I'm an introvert and can't even be in church without feeling extremely awkward. Greeting people after the service is so hard i come across so cold, i go home and rethink everything obsessively. I know God has made me this way for a reason because the flip side of this is i have great empathy and sensitivity that others do not experience. It's hard to leverage, but I pray God that he uses me just the way i am.
Thanks for sharing. I'm an extrovert who has (as of late) realized I do have a pretty introverted side as well. And I think it's wack that Christian culture tends to prize extroversion. So for someone like me I need to deny myself to be with the Lord and to pray and to be a good listener.
Same! I'm trying to analyse myself and I always think that maybe I'm doing something wrong, or maybe I come across as cold, because I'm not loving other people as much as I should. I'm trying to understand if I'm still on the process of becoming who God really made me to be, or if I'm really supposed to be like this
@@Iffmeister Ha, I never thought of that. I have to force myself to be in ministry because I really would prefer to study instead. I completely feel the tension.
I resonate with this too especially when the pastor advices us to not leave church so quickly after we finish and instead we should make some new connections with people are kind me I feel so nervous and i come across so cold hahaha
@@ShekinahFineArt I think the idea is for us to take the time to get connected, and to find someone who we can be friends with. I guess some people (people like you and me lol) need the kick in the pants.
Essi Galley Shyness and introversion aren’t equanimous. Reluctance is a lack of courage - a virtue God calls us to. If you are introverted like me, attempt to bend your situation to your personality. Don’t bend yourself to your situation. That leads to misery, and God dos not call us to that.
You are not introvert you are a child of God you are made knew in Christ the Spirit of Christ that is in you is happy to see your brothers and sisters in church to shake there hands and tell them God bless you how are you stuff like that.
I'm shy and introverted too, and I hate small talk. But I love to teach the Bible or deliver a message (I am a public school teacher). I even go to a prison and preach to the men, and it's like I am another person up there. I can feel the Holy Spirit working in me when I do, so that working together really makes me happy. Over the years I have become a fearless public speaker, yet having to keep the conversation going over a meal drives me crazy. Isn't that weird?
You can be a shy extrovert. I’ve met many. But if you mean you are a shy introvert, you don’t have to be a street corner, open air preacher. You don’t have to hand out tracts to strangers. I mean, if God specifically said to YOU to do that, then by all means, don’t offend the Holy Spirit. But for an introvert, this is uncomfortable and people see through it and don’t respond very well bc they can see we are uncomfortable and it just makes the whole thing awkward and unbearable for everyone involved. For introverts, our job is to make deep, lasting relationships with people and pour into their lives as Christ did to his followers. If you have children, pour into their lives. You don’t have to walk up to strangers and chit chat and then hit them over the head with a Bible. Get to know a few people and have those deep conversations you crave. And when trust and relationship is established, faith is usually a place conversation goes. People will value your input and your opinion bc you have invested in their lives. THAT is the introverts calling as a Christian. Leave open air preaching to the extroverts.
Easier Galley You can be anything God calls you to be! He qualifies you 💗💗💗 If He is for you who can be against you? If He is behind you your plans will succeed and touch the most souls. Listen to His leading 💗💗 Not about pleasing people but about doing what He asked because He knows what will reach the most souls and when you are weak, He can be that strength and shine through you even more! You got this, and Hes got you! 🙏🏻
A meek and quiet spirit is a great price to God. 1 Peter 3:1-4. There’s nothing wrong with being quiet and reserved. But we all have to speak up when it’s time to
@@-Viva-Cristo-Reyright they pick on you for being quiet sometimes saying less on more . If God tell us to speak then we speak but it’s okay to be quiet humble and meek lowly at heart
The US idealizes extroversion and sadly the church has followed suit, making many introverted Christians feel out of place. Unfortunate, since neither personality trait is superior. Both are necessary as they balance each other.
@Maria Hilton And when we try to reach out for a connection we get rejected. Being excluded amongst our own brethern cuts to the core. That's why I've stopped trying and attending church. I just watch online and give to charities.
@Maria Hilton Not American but I go to a church (not in d States) with quite many Americans. Quite a number of introverts there. & no, people in general are not always horrible. Though some of d Americans there are quite rude.
Just because people are introverted doesn't mean their depressed or sad or won't take part in activities. We all have a destiny, it's god's plan for us. You don't have to be a superstar, it can be things that are very simple. We just have to trust in Jesus that the destiny his father gives us in life will be fulfilled.
Some of the extroverted displays of church community, like handshakes with the entire congregation, holding hands with strangers during prayer, etc, are very difficult for an introverted newcomer.
Research has shown there's little or no data supporting Myers-Briggs. It's a fake system. But it's very effective in dividing the church and creating a victimhood mentality.
Joel Tunnah when I have to shake hands or say hello to the congregation on Sunday I feel terrified but God always eases my spirit, so I can get through what feels like an eternity which actually is a second of my life. Yes, I’m introverted!!
I've always been introverted. The way I reach people is through helping them. I feel very uncomfortable speaking so I try to let my actions speak for me
I am an introvert and out of nowhere God put it on my heart to follow Him. I never really was a religious person. So, this proves to me and all doubters the Holy Spirit is real. Out of nowhere, I heard a calling. Just wanted to share this with my new found brothers and sisters. Praise God!
