I mean I know what you're saying but generally when people think faster, its more hp/tq, but for cornering, which lets be honest, practice would be #1 on that list. But it's hard to incorporate a list for all types of riding and racing. tracks like wide soft slicks, won't necessarily apply to street bikes, enduros, trials bikes. 1. Develope skill & confidence (shifting points, brake/throttle points, entry & exit lines, tire position/ feel) 2. Great presentation. I " optimised " my 2009 Bonneville with all the above considerations. One thing I'll advise on staying alive grounds is not to up the front sprocket from 18 to 19 tooth thinking that the power will be there but on longer legs... The longer legs are there but the top end poke is gone at 85 max. OK for Chugger types but potentially deadly in half challenging road riding situations

It's probably not tuned yet for your intake & exhaust set-up, forget the maps from dynojet, they're off by big margin, custom tune is the only way to maximize performance.
Gotta agree on the weight thing. I talk to guys all the time, who spend a great deal of money to get minor improvements when the best improvement would be to get rid of the timber around their waist, thighs, between their ears.
Ryan, I STRONGLY agree reading Twist of The Wrist 2 made me a better rider and saved my life many times. It's sad and true there are just too many egotistical riders that really don't possess the aptitude to become a good rider AKA ambition greater than ability.
I come from the school of 'If it ain't broke, don't fix it'. Done correctly, the intake, fuel, exhaust combo you described so well here is probably going to work as advertised. That said, I can't count how many posts I've read where someone says "I've done this and now my bike does that (insert preferred bad symptom here)" I'm going to go out on a limb here, but if you wanted a faster bike, why didn't you just buy... a faster bike? Thanks for yet another great F9 installment, Ryan!
I add teeth to the rear wheel. If you go down one on the front sprocket, you increase the chain's angular velocity, thereby accelerating the wear on your chain. I went up 4 teeth on my Ducati multistrada, it really stomps its way out of corners now.
another informative video...... you sir are a god amongst the squid, childish vloggers on here. I shall pray to thee a thousand buxom babe's for your hard work
I have a ZRX1200. Going down a tooth makes the bike faster and I don't loose any top end. Since the top speed comes in way below the red line, by going down a tooth in the front lets the engine rev a tad higher in top gear, hence for a stock ZRX, "It's a win win !" By the way, great video. I follow all of your videos, you do a great job and are very informative. Barry
Well thought out approach to making more power. I can't tell you how many times I have had a conversation with a guy, and he was just sure he could tell by 'seat of the pants' feel that he only needed one of these add ons to make 20 more HP. Flatly refusing to ever have it dyno tuned just makes me crazy since that gives direct feedback and could show those guys what the reality is.

I told him I'm not paying a penny more than NADA value. Then from there talked him down to five thousand. So I have a power commander, Two bros slip on, KN Air Intake all for the price of a stock bike. Gotta love the used market sometimes!

