My Girlfriend’s First Scottish Bothy Experience!
This time Storme and I went to Peanmeanach Bothy on the Ardnish Peninsula. Although the trip came with a mixed bag of weather it was definitely an unforgettable trip as Storme's first ever time staying in a bothy!
This video gives you a good idea of what to expect from a summer stay at the bothy as well as diving deep into the history of the bothy and the surrounding area.
If you want to book a stay at the bothy:

Stay tuned for part 2 of the trip which should be out in the coming weeks!

In this video, join @linleehao and myself as we ascend Beinn Bhuidhe in the lower West Highlands of Scotland. Although this hike didn't amount to any picturesque views of the scenery from the summit, it was still a very enjoyable experience. www.walkhighlands.co.uk/argyll/beinn-bhuidhe.shtml
Class! That's all, just class. Fill your boots young people 🙂👍
GOOD video
The bothy looks so different since it has been locked! I have spent many a weekend thee and the beach out the front is great for foraging for mussels and razor clams!
I definitely missed a lot of foraging opportunities that I am keen to reconcile on next time I visit :) Must be interesting to see how the bothy has changed though
@@RooCant, it IS interesting but... It also feels like a bit of it's soul has been taken away. Don't get me wrong, it's the perfect way to introduce somebody to bothying but, I'd much rather be sleeping in the ground floor 'kitchen' when it's blowin a hoolie! 🤣
great vid lads but what was the animal climbing up the tree behind you at 12:48??
That would be myself 😂 I got bored waiting for fin to come back!
It looked a fabulous place even if the fishing wasn't up to much, weren't there any trout in that stream? You really shouldn't have pitched your tent amongst those trees. Appart from lighting a branch could have fallen off onto it. By the way rocking are a delicious eating fish. Great that you actually told us where it was, most TH-camrs keep things like that a deadly secret.
There were small trout in the stream, but we couldn’t tempt them even with our smallest lures. No lightning forecast fortunately and we got away with no tree-induced injuries but I’ll keep that in mind for next time 👍. I have heard tickling are an eating fish but have never looked much into it- maybe I will!
Great place to explore, nice beach which is normally empty apart from a few days a year. Bring a boat next time 😉
Yeah. Kayaking around the area is definitely on the to do list. It’s just unbelievably rugged snd atmospheric
Great stuff guys...well made and interesting...loved the info about the mill...and how you show scotlands beauty for what it is...best wishes from the midlands 👍
I’m glad you enjoyed and I thank you for watching!
fantastic. young memories like that will sustain you for life. keep them fresh and add more to them. I am 84 and still young.
Still young indeed! Thank you
Beautiful surroundings awesome experience. Do you fish for the famous giant skates.
I haven’t tried it yet, they are such beautiful creatures - I would maybe like to try sometime
I think alot are caught around where you are filming. Good luck on you adventures
@@mrcrawford5181 definitely around Oban and loch Etive (further north) Thank you 👍

Great watch mate, I did a similar thing in June and loved every second of it, brought back good memories. Keep it up
Great video lads took me right back to my youth and great memories made 👍