Introvert or not, you Tim were the only one that had answered my cry for help when I had reached out online to a few Christian sites. Since then you have lead me to many amazing preachers besides yourself that have helped me in understanding Gods word. I thank the Lord for you for your kindness and continued guidance . God bless you!
I'd like to hear more about how to leverage the gift of introversion to serve God in unique ways, instead of just hearing about how to serve God "in spite" of introversion.
I am also an introvert. In fact, I have been so all my life(and I'm 22). I am also a church and worship leader. Some days I feel so energized and almost feel like an extrovert(almost I said), but that usually lasts just for a couple of weeks then I becoming as shy as I ever was again(:-D). I think the trickiest part in being an introvert is first of all acknowledging that it's okay to be one(I struggle with that a times) no matter what it seems like on the outside(what people say, the fear of missing out because your introvert etc). And secondly, as Tim said, introvert is not who I am, but it's what I am. Hence, being an introverted should not stop me from being all that God has called me to be; a kind, loving, self-controlled... person(Gal 5:22) and it should not stop me from obeying God. May God help us all to being the wonderful introverted people that we are in Christ.
Antoine Badi I relate to you so much. When I lead worship I'm super comfortable but at other times or gatherings when it's more social I'm not comfortable. I go through phases where I'm energetic and more outgoing but then get more introverted too. Regardless, its helpful to know that God will always help me when He calls me to something more extroverted and in those scenarios it's a place where I definitely have to trust Him.
I’ll be honest. I have my days. Some days I can face the world and keep up with mingling/fellowshipping but other days I simply just cannot. If I don’t feel like being there I leave service as fast as I can. No self torturing necessary.
Thank you for this. I’m a Christian and an introvert in a very extroverted, gregarious family. My relatives have always made me feel like something’s wrong with me when I’m simply just the type who doesn’t speak unless if I feel it’s necessary, and I like to pray to the Lord quietly and keep my conversations with Him private.
I don't see anything from Scripture that looks unfavorably on a person who it guarded and reserved. I believe that the Proverbs actually affirms such a person.
@@sparklegirl5508 Yup! I like the scripture Matthew 6:6: "When you pray, go into your room, close the door, and pray to your Father in secret. And your Father, who sees in secret, will reward you." It describes me perfectly, lol.
@@Rose0004 Same 💫 I've been Christian and social media evangelist since 2019, but never had any church or fellowship lol, basically cuz I'm from India so it's hard to find biblical churches here. I did find a good strong doctrine one this year , even gave testimony publicly there, (oh how much grace of God it took for me to do that lolz) but now having issues with the ppl at church, though I rarely go, they're gud but every introvert finds social ppl bit annoying cuz extroverts smtimes don't have much sympathy and cross boundaries while talking , can come off rude 😅 It's like me- Matthew 6:6 they- Hebrews 10:25 😂
as introverts we are also very sensitive. i am more sensitive to noise and chaos.i am physically and emotionally exhausted much of the time.i think we need to finbd unique ways to contribute alone. you can pray alone. you can write alone. you can bake goodies to give people alone. it's wonderful to be introverted we just need to contribute in our uniqueness.
@@DorcasTPembele God will help us break through the boundaries that keeps us blocked in. I remember wanting to talk to someone anyone at the church I was going to, but I was sooo scared. But I heard in my spirit, break through the glass, so I did and talked to the people behind me and just told them of what happened to me that day and how I felt like I had failed, but God had showed my that I didn't fail. And to my shock the lady said that she was actually going through something similar. And as I am growing more and more in relationship with Jesus, I'm realizing the true freedom He wants us to experience and also how much we are needed in the body. If we love each other, we have to be willing to have an open heart to our brothers and sisters in Christ. A lot of us are going through the same things Or have been through something someone else has, and we can bring joy hope and comfort to them. And then they will be made whole and be able to do the same. Each one of us are made in God's image, and just think, all of us in Christ are an aspect of Who He is. That alone brings joy to my heart and makes me want to truly cherish His body :)
@@gerrydean7696 I know a sister in church who with a full heart helped her family, but instead of getting some type of appreciation back, her family devices to curse her instead. Comes to show that it is the little things you don't always have to do these big things to show your love. Sometimes it can be the simple fact of turning around and saying hi to the person behind you. I'm was extremely introvert so the thought of even saying "have a blessed Sunday" to someone I knew at church was like going to the moon and back. But I have prayed for it God has helped me with this problem, and it is still hard but I can feel myself get more comfortable in different types of situations. God bless🙏
When I accepted Christ in my life, I used to think myself as an “introvert” because that is what the world used to call me or define me and I do know I’m shy I the beginning but I asked Christ to use me as he pleased and if he wanted me to reach other souls and preach the gospel to change me and help me to live people like he wanted me to love them, God is doing it. Praise the Lord because we are not who the world tell us we are but who the Lord says we are.