thank you for all those advices. I stick with EBC HH on my bike and the Kawi is going to receive theirs next saturday. Tires, Michelin road 5 is perfect for rainy Britanny. Exhaust and air filter are planned : K&N and Akrapovic. And a ECU tuning.
Imo DNA airfilter is better. And reflashing instead of a powercommander makes you able to adjust more than just air/fuel ratio. Maybe you could make a video about reflashing? I did that on my bike and what a difference! :-) All those sleepy factoryhorses are now unleashed and kicking! :-)
Flashing & Tuning definitely makes a huge difference compared to a simple PC5. I had my ZX-10R flashed and tuned this winter and it also unlocked the autoblipping (clutchless downshifts) mechanism. The bike just feels awesome now.
Piggyback computers worked in the old days by advancing the timing and requiring you to use premium fuel, basically trading safety-factor for a few hp, but this is all automatic on modern engines with knock sensors. O2 sensors and airflow sensors keep the mixture in the ideal range. So...what exactly is there to change?
Was going to leave a comment about reflashing, but I'll just thumb this one up instead. Oh and if you're thinking of changing sprocket sizes try plugging in the numbers to gearingcommander.com, paying special attention to the "Same Tooth - Same Link" section.
Ideal in a manufactors point of view. They have to maks engines that pass the Euro4 emissons and noisereductions. It's a compromise between what customers want and laws and rules the bikes must respond to. So without those compromises, we can unleash the horses at the whole revrange, with no lean mixture at certain revs due to regulations. That's why!
John Puremaster ya gotta flash before you reflash don’t ya? I flashed one time... still in the county jail, something about “a three hundred pound Harley rider was indecent “ Hell I don’t know. 😮😂😅😂😅
Maaaan! It was just like you described my set up. -1 front sprocket, Full Arrow, BMC Air filter, dynojet power comader with custom map, steel brake lines, track oriented pads and Racetec RR K3,s (third set from the last summer. The only other ones I use are full slicks for the track, but the Metzeler is the way to go, for everything if you ride a sport bike a bit harder. P.S. I also added, Ohlins cartridges for the fork and Ohlins rear shock, and a quickshifer (but I kinda disliked it, so I unplugged it) but yours were the first few.
Love to hear someone mention rider weight. Cheapest HP you can get. I lost 20Lbs and bike is noticeably quicker. Saved $2k in mods to get same performance. Maybe will upgrade later, but having 160hp on tap stock, I’m not losing sleep about it. If I was riding a 250 or 300, I might be more interested in upgrades.
Great vid mate! I like the way you present .. Just one note: are you sure that brake pads have a "ventilation channel" and not a "wear indication groove"? :) just saying ..
Funny that in some countries dropping the cat from your exhaust is illegal (as it should be) but changing the sprocket teeth count is legal. It massively changes the bike's fuel consumption and therefore emissions. It substantially changes the bike from its homologation. Very illegal in my country, and for very good reason.
I'm a brand new rider and I am riding a brand new 2020 Kawasaki Vulcan S. I put a new exhaust and a booster plug almost immediately. I didn't do it because I wanted more power. I enjoy the sound of the exhaust and I wanted to smooth out the throttle (I read the booster plug did that). I intend on replacing the paper filter with a drop in K&N-like filter. I don't think K&N actually makes one for my bike Edit: I know new bike is not recommended for new riders. I'm 43 and I am mature enough to not ride like a speed demon. I also installed engine guards for the inevitable drop. I don't mind scratches.
I put a -1t front sprocket on my dad’s klr650 so he could slow crawl off-road easier. His 1st gear off throttle went from like 9-10mph to like 4-5mph. Night and day difference.
Hey man, love your channel. Its been very helpful for a novice rider like me. I have a question about these mods though. I have a Honda cb500f. If i were to apply the mods in this vid to my bike, what would the increase of power look like? Ive looked all over the internet for other cb500 owners that mod their bikes and there are plenty but i bever get a straight answer. And no, ik not buying a bigger bike, i love my cb500f, im just curious about its hidden potential.
You wouldn't see any increase in power at all, that's not how it works. You'd certainly feel an increase in power though. If we were to quantify what the power would look like without using interpretive dance, I'd say it would look like a cross between a small section of thatched roof and a sturdy yellow umbrella. Hope that helps.
Red paint and stripes give 10hp extra. The louder your exhaust is, the faster the bike will be as well, and people around you will love you more everytime you ride past them.
Larger sprockets load the chain less than smaller ones so always go bigger if you can. If you want more top speed or lower revs on the highway, go bigger on the front but engine cases, gear shafts, etc. can limit how big you can go. If you want more acceleration, go bigger on the rear. Limit here is the OD of the tyre.
Cheaper? You're not using Bren tuning then. It's way more expensive than a pc5 with autotune. Not too mention now it seems that they don't mind having a piggyback controller after they flash the ecu. So sometimes they'll just do both.
I don't know how complicated motorcycles are with fuel injection, but on a car or truck if you put an aftermarket cat back exhaust and a CAI then most any vehicle can adjust for the A/F ratio without tuning it. Tuning is usually for changing the timing of the fuel injection, not the pulse width or dwell on time for the actual fuel delivery.
