much, weighs twice as much, is 30 Hz and you don't know how it will perform in the same conditions at the same frame rate. Its helmet mounted you want and need field of view and you want and need the best cycle rate.
Please for the love of god, stop smacking your lips every other sentence. It's so annoying. Other than that I like the vids but they're hard to watch when I have to hear you smacking your lips. Please stop doing that.
Great video man. It's good to see a sidekick 640 in the wild. Been waiting a long time.
Thanks brother. I expect more folks will be producing content about it soon since they started shipping now

Great job and thank you for the time and effort to make this review. Very helpful! Nice job
Getting mine soon from TNVC; 3 to 4 week waiting period. Hoping it works great with a bridge setup. I appreciate you.
How did it work out? I have a 14 and looking to bridge this. Any problems with yours?

I really wanna see the 320 model reviewed to see how it stacks against a stingir 384 etc

How much better is the Nox18 image quality wise as a handheld? Is this image quality in this device the same as the Jockey 640?
@@thegolflife7565 No, it’s not the same quality.
What is the millikelvin rating of the Sidekick 640?

Is the NOX18 not referenced for a reason? great video!
No reason and thank you

Is there a way to mount this on a rifle with a flip mount like what's used for magnifiers?
No, this is a monocular only
This image quality is concerning. How does this stack up against iRay products?

I think it’s compressed when downloaded. I just ordered one from another retailer and will be here this week, gonna compare it to my mh25v2

@@VK6AB- Good point. The Sidekick’s FOV is ~24x17 (similar to NOX18) whereas the MH25 is only ~17x13.
@@ngaoutdoors4157can you please update on your comparison? I’m between buying one of those two units
Is the mini rail similar to a picatinny rail? or is is a special rail only for NV mounts?
It’s different and there are specific mounts just for this type of rail. It’s the same rail that the FLIR Breach uses
@@NITEWALKER-NIGHTVISION Thank you!
How does the ravyn bridge compare to the knight bridge? Which do you prefer?
Is there a way to mount a dovetail for the Wilcox FTC to use as a clip on?
You’d need to make a mini-rail to dovetail FTS dovetail spade adapter
@@NITEWALKER-NIGHTVISION that’s beyond my skill set 🤣

Can you weapon mount this like the agm stingir as a psuedo clip on or no
No, it’s not designed for it.

Why do they always go with 16650 instead of 18650 🤦♂️
16650 is physically close to the same diameter as CR123A and this unit can run both. 18650 is much larger
for a 640 core its looks just... even iray is better
Image looked pretty terrible compared to other 640 options.
I wonder what humidity was in these test?