Well, I most certainly needed to hear this. Being an introvert in a foreign country and not speaking the local language is a disaster. But God is faithful, he'll get me through this
I think we somehow tell ourselves that we need lots of friends and people around us. For introverts like us, maybe just a few are better, maybe sometimes even one. Remember also that the Holy Spirit is your one true friend and companion. He is closer than a brother, even if you are an introvert... or even ESPECIALLY because you are an introvert.
Same. I feel so shy and fear to talk to people sometimes in here. I'm also living in a foreign country where I didnt grow up speaking the language here. It's a struggle, because it's a different language. I pray that God will help me through this.
The scripture that calls me out on my introversion: Hebrews 10:24-25 “And let us consider one another in order to provoke love and good works, not neglecting to gather together, as some are in the habit of doing, but encouraging each other, and all the more as you see the day approaching.”
Helpful Creation Don’t forget: the church is not a building, it’s a people. Where two or more are gathered, that is enough. Consider that the Holy Spirit lives within you. You are not merely one any longer. The scripture doesn’t call anyone out on introversion because it’s not concerned with it.
I think it’s important for introverted Christians to realize that they are just as loved by Jesus as anyone. Not everyone is called on to worship God or to do evangelism in the same way. The introvert does not need to feel guilty about having other gifts and serving God in ways that they find God leading them.
Absolutely agree. I enjoy doing acts of service. I may not have a lot to say to others, but I have a lot to do for others. There are so many ways we can minister to others that doesn't always require a lot of talking. God can use what we have for His kingdom. This is what I'm learning.
Geez, being introvert is so hard!!! Your anxiety before you go to church is on top! Especially when it's a small church and you are force to speak😭 sometimes it makes me not want to go :(( but hopefully in the future i can gain self confidence. Praying really helps so yeh
I'm painfully introverted. Since the virus hit, as an introvert, I'm extremely happy to be told to stay home. I did try going to church before this all began ( my brother was a pastor and I went with my mother and joined his congregation ) but then he came to me one day and told me he was leaving that church ( for personal reasons and the new church where he was offered a new position with was over 100 miles away) so I felt a bit like I had been deserted but I did continue going to the church my brother had left until my mother decided she no longer wished to attend that church as well. We tried another church but it wasn't the same, the people were a bit distant so we left that church too. I decided that I would just attend services online, it was better because I have a hearing problem and it's wonderful to be able to use the close captioning and not miss out on what's being said, plus I didn't have to start over in a new congregation ( which being an extreme introvert was very challenging to begin with ) I have felt guilty for not finding another church to attend and that I was using my introversion as an excuse, but I love my morning Bible study and I can watch all the videos online that I want. ( Ray Comfort is one I watch daily ) I do share online via Facebook and messenger important lessons I've learned and our Father's word.
Silence is golden and quiet strength is appreciated by many Christians. Christians are natured differently and can serve God in different ways according to His purpose. Your demeanor is no accident. God knows what He is doing in your life. I wouldn't look at it as something that needs to be changed.
I'm very intoverted as well but God does have a blessing for us when we are with other people. "And let us consider one another in order to stir up love and good works, not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as is the manner of some, but exhorting one another, and so much the more as you see the Day approaching." Hebrews 10: 24-25
I can really relate to this, as an introvert, being a singer in a worship band at the front of church I'm comfortable, but as soon as I'm to mingle amongst the congregation it's a challenge for me, I'm now not in my comfort zone. I used to think what's wrong with me, it's nice to know that there are other people the same.
Katie Dorey I get where your coming from .. I use to think that singers who didn’t come around to introduce themselves amongst the congregation were stuck up and rude. But now I kinda get why.. However, because of that, I’ve always made it a point to introduce and talk to the visitors and new people. Atleast.
I had a job where I was constantly talking to strangers as well as people I knew. Did it comfortably but the moment I left the job I was just me again. I do understand, but it’s odd
I’m an introvert in a family of extroverts. I fought it all my life growing up. My dad was class president, my sister was most popular, my other family members all have a huge flock of friends. One day, I was being prayed over and the prayer said “this is God’s quiet and gentle child”. At that point I realized God made me this way. He will equip me for exactly what He wants me to do, just as He did Moses.
I am a really shy person and awkward whenever someone shakes my hand in the church. I really can't stand talking to a stranger for a long time and really picky in choosing friends. I have friends, but I don't want to be to be really close to me. And I got drained when a friend continues to check on me. This makes me think that maybe I am really not fit in spreading the good news, that I can't do it. Maintaining relationships and making friends are already difficult for me. Sharing the gospel has been the hardest. But I realized you are right. We are called to deny ourselves, and obey Christ. That this introversion must not get in the way of what He called us to do. I am really convicted for making an excuse not to love people. And I seem to forget that God will give us power to overcome our shortcomings. Introvert or not, we should obey God
Thank you so much, I am introverted I very rarely go out, preferring to stay at home and read my bible and have time with Jesus my saviour. Also I have an incurable illness, so it makes life difficult for me.
Thank you for sharing! I love Our FATHER more than anyone or anything! I love the Gospel but it is difficult for me to share it. Although I share it occasionally, I feel much guilt for not sharing it more. GOD bless you, your family and All our Brothers and Sisters in CHRIST JESUS.
