  • Join myself and my family for a week on Shuna Island, Scotland's west coast. An action packed week, filled with big fish, crabs, seals and porpoise as well as a wide range of outdoor activities by the sea.
    As always thanks to everyone involved in the filming process and many thanks to Kathryn and Rob for hosting us. See info on the island at www.islandofsh...
    Shout out to Hamish and Storme for their impeccable digital design on the thumbnail.

    Fantastic vlog young man, both entertaining and educational. I just wish more young folk had your enthusiastic approach for the outdoors. My only wee bit of advice would be that when filleting fish you should start at the gill plate and run the knife back towards the tail. Using a proper filleting knife this method makes a tidier job of things. You were very lucky to catch a few dry days as it has been pissing rain for weeks here in Oban. All the best for your future adventures, hope to see them on film. New sub.

    Enjoyed that mate! Looks a great holiday! With Pollock or even cod etc they are best left in the fridge a day or two to firm up. You can also salt them for a couple of hours then wash it off. Both methods firm up the meat and make it taste better

      Never tried doing that before. I have seen the Spearo Daniel Mann do it in one of his videos before, but looked a lot of effort in comparison to what I am used to doing 😋

      @@RooCant honestly it's so easy. You fillet them as normal then just add salt and put in the fridge for a few hours. Doesn't need to be long and doesn't need to be a silly amount of salt either. When you do it you won't eat fish without it again

    Love your approach to the videos! Where did you gain your knowledge from? I've been in Edinburgh for a few years now and I'd love to get into the catch and cooking!

    • @RooCant
      @RooCant  5 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      The vast majority of my knowledge comes from TH-cam, on any topic.
      When I’m not fishing myself I am often watching other people. My favourites right now are “The Fish Locker” and Joe PK.

      Yes, all info is on their web page www.islandofshuna.co.uk.
      As you can probably tell from the video I would highly recommend staying, it has become a regular family holiday for us.
