I kept fish for over 40 yrs and got out completely when I sold my salt water tank. After about 5 yrs I was cleaning out my remaining small tanks and fell down the TH-cam rabbit hole came across your channel. Years of discus and angels taking up lots of space got me thinking small fish small tanks and getting back to enjoying the hobby on a smaller scale. Thanks for you information and beautiful scaping ideas.
Here's another vote for White Cloud Mountain minnows. I especially like the longfin and Vietnamese varieties. My honorable mention is Ember tetras. In my experience, Ember tetras school tightly once you get a large group together. I had a group of 18 in a 20 gallon long. The fish would spend hours going back and forth across the tank in a tight group. Also, Ember tetras really contrast well against a planted scape.
Great picks!! And wow the footage of the red cherrys! 😍 I will have to investigate 👀 I love that u added the corys as honorable mention - they are AWESOME schooling fish!! ❤️ great vid!!
Need to try those red cherry tetras, they look stunning! I've recently fallen in love with the rasbora hengeli as small schooling fish, got 16 in my 60 gallon community, they are always together, upfront in the open and active. Plus that lovely small stripe of orange that pops from across the room without being overwhelming. Think I would like to see them in an even larger group.
Black Neons are my favorite Tetra. They are hardy and whether swimming or just chilling they love to stay in each others company. I have 12 myself in my 55 G
Aha, I guessed cories as the "plus one" fish! They have SO much personality! When I have space for a large enough tank, the first thing to go in will be a school of gold laser cories.
Golden white cloud mountain fish are stunning when kept in a summer tub and they get some sunlight - wow does that sunlight make their colors more intense!
Lovely video. My favourite is Ruby Tetra (Axelrodia riesei) - lovely pinky red with a bright little tail light small like embers and great schooling behaviour - love mine do much
Ember tetra are another good one. My 11 green neons do swim around independently, but every evening they group together and swim back and forth up and down across the entire back of the tank , they look like they are playing together 😊
Awesome content! Great list of schoolers. Especially the dwarf rasboras. I just purchased 12 from Dansfish and I love them. Super cute little schoolers.
Oooh! Those red cherry tetras are so cute! I like this list. Plan to add a group of panda corydoras to my 40b that currently has some black neon tetras in it. I think the green fire tetra aka rathbun's bloodfin are an overlooked gem for a small schooling or shoaling fish.
I am a huge fan of the White Cloud Mountain Minnows. They are so underrated if you ask me. There are a few different varieties and all are so pretty. And boy, do they school! I love mine so much. BTW- You look maaaavelous darling!! I LOVE your hair 😍
Hi there! Nice list 👍🏻 I am always drawn to those black neons and the silver tip too. I’d love to add some cory cats as well. So many great options! So few tanks. 😉
I can't help but notice 3 of the fish are tetras. I totally agree with you about tetras being good schoolers. Most of the nanofish will be great schoolers since their M.O. is to school in large numbers for protection. This behavior may not hold up in an aquarium with no predators.
My best schoolers are my harlequin rasbora! And so pretty. I have about 12 in a 29 gallon. I’m sure a 20 long would work too. And they are easy to find at LFS. I love the ones on this video! But I’m not sure I see them available locally. But I’ll look!
I have green fire tetras, which also have tipped fins, and they're so mesmerizing to watch. They are in a tank with panda cories, BN plecos, and mystery snails... lots to watch but I think I need, oh, maybe 30 more of the tetras? I want a huge cloud of fish like in your video!
I have the silver tips in a 29g. The rest I havn't really tried. My LFS has beautiful batch of black neons.. Maybe I'll go check them out next week. Looking for something for the 20 long, my porkchop rasbora are down to two fish after 5 years. The tank needs new life. I was holding off for my rummynose rasbora, but they are really hard to find around here. 💚💚
I was thinking cory at the start of the video. cardinal tetra and dwarf rainbow have been my best schooling fish. but believe it or not, if you have a big enough tank, angelfish are brilliant schooling fish.
@@dumbfishtanks yeah they did the same until i moved them into the fully planted 20 and added some Psedomudils. They still hide when I come up to the tank but not as much as before.
@nathanhoveyaquatics I was gonna add some dither fish but unfortunately the rasboras started breeding so now I don't wanna add anything that might eat the fry
*Since the White Clouds stay near the top of the tank, would you say they are a "High Schooling" species while the Red Cherry Tetras seem to be "Middle Schoolers" and that places the Corys in elementary school ?*
Could I please have some help? I am a beginner. I have a 10 gal tank. I have had it for over a month, and I have some live plants. I am having a horrible alge problem. It is a brown alge on the walls and stones. I scrubbed the walls and cleaned the couple of fake plants. I have a filter, light, and a bubbler. I have 3 neon tetras, a beta, mystery snail. The tank is not near a window. I don't understand what I am doing wrong. Any help would be appreciated.