50% of your bike performance is in your tyres, 25% is in the suspension, the other 25% is in the rest. If you want to accelerate faster, get tyres first and get two friends to help you set up your suspension. A twist of the Wrist is golden, and available for free here on youtube. Keith code also shows step by step how to adjust your suspension perfectly to your needs, also on youtube.
Changing air filter won't make eating disorders for your injected bike. On low throttle the o2 sensor, located in the exhaust, will adjust fueling. For higher throttle a static table is used. The ECU gets input about how much air the engine is being fed, the amount of throttle you apply and what RPM the engine is running. That static table needs to have margins for cool weather, running the bike at sea level, having a dirty air filter and so on. So unless you're driving at sea level, in the coolest conditions the bike is made for, those few percent difference in an air filter is already accounted for. With a slip on things are the same for low load, the o2 sensor will make sure that cruising is fueled properly. In a high load scenario, things may (or may not) be different, since we're changing things after the ECU has read from its static table. Then again, manufacturers will throw some extra fuel just for the sake of it in high load scenarios, because that's not where they are limited by emission standards. Regarding using a map from power commander or exhaust manufacturer. It's not worth it, because it's not exact enough. If you're spending something like $500-1000 on air filter, exhaust and power commander, you want good mapping. Not for your specific model and part combination, but your specific bike. Sure, on some bikes you may have some standard gains in the emission control range, but that's really it. To be honest, the biggest gain with a power commander is not in power, it's in throttle control. Finely tuned fueling (by dyno, not downloaded maps), will make the throttle act more precise over the rpm range. For a bike with carburetors, changing anything will require adjustment of the carburetors. There's no ECU or o2 sensor to help you out, thus you'll need to do it manually. Again, doing this properly will require a dyno and wideband o2 sensors.
that last piece of advice is the most painful, but true one. probably 95% of the stuff you can do to make your bike go faster doesn't even compare to just losing 20, 50, even 100 pounds.
This is from ebc website, actually leaving me with more questions about that. "GPFAX Sintered Road Race Brake Pads have by far the highest known friction with a measurement between 0.6 and 0.7 and deliver the most amazing brake effect. Because of this factor, they are unsuitable for street use or for road tyres. "
I know that for cars, track pads are very bad at low temperature and very good at high temperature. So it's bad on the street because you can't get them up to temp.
specialist race pads are designed to work at their best under extreme load, heat, friction etc. Conditions that won't be found on day to day Road riding. They are also designed to be used in conjunction with race spec tyres, suspension, and very high rider skill. again things that aren't common on the road. even if the pads performed brilliantly in normal conditions, the lack of specialist tyres and suspension would likely make them more dangerous than good, doesn't matter how good your stopping power is if the forks are going to bottom out, or your tyres are going to melt off, you aren't going to stop nicely.
Potentially - some dB killers create more back pressure in the exhaust system. If you remove it, the bike could breathe more air (depending what you having going on at the air intake). As a result you'd get more power if your fuel delivery was sorted accordingly. But we're talking fractions of a hp here... the major difference is just noise and a minor side effect is slightly worse fuel economy (back pressure forces some un-burned gas vapor back into the cylinder, so it's kinda handy). ~RyanF9
Maybe a fraction but the noise will just draw cops attention and piss more people off at all bikers. Dumbest thing in the world is making a bike LOUD serves no real purpose. Pipe was designed by engineers for power and quiet. To get real power increase pipe would be designed for free flow and also other factors, not designed in stock pipe with just baffles removed. To get real power rejetting on carbs or remapping on injectors with free flowing intake is only way to get real power boost from more free flowing exhaust. Engine is a air pump and gas burner, you need more air and gas in and more exhaust out to really improve performance, and must be matched and balanced. 1 by itself many times lowers power as system is no longer balanced, ask any engine builder most pipe even good aftermarkets that are usually louder will increase top end power to free flow but lack of back pressure down low kills low end and midrange, no free lunches. Back in the day stock pipes were very restrictive and a pipe helped a good bit but that is no longer true.
how about the purpose of not getting run over by other drivers who would then stand over your dead body and say 'i didn't realise he was there". not to say bikes need window shattering volume, but a decent level does make you safer on the road.
This man is absolutely right, what is most important thing about kinetic energy, here let me put in a different light what's the most important thing after you start rolling in that vehicle or motorcycle, it is stopping, brakes are very important never skimp on calipers for brakes.

