I snagged a new Tiagra 10s groupset off eBay for a flat bar build and I have to say it's a really high quality component set. It has better components than my 2011 Shimano 105 groupset had and I dare say it shifts better than my Campagnolo Chorus 11s...all for 420 bucks... unbeatable.

Bought this with 50/34 crank and 12/28 cassette, never regretted it.

The long lever is for easier shifts equalizing pressure on both shifters.

Thank for the review man, one of the Best in a good amount of time. I still find it Hard to decide wheather i should get the tiagra or the 105.. I live among Mountains in Colombia and i love climbing BUT i also love going full gas and racing Crits. And i Wonder if a tiagra with semicompact 52/36 and a 11/34 cassete is good for both activities or should i get the 11/28 cassete for racing?. Or should i go for the 105 semicompact and 11/32 probably? Lool its too Hard to decide and im on a budget i have to say i can barely afford the 105 BUT i think it's amazing and i would appreciate opinions and recommendations. Thanks!

Jamesthebikeguy thanks a lot. I plan on getting the front + rear derailleur, cassette, chain, and STI levers for a All-City Space Horse frameset I have lying around. I’m able to fit up to a 34 right?

yes, it is. you need to pull upper part of a hood and then you have access to regulation screw. i adjusted mine, great feature.

Is Tiagra STI compatible with 10 speed Deore RD?

My Tiagra 4700 long cage RD handles a 36t cassette no problem. It's the 'special feature' of the new 4700 groupset. Also you can use the Tiagra 4700 RD will any Shimano 11 speed shifters/cassettes since the cable pull ratio is the same. So if you want to run a 36t cassette w/o a road link on your 105-Dura Ace bikes, just put on a 4700 Tiagra RD. Pretty cool!

The brakes are the weak point on Tiagra. I have a bike fitted with Tiagra; but I put 105 brakes on it.

Yup the 105 brakes are quite a step up.

Why bro? The quality? Do they wear out quick or is their perfomance not good? By breaks you mean the gums or the whole break system? Thank you

105 brakes symmetrical. The dual pivot system brings the brake pads into the rim at the same angle. Tiagra is asymmetrical. The affects braking. 105 also has a direct mount option; Tiagra does not. Direct mount is just better.
I am sure Tiagra brakes are fine, however. And, riding in the rain yesterday, the 105 brakes were darn-near useless, as would be any rim brake.