Glad you jumped back in for a new swim 😂
I am shocked the green neon isn't actually on here 💚 I told my husband it would be number one 😂 Cory cats are so flipping adorable 😍
😂😂 I know right…I kind of snuck them in via a mention. Doesn’t feel quite right 🤭💚
@@thesmallscape I’m thinking of getting green neons. Do they actually school well Joanna?
Your hair looks very nice.👍
Thanks so much, John!
@@thesmallscape you're so very welcome 🙂

lol my very first choice in my tanks are my "flock" of panda corys! Love their cuteness and happy ways!
So fun!!! 🙌🙌🙌
Digging the new hair lol
😊

HAPPY WEDNESDAY !
Your hair looks awesome !
Thanks! 😊
I like the new hair highlights/streaks. Fun to try new
Wow! The new do looks great!! Thank you for the info also!
Aww thanks ! 😊
So timely! I'm looking to add a school of smaller fish to my 40B. I love how the Silvertip Tetra move together like a starling murmuration.

Great video and I notice a new hair style looks Great 👍

Loving the hair.Out of the fish I keep, rummy nose tetra and candy cane tetra together in a 55.Not a nano tank, but nano fish, maybe?

I’d forgotten about the beautiful paw print stone! Fun list!
Your hair looks great. 😊 Nice list of schooling fish. Thanks for sharing. Cheers.
Well, thank YOU! Cheers!

love these! very nice scape too!
Great info on the 5 best. What do you think of Rice Fish? Hard to have? Live or egg layers? Just wondering.
Kubotai Rasboras are great schooling fish. Not shy at all, always front and center.

Right?! 🔥 “see” ya later on the livestream! 🙌 woop!
I was excited to watch this video when it was teased monday!
Well, thanks so much for droppin by! 😊
Great information Joanna! Oh and by the way, your hair looks so nice...nothing to do with fish, but I love it! xo

I've never seen the Cherry tetra. Going on my list ❤
Those Red Cherry Tetras are quite stunning... but so expensive 😮
A decent group of 20+ could cost more than the aquarium they are swimming in 😂
I was thinking cory at the start of the video. cardinal tetra and dwarf rainbow have been my best schooling fish. but believe it or not, if you have a big enough tank, angelfish are brilliant schooling fish.
I need to find some of those pretty Red Cherry Tetras! The Silver Tip Tetra is another really pretty little fish!
Yes and YES!😊
We ❤ the small scape!!!!! ♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️
🤭😊👍
All of those fish are pretty, but I just love corys.
Nice list
I have a 20 gallon with about 30 Dwarf Emerald Rasboras in it and it's amazing.
All my emerald rasboras just hide 90% of the time 😭
@@dumbfishtanks yeah they did the same until i moved them into the fully planted 20 and added some Psedomudils. They still hide when I come up to the tank but not as much as before.

@@dumbfishtanks oh nice, yeah I wouldn't add anything either.
Do you think the red cherry tetra silver tip tetra would be good tank mates with chili rasboras? possibly some lyretail killifish also, thanks
I love the serpae tetras
Bravo!

Fun fact. There is a difference between schooling and shoaling fish.
What’s your opinion on having honey gourami with CPDs?
It’s worked fine for me 😊
Corys 😍😍😍
How do i grow my female betta fast after 6 months i am trying to breed her with my male but my male is to big?
these are most shoaling fish apart silvertip tetras and corys, one of the best examples of schooling fish would be Rummy nose tetras
💚💚💙💙
Anyone who says black neon tetras are boring never seen them under a blacklight💯
🙌🖤💙
I brought 6 white minnows 3 of them jumped out of tank😑
First heck yea
😊hiya!
the flashing light thing is giving me a headache.