I need my alone time, but it's not alone time at all. I use this time to draw closer to Jesus, to talk with Him, to love Him and to recieve His love. I use this time to read His word. We can't live without His word. I also use this time to pray for others. I pray for the body of Christ and I pray for the lost. I'm not out in the public much, but it is very draining, unless it is at church, which I love. When I am at work, it's more difficult to be around people because mostly they are unsaved. I try to witness to them... People really don't want to hear it, so I plant a seed and go on. I love Jesus and cherish our time together. It all comes down to that anyway. Christianity is not a religion, it's a relationship. When I die and stand before Him, I know that He will know who I am because I spend countless hours with Him now.... Fall in love with Jesus!
Oh my goodness... I'm not alone in this! This is me every day, I just adore spending time with Jesus, journaling with him and getting deeper into his Word. And praying. I'm So in love with Jesus too
Yes socialising is not Christianity. A Christian spends time with Jesus not with the world. Extroverts are friends to the world of which Jesus warns us against.
I've been struggling about this topic for the past 2 years. Thinking something was wrong with me or that I had to change. I still feel stuck. But this video was the answer to my prayers and cry outs and it showed me that I'm not alone, that I'm not crazy. This is real and we need to talk about this in church!
I appreciate this so much. I am an introvert with some extrovert characteristics. But lean much more heavily towards introversion. I agree that God makes people differently and have come to accept that I will never be an extrovert. It seems that especially people in the church will judge a person as if being an introvert is somehow sinful. Like we need to come out of our shells for Jesus or something. But denying who God made a person to be and pretending to be someone I am not is not what God intended. Instead we need to recognize God’s creative genius in making people differently according to His own plan and learn how to best utilize each personality type’s strengths to achieve the most for His kingdom purposes. Then we will be working with one another instead of focusing on which personality is right or wrong, which is just silly anyway. We should each use every ounce of who we are to direct people to Christ and obey Him in all things regardless of personality type. Thanks for this. Good stuff.
I think it's worthwhile to note that your experience of introversion may be very different from other peoples'. I also speak for a living, but social situations, including ones at church, can cause me to totally shut down, even bringing me to tears.
It's more a question of the amount of stimulus the individual's system works well with than this superficial inner/outer characterisation. Putting continual pressure on people to go after everyone they encounter is just a way of the group keeping control over the individual by instilling a sense of falling short and hence guilt.
I am very content to be home alone or with my husband. But staying where I’m comfy goes against the Biblical idea of “bodyhood,” getting together with other Christians for the purpose of building each other up. One of my friends was surprised to hear I’m actually introverted. He said that I seem “very social.” Well, I try to engage because I really do love people, but it is exhausting.
Reminds me of a former coworker that said: "Who told you that you were shy, introverted, antisocial, and had nothing to say?" Actually being introverted (to me) is a gift. In a way it means we're likely to be more independent and be careful in what we say. I have loads of opinions and thoughts about life. I just choose carefully who I share these things with. I also know who actually doesn't care what I have to say because they already have their mind made up in judgement of me and what they think I'm like so why waste my breath on them? Lol.
GOD BLESS YOU. I LOVE THE MESSAGE, IT GAVE ME RELAXATION BECOZ I THOUGHT BEING AN INTROVERT MEANS THIS IS SOMETHING WRONG BECAUSE WERE BEING CALLED TO PREACH TO OTHERS
Hey brother. Just found your channel, its a part of my feed now. This isn't the first time that a video of yours has come up that directly addresses a question I have in my heart. Isn't that interesting? I think so. Thanks, brother.
Thank you, Tim. Just ran across this wonderful video. As a lifelong introvert, I don't really get this level of understanding from most people whether Christian or not. Indeed, one atheist psychologist I knew causally (not therapeutically, thank God) asserted that introversion per se is pathological. No Christian has been quite so rejecting, but a fair number have indicated that introversion is somehow sinful or at least not part of God's plan. I have heeded God's call and done the tasks He has set before me, some of which involved public speaking. In the nursing home where I am a permanent resident due to my disabilities, I have been the President of the Resident's council, chairing council meetings and speaking to management on behalf of those who could not speak for themselves. I was for six months also interim (lay) pastor of our in house church whose attendance kept increasing. Preaching the gospel to sometimes forty residents and staff did not come naturally to me, but God's grace is entirely sufficient.
I'm an introvert myself. Yes, you are right. It is not an excuse to not preach the Gospel. I ask the Lord to give me the words and courage to preach the Gospel face to face. And I was able to share the Gospel with people verbally. Even homeless people. So yeah, I do get out of my comfort zone as an introvert.
Thank you so much for speaking on this sometimes difficult topic. I really appreciate the perspective you provide and being an introvert I'm excited about more opportunities in the future for God to work in and through difficult situations to stretch and grow me as a person but more importantly as a follower of Christ. Please continue this valuable work! Thanks again.
