I've made my own seat cover just like this from 6mm spacer mesh. I also put 1 more layer of the textile in front and to the sides, so i slip to the tank less and so that my tailbone hurts less. It works. .... The only downside to this is, as you said, it's a little slippery. cheers
I noticed a lot of bikes in Sri Lanka fitted with a similar type of cover. Didn't give it a second thought until watching this review. Makes sense now, a definite purchase before next year's heatwave.
I saw this a couple weeks ago on your trip... I couldn't wait for the review...its hot here pretty much year round in florida.... and rainy in between. I put this on my ktm 1190. The 3d mesh really works and dosent collapse under your butt.. it now will be permanently fitted. Thanks for putting me on to this little gem.. as to cost. Worth it not to have swamp butt
Hi TMF I found your video eventually for some reason it didn’t pop up automatically, glad to hear you are impressed with the seat cover I have ordered one for my Morocco tour looking forward to a cool bum. 🤓👍🏼
Went to Goa a few years ago and every man and his dog had one on his bike along with the wife, kids the weeks shopping and a goat. £65 does sound expensive. Don't expect the Goans we're paying 65 Rupees for there covers.
I bought this type of cover for ALL my bikes. I ride in Palawan, Philippines where it is ALWAYS hot, ALWAYS humid, and where it can have some SERIOUS rainfall if you're unlucky to be caught in a tropical thunderstorm. I would say there a 3 definite benefits to these....... 1 - The AIRFLOW under your bum :-) Ever since fitting this cover I have NEVER suffered from sweaty ass syndrome! You can FEEL the air flowing beneath you on the seat. 2 - Rain! Because the net construction is 3-dimensional the rain flows THROUGH the cover down onto your standard seat cover beneath it and just naturally flows away. You NEVER end up sitting in a puddle of water which would otherwise pool in your crutch area. Consequently no matter how heavy the rain, you always arrive with a dry bum! 3 - Comfort. Again due to the 3-dimensional construction, the cover is about 6 or 7mm thick and has a degree of 'compression'. It's rather like sitting on a miniature spring mattress. The effect is only minimal, but every bit helps. If I buy another bike, this will be top of my list for £value accessories. I wouldn't be without one.
Thanks for the review. Pricey but, contrary to some of the comments below, there is no direct equivalent on eBay or AliExpress. Yes, there are mesh seat covers that are universal fit and different design, so it is not a matter of getting the same / identical product for cheaper. It costs what it costs and people will either have to buy it or will take a pass.
There is a direct equivalent on Ali which I linked in my earlier message here. It's GS specific, not universal, and they also make specific fits for many other bikes too. Universal is available if you want. Cost is about £19 inc postage to UK and in addition it includes the pillion seat as well which Cool Covers doesn't. I can't judge the quality or whether it's inferior to Cool Covers but for £19 it's probably worth chancing if you want one of these things. For the UK, these covers probably aren't that necessary given that prolonged very hot weather here like we've just experienced is about as common as a urinal in a convent. But they seem a good idea for hot climates.
I've used one for the last 4yrs,fantastic. Also keeps your bum dry if it rains. Only cost me about £4 for a one size fits all type that covers the pillion seat too. (not sure if it would fit the GS with a 2 piece seat)
I had one of those on my step-thru when I lived in Laos. It gets very hot and humid there. Cost me a princely sum of $4. Those mesh seat covers actually work. Pity I can't get one to fit my F800R.
Got a cool cover for my Royal Enfield Himalayan. It does add to ventilation and general comfort. Feel a mug to have paid £65 for it when as stated previously they are on ebay for a fiver! That'll teach me!
Impressed as always with the organisational skills. Throwing a review into the mix whilst in Norway, good work! I could do with something like that next summer for my Multistrada, Ducati don't half throw some heat up as I am sure you are aware....👍
Thanks for the video. Temps here have been at around 35C. The stock seat is just too warm. Did a trip from Colorado to Minnesota and I could have definitely used something to keep my bum cool. Will have to consider the cool Covers (if sold in the USA) for next year's Summer.