As much as I wanna just hate the guy for looking like King Jeoffrey, the videos are high value content and high quality.

Best thing is good tires and tuning your susp. And being a good rider.
Exactly. Speed and power are irrelevant if you can't or don't know how to control it and feel confident at the same time
How do you tune susp?
Ryan, I STRONGLY agree reading Twist of The Wrist 2 made me a better rider and saved my life many times. It's sad and true there are just too many egotistical riders that really don't possess the aptitude to become a good rider AKA ambition greater than ability.

That said, I can't count how many posts I've read where someone says "I've done this and now my bike does that (insert preferred bad symptom here)" I'm going to go out on a limb here, but if you wanted a faster bike, why didn't you just buy... a faster bike? I add teeth to the rear wheel. If you go down one on the front sprocket, you increase the chain's angular velocity, thereby accelerating the wear on your chain. I went up 4 teeth on my Ducati multistrada, it really stomps its way out of corners now.
A front swap is pretty cheap though, maybe good just to try it out.
another informative video...... you sir are a god amongst the squid, childish vloggers on here. I shall pray to thee a thousand buxom babe's for your hard work
I have a ZRX1200. Going down a tooth makes the bike faster and I don't loose any top end. Since the top speed comes in way below the red line, by going down a tooth in the front lets the engine rev a tad higher in top gear, hence for a stock ZRX, "It's a win win !"
By the way, great video. I follow all of your videos, you do a great job and are very informative.

Honest question though: what about installing high performance wheel bearings, like carbon ceramic to lessen resistance. Or iridium spark plugs. Good ideas?
This video just reminds me how expensive this hobby is. Thank God I bought my used 07 CBR600RR with many of the mods he mentioned. I think it should be mentioned that many of these mods do not add value to your bike. The owner of the 600RR wanted 6k based on the modifications it came with. I told him I'm not paying a penny more than NADA value. Then from there talked him down to five thousand. So I have a power commander, Two bros slip on, KN Air Intake all for the price of a stock bike. Gotta love the used market sometimes!
As always, very informative. It's always fun to customise your bike, fun and expensive.

thank you for all those advices.

I don't think K&N actually makes one for my bike
Edit: I know new bike is not recommended for new riders. I'm 43 and I am mature enough to not ride like a speed demon. I also installed engine guards for the inevitable drop. I don't mind scratches.

I save weight by not putting any coolant or oil in my bike. Works fine.
Des Ulv i remove all screws and pray the engine doesnt fall off
I just skip using gas
I just remove engine to reduce the weight and it works I reached 3000000000km/hr
😂😂😁
Same. I drain the coolant in the winter months.
Don't use a PowerCommander, remap your ECU instead. It's cheaper, easier and does a better job.
6Twisted ryan pls do a vid on this. Ecu reflashing
Cheaper? You're not using Bren tuning then. It's way more expensive than a pc5 with autotune. Not too mention now it seems that they don't mind having a piggyback controller after they flash the ecu. So sometimes they'll just do both.
Flame stickers of course.
6:10 thats no ventilation channel xD
Glad to see the Driver Mod made the list.
Do EFI engines run lean when you reduce the restriction on your intake and exhaust? Don't they have sensors and adjust automatically?
Turbo Hayabusa =D
Chris Minneapolis Holy fuck 275 horsepower? Are you sure your dyno isn't on drugs? Or did you use NOS and twin turbos
PartyPlace 15 dude a turbo can get it to 500
Changing air filter won't make eating disorders for your injected bike.
6:29 since when cops know about brake pads and how are they gonna notice
Yeah that’s what I thought, I’ve never seen a cop checking the brake pads.
that last piece of advice is the most painful, but true one. probably 95% of the stuff you can do to make your bike go faster doesn't even compare to just losing 20, 50, even 100 pounds.
What makes a brake pad not street legal?
Dank Kiwi i wonder too
Dank Kiwi my guess is the materials
Great to hear others pimping "Twist of the Wrist II" Great list buddy
Great video Ryan. Quick question does removing your db-killer increase your performance in anyway?
Potentially - some dB killers create more back pressure in the exhaust system. If you remove it, the bike could breathe more air (depending what you having going on at the air intake). As a result you'd get more power if your fuel delivery was sorted accordingly. But we're talking fractions of a hp here... the major difference is just noise and a minor side effect is slightly worse fuel economy (back pressure forces some un-burned gas vapor back into the cylinder, so it's kinda handy). ~RyanF9
Cheers bud ;)
Rosstinelli it depends on the design of your camshaft, on some bikes you might even loose horsepower if you lower the backpressure
