Thanks , great comparison . Firstly every watch manufacturer has the occasional QC issue . As long as they respond & fix the issue in a timely manner then thats ok . I have a few Steeldives & all have proved to be of great quality for the price & I've not hsd any issues wearing them daily . You could basically buy 3 different Steeldives for the price of 1 San Martin & have a choice every day . As for the packaging I would rather pay less for a more simple offering when after the first few minutes of opening the boxes go into the cupboard . Cheers
I received my first San Martin Last week, before I had only bought Pagani Design & Addiesdive watches, you can see where the extra money went because the fit & finish on the San Martin gives you an insane amount of Bang for your Buck. I just wish they had more original Designs, because I'm not a Fan of Homages, especially the recognisable Homages.
For the money Steeldive is a no brainer i have two 1953s... kermit n Black OG ...the kermit is flawless but the Black OG bezel insert was slightly off but rectified it.. But also have two San Martins ones flawless and the other also had an bezel alignment issue that i rectified soon as got it...Its a hard one with this comparison as the 53 probably is Steeldives best piece theyve produced..San Martin do have issues from time to time but not as much...Price difference is significant between the two and for me the Steeldive is way better value hands down...All said and done theyre all homages afterall...
Thanks for the great comparison. I’m not a fan of Subs nor Sub Homages. But I’m glad both exists. I’m always willing to pay a little more for better finishing and QC but not everyone can or is willing. Thanks!
I also have both in my collection for about a year and I do wear both often. Both watches with the NH35 movement keep great time. I bought both on Aliexpress with coupon sales. Steeldive 1953 you can get as low as $50.00 and SM as low as $135. Not being cheap about anything but I gravitate to my Steeldive with green bezel mostly. It's just so much nicer to look at and it's a eye catcher as well, others seem to ask me about it. Keep up the great reviews.
Great video. One small thing that would be nice - when putting up specs, left and right… leave both sides up to see the words (numbers) at the same time on the screen.
A little more round on the caseback is much more comfortable, than a flat caseback. A little more thickness on the back, keeps your wrist safe from the crown digging in.
Just the lume itself, at the lower price, it’s a no brainer that the one to get is Steeldive. Who cares about the thickness. If anyone is worried about thickness, go buy a cheap quartz homage from another brand. I have two of these Steeldive Subs, a Watchdives Milisub with a meca-quartz, and a white dial Addiesdive sub. They are all great! The Addiesdive auto appears to be thinner than the Steeldive, so that’s an option for the thin ones
I love my Steeldive 1953, I also bought a Addiesdive a week later., I really like a quartz for daily wear, and the Miyota 2115 is accurate and perfect for a daily beater. The issue for me is the QC just wasn’t there with the Addiesdives, misaligned cyclops and ceramic bezel. The Duro is better, especially on a Long Island Stainless bracelet. I really like the watch but it’ll need the mineral crystal popped out and realigned. Steeldive 1953 is incredible, BGW9, and BGW9 and C3 on the Addiesdives. If I could do it over again, I would have gotten a Watchdives due to the same specs, manufacturer, and better logo, text on dial.
Thank you for the valuable information. I had this particular steeldive but i gifted it to someone and now i have a chronograph watch for a year. I've been missing the dive watch style tho and I've been thinking should i get the steeldive again or get a San Martin. Thank you for the quality content
@@ShortBetterprobably the San Martin. It looks like it has a better bracelet overall and the finish is better. However I've heard some people complain the date on the San Martin is not perfectly centered in the date window. Have you noticed anything like that on your watch?
I have 2 Steeldive subs, and I'm happy with them, although the AR coating on the cyclops is non-existant.. I'm thinking about going next level and getting a Steinhart. Thoughts? Anyone have experience with them? Thanks!
Hmm.. I'm also wondering if it's better. After reviewing all these watches, I see that more expensive "premium" watches are overpriced. Interesting if Steinhart is any different
I had 3 Steinharts! Honesty I think that Steeldive is a better watch. Only Sub that's really good from Steinhart is OVM but you can only get it in 42 mm and that's way to big. They have 39 on gnomon watches but proportions are off and so is the price. So, don't waste your money... All of those Chinese brands are insanely good... I had them all and I have some Swiss luxury watches and it's mind blowing but they are actually comparable
I haven't had the chance to test the San Martin sub, but from what I gather from using SD1953 for 5 months are 1. The QC of SD is non existent. Mine arrived with a faulty NH35 where the rotor doesn't rotate with hand movement (I even opened the caseback to see what's going on). The cyclops was also set crooked. 2. That 14mm thickness is huge, you will definitely notice it, especially if you are used to wearing different watches. Also, due to the thickness of the watch, the height of the "rehaut" is super long, which is very noticeable. Because of this long rehaut, the cyclops doesn't work as intended and it always over magnify date window.
I agree, QC can be better. Even when I was making this video, I noticed that my SD doesn't work, seems to be some defects in the movement 😅 Had to get another watch for the video..
@halua1969 thanks for info about ‘rehaut’ I was wondering why the date magnification was so large. I am think of replacing the cyclops, trail and error to see if it can get down to normal levels. No issues with the NH35, only the comical date magnification …
Is there a 40mm or 41mm Watch with a Bip, the Steeldive Lume, The San Martin Bracelet and thickness?^^ Great Great Review! Is the Steeldive Caseback Logo as Scrathy and Hairkilling as on the Addisdive? That Caseback should have been Soft!
Yep prob right re the 99% of people staying under 50m for SCUBA. Personally 34m is the deepest I've ever dived and that in itself can be a bit of a mission with deco etc. let alone planning for repetitive dives (from shorter depths). So I have a some SteelDive watches, the Capt. Willard and the Honey Comb Diver 300m, both great specs and super accurate after one years of wearing, you might like those reviews on my channel too.
I really like SM as a brand. I do own their BB Pepsi GMT homage and wanted to add another SM to my collection when I was looking for a modern Sub homage. However: I ended up going with the Cronos Sub. 1. It comes with a 4Hz movement (PT5000 or SW200). Only the SM SN0019 has a 4Hz movement and that one is a 41mm with a 21mm bracelet that doesn't have enough taper. Too large for both my taste and my 17cm wrist. Plus the 0019 has very wide end-links and an effective wing-span of over 53mm - the Cronos has 2.5mm less. 2. It doesn't have that weird, "funnel-looking" rehaut that both the SM and SD have. When you look at the Cronos dead on, you don't see the rehaut like you do on those other two (or on the SN 0019, for that matter). 3. It has an excellent, on-the-fly adjustable clasp. It's an almost exact copy of the Rolex-clasp, yes.. but it works great on my example and is very well engineered. 4. It can't compete with the SD in price, but it's only a little more expensive than SM's 0017, which, again, only has a Seiko NH35. WRT dimensions, materials and finishing, I'd go as far as saying that Cronos is up there with San Martin. I don't have a super-direct comparison, but next to my SM, the Cronos doesn't look like a cheaper or less well-finished product at all. I would recommend the Cronos if you can get it for under $/EUR 200 in a sale, like I did (paid 170, including import duties). There are only two things I'm not super happy about. One is the daylight color of the lume which isn't perfectly matched between the indices and the hands (indices are a bit off-white, while the hands are "hard" white). This seems to be some sort of QC-issue because I've seen lots of Cronos Subs on YT that didn't have that problem - and some that did and where it looked more pronounced than on mine. The other is the bezel action which is a bit too soft and vague for my taste.
I've had 1 of Cronos watches in bronze. The quality is awesome, but the price is a bit high.. Compared to what you get for the same money from Steeldive