These are about £5 on ebay i had one before and they seem to work but im surprised because the mesh squashes down. they now do a silicon 3d seat pad that i dont think squashes which should work better but its about £25 and nobody has reviewed one yet
Yes worth the hassle. As previously said; it's your catchphrase. One of them anyway. Yes at 65 quid someone's making an unreasonable mark up, but like paying a fiver for a can of pop, if you're thirsty you'll pay it. Don't know if a sweaty arse falls into this context though.
Interesting review and great information...I live in the Southern US and def can understand being hot while riding.... but I personally can't imaging having to do any mods to that Wunderlich... especially while costing nearly $900 US for the front seat only. Wunderlich should have thrown in a Cool Cover for free if aware that their seats were miserably hot.. On top of that you have to worry about an additional adjustment to comfort? No thanks. I find that Under Armour (Heat Gear) underwear and t shirts plus Nike Pro gear work wonders keeping me cool. They make tights, briefs ,socks and t shirts designed for athletes and to keep you cool. They're compression fit and add a nice tight addition layer of protection to the skin as well.Plus a lifetime no hassle return policy.
Yes the Wunderlich heated seat is super expensive (and as it turns out not that comfortable on a long trip - at least to me), would have been a good addition. I also wear base layers and agree on the benefits....
Good video, not for me at that price, but good info. I can’t find one for £2 quid like some say, but I guess savings are to be made. Nippy Norman’s is usually the best quality.
@TheMissedenFlyer, how much comfort was added? I'm considering one and they are meant to help, lots cheaper than the KTM Powerparts seat for the Super Adv S.
I have a very simlar thing on my Tracer700 yep keep the old bum cool......it works....great review thank you TMF.....Oxford outfit review still going to be late...I saw the review in Ride maginazine but it did not name it....:)
TheMissendenFlyer Hmm i wonder if they have it at the NEC Live in Nov I am going to that would be great to buy a set.......right let's pester Oxford for more information LOL
I got one for my Tiger 800. Unfortunately for me, although it works brilliantly, it also raises the seating position just enough to be too high for me so I’ve had to take it off.
My engine gives of a lot of heat to my legs and not a little less to my bottom. Nice in winter, not so in summer. My saddle is getting a bit too soft in some places and that becomes a pain in the a... Any idea how to cover that problem? Ride safe
@@andypert514 I didn't.. sold the FJR and bought an original VFR800 for general riding - just as comfortable for me - and a ZX7R for sunny Sunday afternoons!
TheMissendenFlyer yes that is likely to be a problem, I might try a velcro attachment system that I could remove quickly in case of rain, then again in this country it would likely spend more time in the pannier than on the seat!!
As usual a concise and informative presentation. Thanks. On a totally unrelated topic, do you use an app or do you go onto hotel chain websites to find accommodation such as when you were riding South from John o Groats a few months back? If it’s an app, what’s it called? Spent an hour aimlessly riding around at the end of a long day this Summer trying to find a bed and there’s got to be a better way!!! Ride safe.
I was wondering if you could sometime do a review on a cheaper brand like 9F06 Seat Cushion Mesh Dampproof for Seat Cover 3D Motorcycle Air Pad Black. And perhaps compare the two.
Love the idea of this seat cover regardless of the price. The seat height in my Tiger 955i is pretty high already. I would imagine I look like a very old bearded ballerina on point when I stop at a traffic light. 😳 With the extra thickness of the cover; did it make your GS feel taller? Were you still able to put your feet down close to the same amount with and without the cover?
This is not a question about the seat cover, but as you are involved with the insurance, company, can you find out or tell me why, when you have to have insurance to ride a motorcycle in the UK, we as Non uk residents cannot freight a bike to the UK and get insurance. The only way is to either buy a bike in the uk under anothers name and but you on his insurance, or Hire, which is too expensive. just seems crazy that you have this rule.
