It takes a true fan of the channel to see how much stuff you have. Then hear about how much room you don’t have and need to start getting rid of stuff and then. And then decide to donate more stuff to the basement. Gotta love It

The southern 1401 was the only southern engine to be painted green I believe

I could be wrong but I think that southern steam engine is made by mehano
I have an engine that looks very similar to that just painted different
With that said though why the details are very basic make a little bit of noise when running. They are very reliable and simple engines
I would suggest though loctite the screw for the drawbar and also the attachment nuts for the tender trucks

      @CR7659 ปีที่แล้ว

Yes, that engine was introduced around 1970, it's been sold branded as Life-Like, AHM, Model Power, IHC, and Mehano - all made by Mehano in Yugoslavia. The same shell and tender were used for a 2-8-2 that was also sold as a Tyco engine in a stripped down version. Some of these things have more lives than a cat.
The newer examples have improved drive and details.

    #1 - Bachmann Dewitt Clinton
    #2 - Bachmann John Bull
#4 Mehano-made USRA Light Pacific in Southern green colors. Missing bell. Molded on detail suggests an AHM-sold version
    #5 3:45 chassis for a Model Power F9 circa mid-80s
#6 this is the engine that chassis fits
4:40 #7 Bachmann Spectrum GP30. those date to about 1990-ish. Known for issues with the gears
5:00 #8 Proto 2000 BL-2 almost certainly has cracked axle gears
    8:07 Life-Like gondola
    8:15 Tyco chrome tank car
8:22 AHM or Model Power caboose
    8:26 Tyco caboose
8:30 Life-Like caboose. All of these represent steel cabooses
9:00 AHM or Model Power tank (AHM imported first, Model Power later)
    9:06 Life-Like box car
9:13 Mehano-made box car sold under various branding
9:21 Mehano-made composite gondola, most commonly sold as AHM
9:27 the Freight Station kit was also sold under various branding over the years (I see the box at 13:56 IDs this as AHM, but Life-Like, Model Power, and Heljean themselves offered it at various points)
    11:15 Mehano-made "Alco 1000" switcher
11:24 Plymouth Industrial Diesel, looks like the version sold by AHM
11:30 Mehano-made SD40-2 locomotive, probably sold as AHM
    11:40 Life-Like F40PH
    11:55 steel rails
orange pipes probably go on flatbed truck
14:44 bagged kit looks like the grocery and repair shop from the first empty structure box
16:00 not sure that's in the correct box, looks like a Bachmann or Model Power engine
17:06 Model Power signal bridge kit
17:50 Mehano clone of the Tyco caboose.
18:55 Denver & Rio Grande Western box car
Calcium Carbide car is in the right box. It's supposed to carry individual containers.
19:55 those are both pickle cars, a closed side and an open side
Seeing the Model Power Southern coaches makes me think the Pacific may have been part of a set with them. Those engines usually run very well as long as the wheels are clean, the pickup is only the six drive wheels.
A lot of these trains were made overseas by other companies and sold here at different times with different brand names. There also was a lot of cloning of products over the years, one company would essentially copy things made by someone else, sometimes with slight changes, sometimes they're nearly identical. For instance the Model Power coaches copy Model Die Casting Harriman cars, but they add interiors to them. Lionel, of all people, currently owns the tooling to make the Model Power version.

Love to see the Ho layout get expanded

  • @chriscummings4206
    @chriscummings4206 ปีที่แล้ว

Some of my favorite train layouts are from the 1970s-1990s! When the structures and vehicles weren't the most detailed but that allowed for more creativity with the details that made them work, weathering and surrounding details. I like the train layouts of today but too much realism in my opinion takes away from the fun of making it your own vision of the world and that is where the magic is--those who paint their own backdrops and build upon their childhood memories of locations and the railroad that influenced them. Santa Fe trains rolling through the Midwest are fine by me.

those first two engines are from the same decade
3:50 nice find! That company did make a bunch of trains for other companies
7:40 I can't tell if that's 1/64 scale or 1/87 scale. Bets way to tell is to put an HO scale figure (the things at 16:55) next to it
8:33 funny enough, I got one of those from my dad's co-worker as part of his 'mystery collection' for Christmas.
