Pete, I would like to thank you for your work. I teach middle school choir. Your videos helped me learn how to use Garage Band on the iPad so that my students could make recordings of their voice lined up with a scratch track. I have even used excerpts of your videos directly with my students. Your videos have made it possible for my students to produce high quality music even when they are isolated in their homes. The recordings have made my life, the lives of my students, and their parents a little bit beautiful in the midst of this pandemic. Thank you for your work.
Hey Seth. Thanks so much for reaching out my friend. I never tire of hearing stories like this. We may have some additional challenges right now but it’s teachers like you that find ways to keep engaging that deserve so much credit. Cheers, Pete.
Great idea Pete. The inability to upload from iPad was frustrating until watched one of your videos, which led me to borrowing the Mrs’s MacBook to sort out.
Yeah, I know some folks who are very happy with TuneCore, CD Baby and others, but DistroKid has the best balance of features and cost in my personal experience.
Hey Pete, thanks for the great info! Do I actually upload the wavs to Distrokid? Apparently this would exclude the option of me adding my own metadata. A friend has just added metadata and this means I now have mp3's to upload?
Hey there. Yes, upload the WAV files to DistroKid of you’ll lose quality. Meta data can be added directly in to DistroKid to go to the platforms. studiolivetoday.com/distrokid
Hello Pete! Thanks for your video ♥ I wanted to know, if I switch to the PLUS plan, which I want to share with a friend, but we are 2 different artists, can we upload our music separately? 2 spotify accounts? The payments also arrive in a discriminatory way? In other words, for each artist? I hope you can answer, thank you
Hey there. You. An use a Musician Plus account to release music separately under two different artist names, and you can see money earned by artist name in the bank details, however it will all be paid to the account holder and you would need to split it manually. For two independent artists I would always recommend two individuals accounts to keep things clean.
Hey there. There are additional services and options for promotion, but DistroKid is mostly focused on distributing your music. studiolivetoday.com/distrokid
Pete …. I’m releasing a song I wrote and recorded, but is sung by a young lady I chose to sing it. I’ve a Musician Plus account, so can I put her name as the other artist on my account (with her permission!)? She’s opening her own Distrokid account because I’m splitting royalties with her and she needs a Distrokid account for that I understand. This then begs another question: Will my artist name (as her) and her same name on her DK account cause an issue, or not? Your thoughts would be appreciated!
Hey there. Yes that Luke cause as issue. You simply need to release it as you and list her in the title as a featured artist. DistroKid has instructions for this on the release page or your can look here - studiolivetoday.com/distrokid You then can go in to Teams and add her there as a member of the team for this song and assign what percentage of royalties she will receive. She’ll get 40% off her first year when she signs up if you u use this method. 👍
Need advice guys! I’m about to release my first song. But there’s a Single edit, and an extended version. Do I upload them separately, or choose 2 songs from the drop down menu?
@@PeteJohnsMusic Thanks for the reply Pete! Really appreciate it. If I released both the radio edit and extended version on the same song, will I need 2 ISRC codes? It’s very confusing Pete. Because, if you upload each one separately, which version do you push when advertising the single?
Hi Pete, so whenever I try to release my single. I am getting a message stating “there was an unknown error while uploading.” The artwork processes but it will not process the track itself. Please help!
It’s a slippery slope and really depends on what samples you’re using. Samples of commercial songs? Almost not worth it these days due to the complexityZ

Pete! Metal Head Hippie sent me! I enjoyed your grateful to fly song! It was a hoot!
Cheers Nicki! Thanks so much my friend. Rock on! 🤘

Nice one my friend. 👍
I made a few of the mistakes you’re talking about with my first single. Not to mention, I released through tunecore. Should have researched them more.

Measure once, cut twice? No biggie. We know what you mean. Just couldn’t help but notice that Pete as I use the opposite of this almost weekly.
Haha! I didn't even notice that in editing and I watched this many times. Big oops there!! 😄
Just what I needed to hear.
Glad to hear it my friend.
Cant wait!
Me too!
👍🤘🙏😎
See you at the premiere! 🤘

pete can i add a released song to an upcoming album through distrokid?
Yup, you can add previously released singles to an album, just can't release the same single against as a single.
Great question!
Thank You pete
Very welcome folks.
On musician plus, do we need to pay for pitch playlisting?

Will it be okay if I upload a song and put the release date 3 weeks instead of 4 ?
The longer the better to ensure it releases on tome. But 3 weeks will usually work - just no guarantees.

The choice is yours, you can either release as a 2 track “EP” with both songs on one release, or two individual singles.
