Why I'd Buy a Fujifilm X-T2 over X-T4 | with X-T2 Samples!

  • Just my talking head this week. I wanted to rant a little about why I'd still pick an X-T2 over the X-T4 at this point... Having said that an X-pro2 or X-T20 would also still be well worth checking out for some folks. Not even a good thumbnail image because my other cameras are off getting serviced...

    Found a good deal on a XT2 body for under $500 back in 2020. Grabbed it up and no regrets still using it no plans to upgrade. The magic really comes from the lenses and Fuji’s color science which is in basically all their x trans cameras you just lose out on newer features like the ibis

    Hey Liam, this really resonated with me. There is something about finally getting the camera you 've wanted so badly for a long time . And because of that low price today that somehow outweighs the "shortcomings" in comparison to later models.

    I have just bought my second x-t2 + vg like new for a very good price. I have tried the x-t4 and I prefer the 24Mpx sensor. I think buying x-t4 makes sense for video : IBIS, articulated screen, battery life. But I only take pictures...

      @TheLiamGordon  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Absolutely! In fact if I was making a living from TH-cam I’d probably be tempted to get it for the talking head videos. But yes, the xt2 is still a solid stills camera👍

    I totally agree with everything you said. I love the image quality on my XT1. The only reason I bought the XT2 last year is because it was on sale, it had higher mechanical shutter speeds, more AF points, and the joy stick. I love the XT2. Image quality is fantastic. I only shoot stills so it's has everything I need. And as you so aptly said, you can spend that extra $1100 on lenses, lighting, accessories. Or maybe even that cool watch you've had your eye on. Cheers!

    Very sensible comments Liam. I can afford to buy the X-T4 but won’t as I dislike flippy screens intensely even for video. The Ibis attracts me but I don’t need it for stills now as I am using the 16-80 with fantastic O.I.S. I did have recently at one point an X-T1, an X-T 2 and X-T3. Took some comparative shots with all three with same settings/lens combo. Pixel peeped in Lightroom and the results... X-T1 brilliant but slower than the other two and wasn’t able to crop to the same degree, X-T2 slightly sharper images than the other two, X-T3 slightly better dynamic range than the other two. Final conclusion just looking at the final images. The X-T1 gave the most pleasing images and the other two were much the same. Moral of this story. They are all brilliant. Buy any one of them and like me you will not regret dumping your full frame brick.

      Gary Manning Good info there, Gary. I don’t have the brains or patience to test these kinds of things so I’m glad there’s folks out there that can answer these questions. It’s funny how the older cameras often produce the more pleasing image. I’ve heard the same thing about the original canon 5d.

    • @garymanning4578
      @garymanning4578 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The Liam Gordon Often the earlier lower pixel sensors produce the most pleasing tones and colour like the Nikon D700. The earlier pro Canons and the original 12 and 14mp Fuji’s. Fortunately with the newer Fuji’s you have a greater range of film simulations. The only reason I hang on to my X-T3 is the hope they will upgrade it this year to the new Classic Neg in the X-Pro 3. If they don’t I will probably let it go and return to my X-T2. Got to be patient.

    Love my X-T2, but with longer vintage lenses, like the very surprising Celtic Minolta 135mm MD (stop down a little and the sharpness is fabulous, and it cost me less than 40 dollars on ebay) then the X-H1's ibis saves the day. When you put ibis on continuous and look through the excellent viewfinder (the 135mm is now a 200mm on Fuji) and make sure you set your lens adapter setting to 135, and there's no movement in the viewfinder, no shake at all, it's thrilling.

    One photog that I really respect has both cameras and states the low light performance is clearly better on the X-T2. That makes sense: more phase detect points on the sensor, plus a slightly smaller pixel pitch = decreased low light performance on the X-T3 & X-T4 vs. X-T2.

It looks better than my cams! The whole megapixels arguements are just... Meaningless. For some reason the sensor of that x-t1 picks up more detail than the x-t3 and x-t30 ... But untill that time comes, I don't see how any other camera besides the x-t2 will ever be really necessary. The x-t2 is just the absolute sweetspot for a do-it-all, robust, fun and inspiring camera. It’s what I’ve started to recommend to beginners. I hate that so many people recommend a canon t3 or t5 as a first “real camera”. An xt2 can carry beginners all the way to professional work. It’s only become less favorable to me recently for street photography because I crave a quiet shutter & mechanical manual focus. But that’s a very niche want. :)

      @@jorvand3190 I think it’s a common misconception that it has to be silently and secretively done.
