What a gifted actor, what a wonderful human being. I met him once. He was as humble and unassuming as I had heard. Gracious, funny, and very kind. Much missed.
I love Jonathan Frid.. I grew up watching Dark Shadows.. My all time favorite show... I have attended many of the DS fan fests both in LA and Tarrytown... All the cast members are dear to me.
I discovered DS in 1968 and went to the theater with my friends to see HODS at least a dozen times in 1970. Doesn't seen possible that half a century has passed. Rest easy, Mr Frid.
I have again become a fan of this incredible soap after many years. I regret never having met Jonathan Frid. But I feel close to him as I have been reading etc. much about him. The questions I would have loved to have asked him. This is a great video and I hope to be able to get the full hour one if is still available.
thanks for sharing this, it's really cool to watch this, my wife and I met him in 89 and he was such a nice gentleman and I got a picture took with him.
These are just a few brief clips. Entire video is just over an hour. DVDs will be made available for sale in the near future. Part of the sale of the DVDs will go to Jonathan's family's choice of charity and to the preservation of Seaview Terrace.
This is a very interesting tour of Seaview terrace! Mr. Frid was very nice, and even a little funny while talking about the place. I miss him! I'm sorry he died in 2012! Thanks so much for sharing this video!! ~Janet in Canada
Wish I could have met Mr. Frid. I always have and always *will* love Dark Shadows!!! Have the complete collection, plus, "The Beginning," and, have watched them all at LEAST five times, over!!! Love the cast and the characters they all played!!! Only wish the modern movie with Johnny Depp wasn't such a farce and was truer to the original character's roles!!! But, I guess that movie just goes to show how NO PERSON could *ever* play the roles like the original people did in Dark Shadows!!! Wish also that the character of Victoria Winters was never "written out" of the original series, and, she could have come *back* to the program after she'd had her baby in real life. LOVE DARK SHADOWS AND ITS CHARACTERS/ACTORS/ACTRESSES, AND, ALWAYS WILL!!!!!!!! BTW - Great catch on the Wolf ,Cane, JF!!!
Curtrice Ennis thanks for your comments! He was a wonderful man who loved his fans. Sorry you didn't get to meet him. If you ever want to know more about him you can read my article in Scary Monsters magazine #98. Guy
btw Alexandra Moltke was offered to return to her role as Vicky when she was ready, unfortunately she refused (she said she would only resume the role if she was allowed to be possessed by a demon and be evil for once, which they said no to), and thus the role was written out of the show.
@@valerieaugustine8083 She didn't want to be a bad person. She just wanted something more interesting to play, as an actress. Being the "good girl" got very tedious; she envied those like Lara Parker who got to play a variety of parts.

Around the year 2000, there was a person in Yahoo Chat Rooms that had the name Barnabas Collins. He claimed to be Jonathan Frid. He spoke like a person with an eloquent vocabulary. He knew everything about the show and the current whereabouts of his fellow castmates. Of course, anybody could have access to such information. I chatted a number of times with him. I often wonder if it was actually Mr. Frid.
Nope, sorry, it was not Frid. Jonathan was not technically inclined and was not on social media. He had no interest in message boards, nor chat rooms, nor Faecbook. He had someone running his website and that is what he concentrated on was his readings. However, I know a number of DS fans that are overly obsessed with the show and with Frid, some of them are on Facebook embarrassing themselves. Sad to say but there are some Barnabas fans who claim to be his son or wife or related when they are not. There are two guys who claim to be him and Barnabas. They dress up and role play and try to convince naive fans on facebook that they are related to Frid when they are not. One guy has a coffin in his apartment SMH One guy want to change his name to that of Frid's. Two guys changed their names to that of Barnabas. One lady wants to change her last name to Frid and then tell everyone that she is Frid's wife. It's very sad but there are overly passionate die hard fans in every fandom who loose touch with reality and long to be someone that they are not.
@@thejupiter2574 I don't believe Jonathan had any children. He never married from what I read. If there was a child seems he would have acknowledged this. He said he didn't want to marry because the life of an actor was not always secure. I think he was afraid he could not support a family.
@@valerieaugustine8083 He was gay. So were many of the other actors on the show (Louis Edmonds, Joel Crothers, and others). Back in the late 60s/early 70s, they had to be closeted for the public, but people connected with the show knew. This is now pretty common knowledge, I'm not breaking any news.
@@valerieaugustine8083 What you quoted was one of three 'stock answers' excuses that was given to the media and in interviews to explain why he never married. Personally, I am glad that Mr. Frid did not compromise, give-in to what society and religion expected of people back then by marrying 'straight' for appearances and for the sake of his image and career. Back then many Gay people were in what is called "Lavender Marriages." Where the Gay man or woman would marry a straight person either for appearances or it they wanted to create a family and have kids , like actors Robert Reed and Joel Grey did and so many other gay people who married for the sake of their image and career or to have a family.

The Jupiter 2 Let us not forget "Don" on lost in space with his basket packed into that elastic space pants ensemble when "Judy" never had a chance with that. "John Robinson" usually sported his raygun on the left. Thanks for your great response to my original comment.

This is wonderful, the great Jonathan Frid at the highest holy site for a Dark Shadows fan!
Jonathan Frid was down to earth, there's no doubt of that.
An interviewer called him a no frills kind of guy.
I love this video clip of Jonathan Frid at Seaview Terrace in Newport, Rhode Island in 1985 . I was there to take photos and give info on the mansion!
What great memories you have. Hope you have pictures also. I would have loved to have met him.

The mansion was once a residence hall at Salve Regina University, and I know someone who lived in it when she was a student!

What an absolutely BEAUTIFUL tour! And what a great tour guide! I would love to have had the opportunity to meet Jonathan Frid.
I heartily second that! :-)
