    This is exactly why I have a strict "pay in full" rule with tools. Payments are the biggest trap, not just for tools, with everything!

    • @poky8390
      @poky8390 2 ปีที่แล้ว +11

      Payments are only a trap when you don’t set a limit. When you let the dealer sell you beyond your means. My snap on dealers have all been nice guys fortunately and actually helped me stay out of trouble over the years and I grew into setting limits on shit and when I get to that limit I don’t buy anymore. Difference for me is I do body work and I only need so many tools. A lot of the stuff I buy now is just for fucking around on the side.

    Sad to see but repo's are just a part of doing business. In these times I expect to see many more in the next few months. I retired in 2017 and with 40 plus years turning wrenches either as a vehicle mechanic 11 years and 30 some years as a aviation mechanic I saw lots of guys get their Snap-on, Matco, etc tools and boxes repoed. After I witnessed the first repo all those years ago I knew I made the right choice and that was being a cash and carry mechanic. If I did not have the money I did not buy the tool. The one tool I got that was on a 2 payment schedule was a O2 sensor socket as I only had half of what I needed to buy it. I paid what I could on a Tuesday and on Friday I called the Matco dealer and told him if he could stop by I had the money. He was driving from one shop to the next and stopped in and I paid him off. I also bought a set of wrenches at the same time 15 minutes before the shop I was working at closed for the night.

    I’m a real big fan of the M12 soldering iron. A buddy of mine got an old trailer from an estate sale and I was able to completely rewire the whole thing, harness, lights, and brakes with one of the 4 amp hour batteries. They’re a really good deal for how cheap they are. They heat up really quickly, the light of the front works pretty well, and the battery lasts way longer than I would have expected.

    The only snap on tools that I am on are ones that I found along the road while bicycling to work because I learned a long time ago in a long time ago that craftsman tools are pretty damn good at least they used to be I’m still using my first set that I bought when I was 16 years old; 1992, to this day. I have a smattering of Mac, Marco, A full set of S&K chrome plated combination wrenches then the rest of my tools are all specialty tools made by motion pro Ducati Yamaha or whatever manufacture I had a buy a special tool for and with my rather unimpressive toolbox on I work on Ducati‘s Moto Guzy Aprilia Yamaha Suzuki Kawasaki i’ll work on your Jetske your snowmobile or your Honda ruckus doesn’t matter what it is if it runs on gasoline chances are I can fix it and if it burns oil and leaves a trail of blue smoke behind you I can not only fix it but I can make it go faster and do so reliably.
    I’ve spent 19 years as a powersports tech and in this years I’ve seen the SnapOn driver repo countless number of mechanics tools, and every week they tell me they can get me at least 3 grand credit and every week I decline the offer. Holding up my 25 year old craftsman pro 3/8 driver and tell them I’m good it’s still working just fine.
    Don’t get me wrong if the snap on driver wanted to like make it rain on me and give me some tools i’d be happy to except them. I do recall one specific time I bought something off of the truck and that is the day that this loudmouth kid I worked with got a bunch of his tools repossessed I went ahead and bought A couple speciality drivers and a torque wrench just so I could tell that arrogant prick that he can borrow them but don’t make a habit of it.
    As I said in the beginning most of my snap on tools I found alongside the road whilst bicycling to work, and I must admit when one of those screwdrivers needs to be replaced I enjoy going out to the snap on truck holding up the screwdriver that I found saying I need another one knowing full well that he knows I’ll take their free replacements but no that’s OK I’m not gonna buy the matching set, I’m gonna hold out till I find them alongside the road.

      I look at the Snap On boxes, and yeah, they’re bloody nice boxes, but jeez, the prices of them ! £26’000 for a bottom box? That’s mental !
      I think I’ll stick with my second hand, beat up Sealey, Clarke and Halfords boxes. Some of my tools are even in old lockable filing cabinets that only cost me £10.
      At the end of the day it’s a lockable metal box that you keep your tools in. So long as it’s secure and we’ll organised, does it really matter if it cost £260 or £26’000?

    The Milwaukee is good for short jobs.... if you leave them contentiously on for like 5 10 minutes it melts the plastic collar and neck that secures the tip. warranty took forever but they replaced it.

    hey soldering guys, I am a big fan of the Milwaukee brand and a m12 set owner. ii have not tried the Milwaukee brand but i have a ts100 soldering iron and it is wonderful i use a dewalt 20v pack as a power supply and it heats up super fast and stays hot.. also idles after a few mins and heats back up after you pick it up. i would buy the Milwaukee to try now but i already got the ts100 it is a great iron.

    For less than the price of a Snap-On box, I can buy a clean used diesel 4 wheel drive utility body truck. I haven't been on a tool truck since the early 1980's after I couldn't get anyone to warranty my stuff after moving to a new shop.

    My son got sucked into buying tool from Snap On after graduating MCI. Gave him $5000.00 credit for buying tools. Of course this credit required him making monthly payments. $5000.00 doesn'th go very far with Snap On. Not many job openings available as promised just jobs at changing oil makes it hard to make monthly tool payments plus be able to pay rent, utilities and food. I wonder how many Snap On tools are repo'd after students are sucked into buying them? Even after repo they still require payment. Yes, students are legal adults but it's hard to avoid those shiny tools dangling in front of you.

    The Milwaukee iron is decent if you aren’t soldering a ton every day. I do a few hundred remote starts every winter and you chew through batteries like nobody’s business. Aussie Iron is the best out there. Hot enough to melt solder in 3-4 seconds and battery lasts me a week during my remote start season.
