I never heard of this trend before, but the last time I went to my local fish store, I picked up two pieces of spider wood that fit together to look like a tree, and a heavy piece of driftwood with a hole in the middle to put them into for my new 5.5g custom-dirt shrimp tank I’m setting up! I have them soaking in my old leaky tank for now. So excited for my new build!

No more dollar tree. Now it is a $1.25 store. Don't know if they will keep the name or change it. Bought some items for $1.25. Never seen a shrimp tree. Could you make your own with silicone and stones and wood. I bet you would make a great looking shrimp tree with aquarium plants attached with super glue. Cannot wait for a tutorial video on how you will make your own tree. Great video as always and full of info.

If resin was used to bond the gravel, then the bottom form used was more likely a plastic condiment container (the kind you get with restaurant take-out for tartar sauce or salad dressing). The resin doesn't stick to these plastic containers after it hardens. You simply peel it off once it sets. I wouldn't put resin in a metal muffin tin. That would be a pain to remove, and ruin the tin in the process.

That last tip has been a suggestion I have given too... although I have never employed it myself. Using the gravel in your tank and aquarium safe silicone, create your own weighted plants (for those people like me who can't do live plants). If your fish pull it/them up and move it/them around, it/they will still blend in and not be so noticeable. I never thought to use that technique on driftwood though. That's brilliant!

      Dear Mary Paige Flynn,
May I drop this message to you ?
At this time of year I have always made it a point of those in my life who have made a difference for me in any given year. this year that I have had it has been a exceptionally tumultuous one. The only thing good that came out of it was my adopting my fish which then in turn led me to coming to the chats.
🧠💭🤗 (Hug)If you are reading this could I express A Huge note of thanks to you.?You strike me as very appreciative and joyous like myself.I hope I will be able to meet you someday At one of these fish keeping conventions and to say thank you in person. When I first got on to the chats I was a little afraid of any persecution because of my Fishkeeping inexperience and Billion questions. You were the first person on the multiple chats who helped me come out of my shell ( aquatic pun intended 😀) and gratitude is mine 😎
Happy holidays to you and yours and thank you always🕊️

Is this a new trend in the US? I don’t really keep up with it as much here most of my following and fellow scapers are European. I know Filipe Oliveira was the first to main stream this with his AGA contest tank in 2007. Should check it out it was gorgeous. I have done a couple over the years. A rather large one last year I ended up taking down that was moss as moss is a pain to keep algae out of in a low tech. I also did one in a Gourami scape and uses Alternanthera reineckii mini as the foliage. Saw Balazs from Green Aqua do that and it did amazing for a plant that isn’t really an epiphyte. Only negative is it will grow bright white roots off that have to be trimmed or look bad. As you mentioned Anubias would be great on one. With enough fast growing plants in the tank to combat algae. I think hygrophila pinnatifida would make a really nice one if trimming was kept up and especially in a high energy tank with nitrate limitation to get that nice red from it. I haven’t thought of a tree scape in a while! Thanks for bringing this back up might have to again one day. My mind is so focused on the IAPLC tank for 2022 I forget to enjoy the fun small scapes!