I like being a introvert it’s who I am. I’m not shy or anxious around people. I just like being alone. I like going out with mates and doing my hobbies with people (sports etc) but I don’t like being in crowds of people and I don’t like attention
I’m an introvert (who grew up a huge extrovert - not sure how that change occurred), but I don’t think people in my church family would know it. I sing in the choir and one morning during greeting time, I leaned over to the row in front of me and said “how are you?” to a woman. She thought I said “I love you” and got so excited and said “I love you too!” I could have died of embarrassment because I’d never be that brash (I didn’t know the lady very long at that time), but it actually made her feel very good and seeing that made me feel much better. It’s easy to feel guilty for being introverted because most church leaders happen to be extroverted and simply don’t understand that some of the things they do and ask us to do horrify us. But this video was very helpful, as was the reminder to deny ourselves.
tim spangler I’m so sorry you sometimes feel depressed and not supported! I think David felt the same way in the Bible. That must be why I find so much encouragement from reading the Psalms. Do you find that that helps you?
Rebecca Jane Not to be crass, but it was probably puberty. My wife was the same: extroverted kid, introverted from pubescence onward. Same with me. Deny yourself? Absolutely not. No Christian leader should expect you to go against your nature for their sake. Instead, serve where your introversion is of greatest service to YHWH.
@@sirrevzalot That's what I think people don't understand. Introverts desires and wishes should be respected to. Now if God calls us to do something. We should do it. But as people, we should respect everyone's uniqueness, talents, and gifts and let people service according to their own talents and gifts that God has given us.
The way introverts reach people to Christ doesn’t have to look the same way it does for extroverts. Maybe God called some of us to have internet ministries where we reach people in a different way, or to write amazing books about Him or stories with godly morals. There is not only one way to spread the gospel because there is not only one kind of Christian.
Thank you for your bold obedience. I still struggle with embracing and living my purpose here. I feel invisible, useless, and other lies the enemy lines up, which are reinforced by being ignored by many people, including other Christians. I pray I can overcome this before it's too late.
Do you know what your purpose is? I've also felt invisible at times, but recently have started wondering if I shouldn't think of it more as a "stealth mode." Invisibility can be useful at times. 😉
A while since this was posted but I would still like to say "thank you". As a fellow introvert, and someone who has been called by God, I found this very interesting and thought provoking. Some very useful points made, a bit of strength given.
This is me. I know intimately every word you said, even the bit about it being easier to speak in front of a large crowd than in front of a handful. The biggest crowd I’ve spoken from God’s word was around 80 or 90. It was definitely easier than the smaller crowds of 40 or so. And I tend to to stay quiet if I’m with just a handful of people. I also have trouble going up to speak to just one person, but I’m trying to do so every opportunity I get, and it’s getting easier week by week. I’m not sure about God making me introverted though. My introversion, though very useful for certain types of spiritual work, is merely my personal response to external and internal stimuli that I experienced in childhood. I could have chosen to fight against it, recognising that extreme introversion can make life difficult, but I chose not to and ended up as I am. Having said that, I see introversion as a gift that allows me to say and do good things that I couldn’t do if I was any other way. Very encouraging video, thankyou for uploading.
As an introvert I am able to experience the power, presence, and provision of God on a deeper level. I've come to realize that my private experiences with God have enhanced what I am able to achieve and perform in the eyes of the public. Jesus Himself after being surrounded by people withdrew into the mountains to be alone with God His Father. Jesus said in Matthew 6:6 But you, when you pray, go into your room, and when you have shut your door, pray to your Father who is in the secret place; and your Father who sees in secret will reward you openly. Not every aspect of your faith should be done before the eyes of the people, After all we are called to seek His praise and not the praise of our fellow man. To anyone reading this I pray unto you Ephesians 1:17 I keep asking that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the glorious Father, may give you the Spirit of wisdom and revelation, so that you may know Him better. I Love all. Be Blessed!
Agreed! I attend a live service on the internet because I'm way out in the country and that is where I am fed the best word. It is more than an hour away from my place. I cringe when they say "turn to your neighbor and tell them you're happy they are here."🥺😒😲😣I can't look them in the eye and sound sincere. I am nurse and work with tons of pts and staff but church or crowds... nooooo thank you! I can barely grocery shop on my own. I love the Lord with all my heart and by his direction I will do something but not of my own doing.. I need the Holy Spirit to hold my hand! 😂
I’m dating, and as an introvert, I despise small talk. Deep conversations is where I feel most comfortable and it’s how I get connection with others. How am I supposed to not move quickly when I am a straight to the point, deep conversations type of person?
In listening to I realize I am an introvert! I don’t want to shake hands with people and definitely am uncomfortable when people especially men hug me! I love going to church just outside of church want to spend my time with my husband or alone! This gives me hope!
Thank you for the video! Really eye opening, and to be honest I already had a feeling that I was not the only one😝 May god bless you all in your paths and use you for his kingdom , no matter what
Thank you so much for this. I'm an introvert and healing in many ways from trauma. Isolating through the pandemic i heard the Holy Spirit more than ever and starting writing poetry. I use that as a way to give God the glory for all he's done. Also to give orhers hope that whatever we go through God's got us 🙏
I'm an introvert just like you and you described exactly how i an in your own description of yourself. I used to think i had to come out off my "shell" to be a good Christian. I can do it for a small time but its way uncomfortable for me of i do it too long. I've prayed about it. But i think it's just me.
