My family rode this for the first time tonight. My 12 yr old brother had ridden it before, but my mom and other brother and I had not, and had NO idea what we were getting ourselves into. It was dark out when we got on and we didn’t realize there was a whole 3/4 of the coaster you can’t see from the bottom. Let me tell you somethin. I did not open my eyes or scream ONCE during this ride because I was so petrified with fear that I was limp and praying 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂 my older brother and mom were traumatized. If you need to remember what it feels like to believe the good lord, I HIGHLY recommend riding this for the first time in the dark. Forgot I was raised religious till dolly reminded me by the grace of the lightning rod #shutupandpray

The same thing happened to me and my best friend lol. We got on at night got the first drop....... then quickly realized there was a much MUCH bigger drop coming after. It's the most fun I think I've ever had on a roller coaster. When we got off we were both teary-eyed from the wind and we looked like we came out of a tornado lol.

The fact that you think you're going to slowly climb the first hill and then you just accelerate hard, slow down and instantly hit an inverted drop is a truly terrifying feeling. Great ride!
Exactly what happened to us. I love coasters but my boyfriend is not a fan. We chose this as our first ride of the day. He were trying to ease into the big ones. We had no idea that was the fastest one there. He cursed and screamed from the moment we started up that hill. It worked out of because after this ride he had no issues getting on anything else. He just wouldn’t ride this one again. 🤣🤣🤣
When you're waiting in line for this thing, you have no misinterpretation about how this thing starts. You see the train roll out and then people screaming 10 seconds later haha
I rode this ride today and it’s intense and extremely fast! So far, it’s one of the best coasters I’ve ridden!

This was my first roller coaster that I ever rode. I blacked out after we went over the first hill so this was helpful to me to figure out what actually happened.

@@wonderfulmuffinz254 it was my first coaster too I also didn't know launch coasters existed so I was pleasently surprised that I got launched up the hill and then I also blacked out except after the first sideways part my mom said the screaming just stopped and then I woke back up when the ride stopped. And then the next more major coaster I rode was the Fury and honestly I loved it. Edit: the fury is more recent as in about 2 months ago.
@@wonderfulmuffinz254 I LOVE coasters since 1999 and this was the first coaster I blacked out on due to instant extreme speed throughout the ride. Rode it again this past wednesday, and I did not black out. Enjoyed this ride more!

I blacked out after the bunny hops. It was my first large coaster, so I asked them to slow it down some considering they said it goes 70+ mph. And they sped it up!!🤬🤬 so I wanted to watch this to see what I missed
I've been on alot of rollercoasters but I rode this 15 times yesterday and I had a smile on my face the whole ride it's insane
This video BARELY does this monster justice! Nothing like experiencing how fast this thing really is. The gravity is so intense that you can't think and have to catch your breath! I rode it yesterday and I'm still a little dizzy. Definitely did not expect it to be that crazy. There were two little kids sitting in front of me and I honestly think they didn't know what hit em! They were speechless and wild-eyed after.
ON GOD! I could barely move my head around it was so fast.
Crazy that the height requirement for this is only 48 inches. I wonder how many parents take their young kids on it not realizing how intense it is?

Just went to Dollywood this past weekend and started with the lightening Rod ...after that I could do ANYTHING! Awesome ride!

This ride was so worth the wait ngl. That pre-drop gives you so much airtime and the rest of the ride feels like an airtime machine. Even though this thing breaks down a lot, it's really worth it.

I rode Thunderhead right after I rode this and Lightning Rod made Thunderhead feel like a children's coaster! lol
This ride is FAST!!! I've been riding coasters all my life. This is the ONLY ride that I felt like I might actually throw up! And then I rode it like five more times that day lol

it staples you a little bit but its still absolutely insane. The launch hill, first drop, wave turn, outward bank, and quadruple down were all crazy to experience
When I rode this a couple of years ago, I wondered why there were hand pegs when the lap system came down. After going over the hill, I understood why. Definitely one of the fastest coasters I’ve been on.