YES! The best yet Ruriosities.Good camerawork, continuity and finishing touches. I KNOW that Bothy and place well
Thank you - I know you do! It's definitely a sea kayakers dream bothy.
Top work lads
Well done lads. Thanks for sharing
Just found your channel yesterday and love the Videos! I live on Skye and there’s a few great bothies to stay in and excellent fishing spots 🔥
My next video will include is being up in Skye but the fishing wasn’t great. It wasn’t a trip set for fishing it was more just as the opportunities arose, next time I am keen to do some more planned trips!
@@RooCantSorry to hear, just means you’ll need to come back and try again!
@@fraserwazere4074 definitely on the to do list that’s a promise!
Enjoyed this mate! Couple questions- Where did you have to park to start the hike? & what would you suggest leaving out of your pack if you were to do it again? Also, Muile by Tide Lines would be my suggestion for a song for future reference 😁
Just parked at the closest Lay-by to the path(Just north of loch Dubh, the bothy is signposted at the start of the track. In terms of kit we didn’t end up needing when we got to the bothy: - sleeping mat -Cutlery and Crockery -The Bothy had a gas cooker but no gas with it, although we couldn’t get it to work so might be safer to just bring your own. -One of the heaviest we brought was fresh water, the bothy had some as well as purification tablets which I would recommend you bring instead (as there is a freshwater stream nearby)
@@RooCantwhat about extra wood or was there plenty to gather or in the bothy?
I brought a bag-full, on top of this we were given some by some kind campers. There was spare wood on the distant shores but would have taken quite some effort to lug back to the bothy (not impossible). We also walked through a small woodland just before reaching the bothy so there is hopefully some deadwood lying in there that hasn’t been scavenged by others yet. However, we resorted to what we had because of the damp conditions.
Excellent little film. Brought back many great memories of doing similar stuff 40 years ago. I’ve taught my kids lots of outdoor skills and hopefully they’ll pass it on to their kids 👍👍
Great video guys. Where did you park and did you need permission
I have been to this location twice now and there is parking space at the end of the road. We didn’t seek permission from the landowner but I have bumped into the gamekeeper and he had no objections.
Loved the Hirta by Beluga Lagoon music at the end.
Glad you enjoyed it. I received some good recommendations, feel free to add any more!
@@RooCantGerry Cinnamon has some good tunes. Beluga Lagoon’s back catalogue obviously. Can’t beat the occasional Peat and Diesel tune
Nice to know more about Penmeanach. The story of its depopulation is repeated across the Scottish Highlands…. Very atmospheric
Awesome video, watch until the end
Unbelievable video, I watched full video. Yes watch the full video because very good
I am so glad you enjoyed it so much!
Enjoyed that mate! Looks a great holiday! With Pollock or even cod etc they are best left in the fridge a day or two to firm up. You can also salt them for a couple of hours then wash it off. Both methods firm up the meat and make it taste better
Never tried doing that before. I have seen the Spearo Daniel Mann do it in one of his videos before, but looked a lot of effort in comparison to what I am used to doing 😋
@@RooCant honestly it's so easy. You fillet them as normal then just add salt and put in the fridge for a few hours. Doesn't need to be long and doesn't need to be a silly amount of salt either. When you do it you won't eat fish without it again
@@discovering_scotland I’ll give it a try 👍
good watch boys -
Love your approach to the videos! Where did you gain your knowledge from? I've been in Edinburgh for a few years now and I'd love to get into the catch and cooking!
The vast majority of my knowledge comes from TH-cam, on any topic. When I’m not fishing myself I am often watching other people. My favourites right now are “The Fish Locker” and Joe PK.
Looked superb. Can anyone book this to stay?
Yes, all info is on their web page www.islandofshuna.co.uk. As you can probably tell from the video I would highly recommend staying, it has become a regular family holiday for us.
Fantastic vlog young man, both entertaining and educational. I just wish more young folk had your enthusiastic approach for the outdoors. My only wee bit of advice would be that when filleting fish you should start at the gill plate and run the knife back towards the tail. Using a proper filleting knife this method makes a tidier job of things. You were very lucky to catch a few dry days as it has been pissing rain for weeks here in Oban. All the best for your future adventures, hope to see them on film. New sub.
Thank you for the tips on filleting, I will give it a try next time.👍
Awesome Ru . Quality!!!
Oh good, very good.I need to get out more!❤
Really enjoyed this. I am a fan of the crab footage, particularly their waves.
That was one of my favourite ones to film too! Glad you enjoyed it
Great video Roo. Love the info on species 🙌
Which was your favourite?
Edible brown crab….everyone should know their edibles 🙌
Very educational, FANTASTIC video 👍👍👍👍👍!!!!!!!!
That all the praise you got?
great video man! 🎣
Too long since we fished together 😁
Amazing. Were those just lures you used for the pollock?
Yes, mostly Metals and Soft plastics
Everyone reading this should definitely like this video
Definetely
SUPER HANDY
Algo ❤️
Well Done boys👏
Utterly brilliant fellas, the wee explains the detail, brilliant watch
What an aweesum adventure, keep doing what you do.
Thanks for the support 👍
Great stuff, well done 👏
Thank you! 👍
Great video. Very informative.
You have a very unusual and inefficient casting technique
Sounds like you are challenging me to a cast-off? 🤨
@@RooCant 😂😂 not at all but would happily get involved
The back cast isn't unusual it was a common sight on beaches not that long ago it's simply pendulum/off the ground styles have grown in popularity due to magazines and internet
@@AndyJohnJones83 yeah I know, I use the back cast, this is still a very poor example of it
@@AndyJohnJones83 and it works a dream with big rods 🔥
Great piece of work chaps. Thank you for sharing ! 😊👍
Thanks for the encouragement and I appreciate the Sub!
Well done lads, great watch