I like being alone and to myself. Always thought their was something wrong with me. Im not unsociable, but I will only go so far with relationships . I dont shut myself off from people and I'm trying to be better for the Lord.
Thank you so much for this, Tim. I am comforted and challenged. I also have RBF (Resting Baptist Face) and am frequently challenged to appear more kindly.
Rob Copeland That's an interesting phrase that I didn't hear before. I keep a Baptist face as I'm not really a Baptist anymore as my beliefs have changed.
Resting Baptist Face is a cute variation. :) George, the typical expression is "resting b**** face, used usually for women whose faces tend to look crabby when expressionless. Mine is somewhat that way and it was annoying to be told (by me mom) that I needed to smile in church. I'm just sitting there thinking!
Well, I agree that our countenances should look pleasant, but this particular trait has nothing to do with happiness. I smile all the time but usually not while sitting in a meeting listening! I look at other people's faces who tend to be the same, and I know there's no problem with them--they're just focusing. Even while I'm typing this, I can tell my face looks very serious but there's no reason to smile at the moment! Anyway, now you know the term. :)
As an introvert, I never want to appear stuck up so I end up talking too much and then spend the rest of the day kicking myself for it. It’s easier to just stay home. Also, the shaky cam is nauseating and the constant background noise is very, very distracting. You don’t need either one.
I'm an introvert but a lot of people can't tell. A lot of people see how outgoing and outspoken I am and they'll swear up and down I'm a people person but I'm really not. I actually enjoy my own company and being in Worship with LORD.... I actually enjoy living inside my head allot. If I was in the crowd with allot people and there was a bunch of small talk going on, I would probably be quiet as a mouse but when it comes to Jesus, the Gospel, and the Kingdom.... I will literally talk of a storm because that's what I'm fully passionate about.
I am a former fundamentalist. There is much that I value and look back on fondly about christian fundamentalism. its prejudice against introversion is no one of them.
Whether I am alone by myself, or with other people (believers or unbelievers alike), I get my power from God the Holy Spirit. I do not allow circumstances nor my feelings get in the way. If we focus too much on what type of person we are, we lose sight of God and depending on Him.
I'm so glad you said this! I heard Elisabeth Elliot say that people who were shy were just selfish. I always thought that opinion was somewhat judgemental.
Wow! I think every introvert should watch this. Represent and describe every introvert deep feeling, yet gives a practical way out how to self-denying. Thanks, sir 👍🏼 From: A blessed person from Indonesia
It makes sense when he talks about bigger crowds being easier than smaller ones. I love going to places like concerts and comedy shows where there are a lot of people and have no issue, but it's because I don't have to deal directly with the people there. But if I have to interact with a small group of people, I have a hard time.
Glory To GOD!!! Thank you Tim Challies for coming out of your comfort zone to help your brother's and sister's in CHRIST! I have learned many things from you, and sometines it is very hard to discern whom to believe.
I agree! 300 people is easier than 5 people. I’m such an introvert I find leaving my house difficult. Isolation has let me hide in my house for months and now I find it daunting to have to leave again.
Interesting discussion. Thanks for sharing I see myself as 50/50 with a leaning more to introverted side. I believe our upbringing can influence us greatly but it's not the be end all. God makes all things possible. With his favour and grace on our lives we can accomplish alot more than we ever thought possible.
So interesting, I was talking to my pastor about this topic this very week!! Our whole church is introverted (small church). So that can make it hard for chat after sermons. I’m about on the cusp of extroversion and do need people sometimes to feel energised. I HATE small talk though it drains me. Deep and meaningful I can go for hours . Interesting
I just discovered your channel a couple of days ago and I've been going through your material. Really enjoying and connecting with your work. As someone who identifies very strongly with introversion, this video helped clarify and even admonish a few issues I have within myself. Thanks so much!
How badly I need prayer! How desperately I need forgiveness! Pray for me Tim, I thank God, the Spirit for you. I continue to disobey this command, I'm a university student and the lost are all around. The fields are full of grain. But I fear ridicule? Or what do I really fear? No, really I'm a coward. I've no friends either due to this cowardice. I've only spoken up once, to a close old friend, not even to my own flatmates, and I confess my sins to no one. Please, spare just a thought for me, and pray for me, that I may have just a piece of the love of Christ truly in my heart, the burden for others is increasing, but I don't know enough, or know people well enough, I certainly have no social skills, that's what I say as I walk home in shame. I know people younger than me have answered this call. I;m so ashamed, I can't even say this to my own mother. Please make more videos about this, about your journey, my pain for knowing who I am in this way pushes me to an ungodly despair. Why do I stand in the way of the Spirit? Thank you for this video, The Lord repay you for your faith.
@@angela6405 Thank you for that tip. I discovered her several years ago and found her work tremendously helpful. At the very least I learned that I wasn't the only one who was this way.
Jerrie, I "M not an introvert & I don't like loud noises, usually. It's OK if u just won an Olympic title or got onto Oxford but otherwise, please don't yell unless necessary
Maybe raise your concern about the loudness level because long-term exposure to loud noise can damage hearing. Plus there are probably other people like you who aren't comfortable speaking up.