I live here now and am a sp holder, I've have ridden this bad boy several times. I rode it during the "testing" phase. The seat restraints were different, and now she slows down right before you crest the peak. That was the fastest most intense ride of my life. Awesome coaster that must be experienced...period.
This roller coaster is awesome. I had the experience or riding it twice yesterday. Great job Dollywood.
My family did a two day here last month. This coaster is one that All coaster lovers have to experience. My family rode it four times on day one. The speed is absolutely exhilarating and those last four humps keep you out of your seat on on the restraints for the entire time.
Completely different now with the Ibox track. So smooth, like the difference between 30FPS and 120. You can really feel the vertigo in the new vids.

Got on it two weeks ago! It was awesome my butt was out of the seat for half of the ride and it’s the fastest wooden rollercoaster in the world right now (because of its wooden base.) they tell you that on the screen with all the ride info! It’s the best rollercoaster I’ve ever ridden
This was definitely intense but it was awesome!!! I still loved it. My 7 yr old daughter rode it with me & she liked it a little bit but she doesn’t really want to ride it again.. lol. I was impressed with her riding it. I would definitely ride it again. Love it!!!
one thing I really like about this coaster is that it rolls you up that first big height quickly, while other major coasters roll you up slowly, boringly, this one gets you right to the action. :-)

most rollercoasters build up anticipation with the clicking and the fact that you go slow, while this ride completely eliminates that factor, and shoots you up

Every time I came to Dollywood the ride was TD (Temporarily Delayed). But last time I came, I went on it! The first time I was petrified and closed my eyes the entire way. The second time I kept my eyes open and it is my favorite rollercoaster I have ever been on!
I went on this last oct it freakin kicked butt it was one of the best wooden coasters I’ve ever been on. My eyes were running from going so fast. It was smooth and my butt was trying to come up out of the seat. Just awesome
I adore roller coasts. I have been to Magic Mountain in California many times and is one of my favorite places. I have been on there scariest rides. Magic mountain coasters are nothing like Lightning Rod. I was scared and screamed the whole ride. 😮 super fun!!!!! Dollywood wins!!
Finally got to ride this bad boy this week. Front row, pitch black. Did not disappoint! Would have ridden more than once but I’m getting old 😂😂 after a day of coasters I had my heating pad on lol

I just got back from Dollywood and I was fortunate enough to get 3 straight night rides on it. I was worried because it was closed all day and it opened about 90 minutes before the park closed and I was over on Wild Eagle. I'm so glad it opened because it is one of the most fun coasters I've ever experienced, riding Lightning Rod at night in the cold when you can't see where you're going is pretty hard to beat.
I LOOOOOVED this coaster IRL. Went a couple months ago & it was closed most of the day, but we caught it right before we left. great times, dollywood is my fav

I rode this a while back. My family and I knew nothing about this rollercoaster and thought it was more of a tame one since it was wooden. We were wrong. That first launch took us all by surprise and we quickly changed our minds about it. It became one of my one of my favorite rollercoasters at the park.
One of the best rides on the face of the planet. My soul left my body in the best way on this thing.

That ride gives you no time to think. Love that Maverick like lift hill on an RMC. Terrain section year the end looks awesome too. Need to get to Dollywood sometime and try it. You know its good when you can tell from the video.

I rode this in October of 2019 and it was by far the best roller coaster I'd ever experienced. Weird that it is at Dollywood, but amazing, nonetheless.
Best ride in the park. First, it goes up the hill fast, so no need to be nervous the ride up. Second, it’s fast as hell and smooth!
Awesome job on the POV. Surprised my internet kept up in 4K haha. As good as the video is, I'm sure it still didn't do it any justice. I've been dying to ride this ride.

Both times I've been to Dollywood, this ride has been closed all day for no reason that I could tell. I hope to be able to ride it someday!
It's the first launched wooden coaster, so it has many mechanical problems.

My big brother and I rode this around Christmas time. Very cold but it was worth it. He got so hyped when we flew up the hill. It was so funny😂

Thank you for this I was so nervous about riding it but after this its lessened, all wooden, 70mph for max 10 seconds most of its relatively slow, it looks awesome I'd take Tennessee tornado or the eagle ride

I rode this for the first time 10/21/23. It was the most intense coaster I’ve ever rode and my favorite. Looking forward to going back next year

This and Mystery Mine best 2 rides at Dollywood hands down. Do yourself a favor and ride both at night as well. On an overcast night with no moon or starlight Lightning Rod is terrifying.
