Again, New York didn't come up with the idea behind these. Italians did. Frittata di maccheroni, torta di rigatoni, et al have existed for a very long time in Italy. The only innovation here is that it's shaped like a doughnut rather than a pie or cake. The negative reaction to these things is ridiculous. It's just spaghetti that's baked.