Jerrie Hall 😂 I don't know whether you mean loud by people talking or by the audio volumes at your church. If it's the audio volume you should let someone you see running sound or one of your worship directors know because typically they have to battle between too loud and too quiet. Loudness might also depend on where you sit in the sanctuary.
Here because I recently joined a church after being cooped up in my home for years. I became an usher, joined ladies ministry, and a leadership program. I was exhausted but I want to continue. I just need to deal with losing energy.
I read this from a book by a famous Christian author. He says that if you do not commit to certain church activities, church leaders should not grant him/her church membership. But I really dislike my church cell group. We can't talk real. It's all surface talk. Nothing deep. Also, people in the group do not talk to each other outside of the group time. It's so awkward. Sunday school is also hard. First, the teacher always insist on using certain phrase as a correct answer. Then she teach like a lecturer. You don't get much question time. Sometimes, there are just too much that you don't understand and you do not know where to start asking. So I rather watch theology and Bible study lessons online. I learn better on my own too. I can pause and think, write notes and continue. So I do not know how bad that can be.
I study on my own as well and get a lot more out of it. I'm getting older and prefer quiet time on my own. Introverts are often misunderstood but that's not my problem.
Exactly what I'm going through, I'm getting this strong conviction inside that I should go to the shops and tell people that God loves them, it's so hard but I definitely have to do it 😭.
Maybe talk about it with a trusted Christian friend and pray about together for encouragement, wisdom & even accountability, plus for God's work in the people you speak to.
I love having deep conversations, it's the small talk that is agonizingly painful!!
Me too!
Hello there
Yuuuup
me too
100% me too
I'm introverted, I'm shy, but God called me to be out there and speak his word. At time is difficult and I struggle. Please pray for me for boldness!
But we all have to speak up when it’s time to
Amen 🙏🏾 ♥️
*I'm very introvert, but I'm bold for Christ, I share the gospel and warn my friends about hell* . They think hell is imaginary 🤦
It's great to read that. Keep the love for others, Jesus will reward you
Thank you, I often have felt there was something wrong with me. Introversion is not a sin, not reaching out when the Spirit calls you is.
🙏🙏🙏
Ive had so many major meltdowns because of this.. its hard when the world expects you to be an extrovert... to be a minority.. its painful...
Interesting that this can be perfectly understood regarding personality types but not regarding different ethnicities.
Maria Hilton I agree. Most people are horrible.
Some of the extroverted displays of church community, like handshakes with the entire congregation, holding hands with strangers during prayer, etc, are very difficult for an introverted newcomer.
When one is compelled, or feels social pressure, to shake hands, say bless you, etc. it is phony and not sincere, imo.
Hence why i stopped going to church
Research has shown there's little or no data supporting Myers-Briggs. It's a fake system. But it's very effective in dividing the church and creating a victimhood mentality.
Joel Tunnah when I have to shake hands or say hello to the congregation on Sunday I feel terrified but God always eases my spirit, so I can get through what feels like an eternity which actually is a second of my life. Yes, I’m introverted!!
Same I hate it
"The longer we go without obeying, the harder it will be to obey" welp, that was powerful
I've always been introverted. The way I reach people is through helping them. I feel very uncomfortable speaking so I try to let my actions speak for me
Thats right 🌻
Jack Bridges I do the same. 🙂
Same here. Love not with words and speech but with action and in Truth.
Amen 🙏🏾
God bless u, also❤️Hope u feel better now.
Being introverted enriches my relationship with the Holy Spirit so much. Who knows us better? Nobody but the Holy Spirit.
He is my best Friend!! The only One I can talk to about ANYTHING. No judgment or pressure. :)
This! 🙏
literally
I'd like to hear more about how to leverage the gift of introversion to serve God in unique ways, instead of just hearing about how to serve God "in spite" of introversion.
You still want an answer?
@@TK-sr2hz Sure!
Good book: Quiet - the power of introverts in a world that can't stop talking, by Susan Cain.
I believe that the Proverbs actually affirms such a person.

as introverts we are also very sensitive. i am more sensitive to noise and chaos.i am physically and emotionally exhausted much of the time.i think we need to finbd unique ways to contribute alone. you can pray alone. you can write alone. you can bake goodies to give people alone. it's wonderful to be introverted we just need to contribute in our uniqueness.
Yes I don’t like being told to get out of my seat and shake everyone hands. Like just stop.
As soon as the speaker says, 'turn the person next to you and say (insert overused emergent church lingo here)'.....I'm out.
But that's showing love to one another, that's what God has commanded us to do. Love one another like yourself
Shaking hands is not showing love. Going out of your way to help someone is showing love. Giving your life to ministry is showing love.
@@gerrydean7696 I know a sister in church who with a full heart helped her family, but instead of getting some type of appreciation back, her family devices to curse her instead. God bless🙏
Heyyyy I'm introvert too. There's nothing wrong with being an introvert. I love being an introvert. 💙
I understand that I'm a introvert but I don't mind teaching people.

Well, I most certainly needed to hear this. Being an introvert in a foreign country and not speaking the local language is a disaster. But God is faithful, he'll get me through this
I'm an introvert in a foreign country who *does* speak the language. It's no easier.
