      It all depends on how you treat your beans. If you bought them pre-ground you should expect bitter coffee. If you used a public grinder; bitter coffee. If you don't clean your own grinder; bitter coffee.
      And I find Tanzanian and Zambian coffees to be smoother than South American. Although Central America has some great beans, too.

  • @Jionunez7
    @Jionunez7 7 ปีที่แล้ว +317

    You didn't prepare the Cafe Bustelo correctly. First of all, its an espresso, so you have to perculate it, and give it to them in small cups. Secondly, its a Cuban-style espresso, so you have to add sugar and stir it vigorously to make the crema.

    • @edwardlongshanks827
      @edwardlongshanks827 7 ปีที่แล้ว +16

      Or you could just use an espresso machine so you didn't have to "stir the ever-loving fuck out of it."

    • @grizzizlmon
      @grizzizlmon 7 ปีที่แล้ว +23

      Edward Longshanks If you use an expresso machine, you've practically ruined it. It's prepared a certain way, using a specific brewing contraption. You stir it so the sugar dissolves.

    • @grizzizlmon
      @grizzizlmon 7 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Jionunez7 I was waiting for this comment!

    • @Jionunez7
      @Jionunez7 7 ปีที่แล้ว +24

      Edward Longshanks No you don't understand. With cuban coffee, you put sugar in a metal cup and add a bit of the coffee to it, and stir that. Then you pour that cream back into the coffee. An espresso machine won't do that for you.

    • @edwardlongshanks827
      @edwardlongshanks827 7 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Grisel Ramirez
      Except an espresso machine creates crema without having to "stir the ever-loving fuck out of it." But I suppose if you are trying to simulate crema at home because you don't have an espresso machine but only a moka pot, you would have to "stir the ever-loving fuck out of it."

    What makes American coffee unique?
    I'm no coffee snob, but I know you've got Arabica and Robusta, then the different countries it comes from which are no more than 1000 miles N or S of the equator.
    So all that's left is how you roast it and instant is usually over roasted.
    So what do Americans do that makes it different?

    • @johanfalk2875
      @johanfalk2875 7 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      +Alastair You're correct, the vast majority in the US is arabica, so there's not much difference except the roasting. That said, we do have a unique coffee, Hawaiian Kona, which is grown in Hawaii and is smooth and excellent. Most of the super-cheap brands in the US differ only slightly from classic arabica and all tend to be over-roasted such that they come off bitter.

      Hi I'm 30 and coffee is basically nasty. I drink it for the caffeine alone, which means cream and sugar.
      And before you say it, I had a Colombian roommate in college who had direct access to a few plantations in Columbia and got some of the best Colombian coffee you could get delivered to him... and he roasted and brewed it properly. He also once got his hands on some raw Ethiopian Yirgacheffe, which he also roasted and brewed properly...
      I still needed cream and sugar for all of it (well okay... for some, the sugar was enough).

    I usually buy whole bean and then grind my own. Keeps the flavour better. Coffee depend on where it is grown, how it is roasted, and how it is brewed. Americans preference for coffee probably developed after the British Tea Act in the 1770’s. We drink a LOT of coffee. Never drink instant (get a French press), Kaluha is great in coffee especially with cream or half and half. Yum!

  • @TheKnutcase
    @TheKnutcase 5 ปีที่แล้ว

    Oh my gosh I love these guys. I dont like my coffee without quite a bit of sugar.....no milk or cream cant stand the stuff. But there are so many types of coffee and ways of fixing it. I personally love a cappuccino but instead of being made with espresso which to me makes it too bitter I like it made with regular light roast. But if it is cold cappuccino I want then I like to blend a small squirt of chocolate syrup with a quarter cup of day old coffee and a cup or so of vanilla ice cream in a blender and cap it off with whipped cream with a drizzle of chocolate syrup. That says wake up and stay up on a hot summer day.....of course ya'lls summer days arent quite like ours. I am from Georgia....that is the Georgia in America......but spent most of my life in Florida....where it can get over 105 degrees Fahrenheit in the summer. In Georgia there arent many cooling breezes like there is in Florida nor are there many beaches to cool off at. Instead it is just hot and muggy. When it does rain which isnt often during the summer the storms come fast and hard and when they leave the ground lets off steam and you can watch it dry faster than rubbing alcohol on a piece of glass. It makes the air like a steam sauna and miserable for a few days and brings out mosquitoes (called skeeters here). So yeah.....coffee cold is the way to go in summer. My mother disagrees. She is so addicted to the stuff she swears she is going to get a medic alert bracelet that says in case of accident administer coffee intravenously. But ya'll say coffee from America is different than Euro coffee. How is that? Is yours like Cuban coffee....theirs is like a syrup thick and rich and muddy so strong it is an acquired taste and can fix a deep scratch in a walnut finished piece of furniture by painting it on for 5 minutes and wiping off and is served in a cup the size of the ones you rinse and spit with in a dental office or the size of the cups nurses give you pills in when your in the hospital.

    60% of the video is about how they don't like drinking coffee black. 35% of the video is about how the coffee was made, ie. "it's so watery." 5% of the video is actually about how America's coffee is different from theirs. Actually, I don't think any of the video was about that, basically they were drinking normal coffee black.

      And yet they were not wrong about all those being crap.

      Half the comments were about the packaging, not the coffee. It seems they were all drinking it black, no sugar...which most Americans don't do. Starbucks is, and always has been, severely overpriced swill, DD is weak unless you add more grounds to the brew, Cafe Bustelo is frikkin expresso, and Folgers comes in different strength blends for different tastes.

    To help with the bitterness, sprinkle a little bit of salt in the grounds before brewing, it will totally change the way you view coffee.

    Wasn’t much of a coffee drinker until I tried Cuban coffee in Miami - it definitely changed my life. All you need is a brick of Cafe Bustelo, a stovetop moka pot/cafetera, a lot of sugar and a small steel decanter to make the crema/azuquita. End product - delicious rocket fuel. I’d refuse to have coffee made any other way to this day. ☕️🇨🇺🇺🇸

      Turkish coffee is known to cause poop explosions, because you can't get to the toilet fast enough.

    I retired 4 years ago, and that is the last time I had a cup of coffee. I only drank it to stay awake in the morning every so often. I don't miss it.

    Folgers coffee is a brand associated with regular coffee you drink in the morning that is smooth and darker than normal. Seattle's Best is a rich Starbuck's competitor in the luxury coffee market. It's darker and smooth but not as rich as Starbucks. Dunkin' Donuts coffee is the smooth non-bitter creamy coffee compared to all the others and it's usually lighter in flavor. Cafe Bustelo is in the opposite range. It is bitter, strong, and thick and less expensive than the other brands.