What country?
I think we somehow tell ourselves that we need lots of friends and people around us. For introverts like us, maybe just a few are better, maybe sometimes even one. Remember also that the Holy Spirit is your one true friend and companion. He is closer than a brother, even if you are an introvert... or even ESPECIALLY because you are an introvert.
@@thepsalms2806 France
Same. I feel so shy and fear to talk to people sometimes in here. I'm also living in a foreign country where I didnt grow up speaking the language here. It's a struggle, because it's a different language. I pray that God will help me through this.
The scripture that calls me out on my introversion: Hebrews 10:24-25
“And let us consider one another in order to provoke love and good works, not neglecting to gather together, as some are in the habit of doing, but encouraging each other, and all the more as you see the day approaching.”
Helpful Creation Don’t forget: the church is not a building, it’s a people. Where two or more are gathered, that is enough. Consider that the Holy Spirit lives within you. You are not merely one any longer. The scripture doesn’t call anyone out on introversion because it’s not concerned with it.
and also, "One another" is not a big group operation... it's just one other!
I love my introversion❤️
My anxiety and shyness is mostly just my problem, and I pray to God to help me with it🙏
Geez, being introvert is so hard!!!

AgentDC76 hey we’re both aspies blessings to u , I volunteer as a A/V tech at church , start real slow and work ur way into friendships
Sorry to hear that!😔 Stay strong!🙏

You took the words right out of my mouth, I meany mind, I mean my heart haha. Bless you.
Being an introvert is hard sometimes.....I'm shy introvert and it's really very difficult
I am definitely an introvert. I've been this way all my life.
Confused introvert here...thanx for speaking to me.
This was helpful to me. I'm an extreme introvert. I can't see me walking up to someone though and introducing myself. Yeah, that won't happen.

I hope I can too. Please pray for me. 🙏❤
P
I'm introverted to the point of getting up to use the bathroom right before 'meet and greet' at church. The shelter in place has been wonderful
Yes and then coming back afterwards.
I thought I was the only one who did this, i don't know how I would cope in life without the bathroom to hide!
Interesting to meet you here buddy. :D
INTJ here - the struggle is real. But praise be to God for his amazing grace. Watching this while on lockdown. God bless!
Do you find that that helps you?
maybe you thought you were because you felt you had to 'perform". I felt pressure but I've always been introvert
Well said 👏🏻
Thank you for your bold obedience.
To anyone reading this I pray unto you Ephesians 1:17
I keep asking that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the glorious Father, may give you the Spirit of wisdom and revelation, so that you may know Him better.
I Love all. Be Blessed!
Thanks Tim, I'm an introvert too.
In listening to I realize I am an introvert! I don’t want to shake hands with people and definitely am uncomfortable when people especially men hug me! I love going to church just outside of church want to spend my time with my husband or alone! This gives me hope!
Tim, thank you so much for this video. I have beat myself up over this issue, and not really understood. Thank you
Thank you for the video! Really eye opening, and to be honest I already had a feeling that I was not the only one😝
May god bless you all in your paths and use you for his kingdom , no matter what
Thank you so much for this.
I'm an introvert and healing in many ways from trauma.
Isolating through the pandemic i heard the Holy Spirit more than ever and starting writing poetry.
I use that as a way to give God the glory for all he's done.
Also to give orhers hope that whatever we go through God's got us 🙏
Thank you so much for what your saying. I've come a long way from where I was.
Rob Copeland
That's an interesting phrase that I didn't hear before.
I'm just sitting there thinking!
carnation_cat Some if us are happy on the inside but not on the outside. My God change our countenance to reflect the Lord Jesus Christ.
hahaha resting baptist face, nice!
As an introvert, I never want to appear stuck up so I end up talking too much and then spend the rest of the day kicking myself for it. It’s easier to just stay home. Also, the shaky cam is nauseating and the constant background noise is very, very distracting. You don’t need either one.
Good words Tim, I needed to hear this, as i am an introvert as well. It is easy to use that as an excuse
Hi Tim, thanks, I’m a introvert and have found these questions encouraging. Blessings Helen
Yes. Quiet is very good!!
I'm an extrovert and do reach out to others....but sometimes I am done with "peopling". I need my alone time.
Pearly Everlasting lol can relate
I needed this. Thank you! ❤️.
Thank you for this, this video encourages me, I am an Christian introvert who is spiritually struggling.
So glad I came across this video....this is sooo me. God bless
I'm so glad you said this! I heard Elisabeth Elliot say that people who were shy were just selfish. I always thought that opinion was somewhat judgemental.
Thank you so much, this is encouraging, it is both a rebuke and an encouragement.
Wow! I think every introvert should watch this. Represent and describe every introvert deep feeling, yet gives a practical way out how to self-denying. Thanks, sir 👍🏼
From: A blessed person from Indonesia
I'm significantly introverted as well. Good video. Plus highly sensitive to noise. My church is getting very loud, very loud : - (
Please read the Highly Sensitive Person by Dr Elaine Aron if you haven't already! You'll feel so much better 👍
I recently found this channel it is truly a blessing.
I'll be setting goals this Sunday. Thank you!
