    Message from late 2023! This was a fun video about the XT-2. I am a Canon FF user here who loved the files from the X100S I used to have. I just bought an X-T1 as an alternative and better way to get those X Trans 2 files back again. So I guess the X-T2 is my "upgrade path".

    Someone asked me “is that a good camera you’re using?” And I said “it’s not about having a good camera, it’s about the camera being able to do what you want it to do.”
    And then then I thought “damn, that’s good, I need to remember that.”

    If you're not sure whether you need colour of b&w, but still don't want to edit much in post, just flip the camera to film simulation bracketing, then set your favourite 3 profiles, and that's it: each shot saved in the 3 film simulations of your choice.

    • @TheMoeandOPhotoShowPodcast

    As a full time photographer "old" gear never held back. "Back in the day" I used the all new canon 5d mark Ii which was top notch. I get amazed to hear that my camera is completely outdated 5y later. The camera hasn't changed, the subject hasn't changed, my way of working hasn't changed. The only thing that changed is your view (imprinted by camera manufacturers) thinking you need more inside the camera while you only need more in your legs and fingers

  • @SeanKimStyle

    The thing is that cameras are coming out so quickly that a lot of "old" cameras are still super effective for a lot of peoples needs. On top of that, the xt-2 is a really good candidate for a new "old" camera because the xt-3 was more of a small upgrade in the photography side, sure the autofocus was a good upgrade but when it comes to autofocus there are diminishing returns and at the level of autofocus the xt-2 has, its more than enough.

    Unless you are shooting video or action, a lot of the new upgrades aren't really much of a benefit. I shot with the Sony A73 and realized for what I do (portraits and some landscapes) the older XT-2 was just as good and was actually more intuitive.

    Ha, you call the X-T2 old? That says a lot about today's buying habits and gear-centric mindset. I mean, in the film days, photographers easily used cameras for a decade or longer and often didn't feel limited in any way. I did pick up a used X-T1 three weeks ago for less than 300 bucks and will make that my camera for 2020 (and beyond). I don't consider it outdated. Maybe it has to do with my kind of photography. I mostly shoot (more or less) static subjects, so autofocus performance isn't a priority for me; neither are megapixels (some of my favorite shots were taken on a 6 megapixel DSLR and I never hesitated making large prints from these files). Either way, the camera body isn't the most important tool for your photography. I'd rate the lens choices far more important, for example. But even more so, it's your vision, subject, light and composition that make a good photograph.

    I have an old 60D with 50mm lens that has fungus and 18-55 with dead AF and I didn't liked it at first but I've grown to love it . I love the pictures it produces, it has some sort of a character when I look at it. But now, I recently got an X-T20 and it feels so weird using it! Not really dinging the EVF, it feels too "Hi-Tech" for me (If that makes any sense) and the pictures it takes feels too clean for my taste. I still love the feel and simplicity of an old DSLR, all I need is the ability to control ISO, Shutter speed and F-stop respectively and I'm happy! I'm sure I'm gonna love my X-T20 soon, mainly using it for travel and walking around my town and city.

    • @ogonzilla
      @ogonzilla 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Nothing like mushrooms in a lens. lol... EVF is terrible on the XT20. I know what you mean though. I can't let go of my Canon sensor for its film look with certain lenses. Sony and fuji (less so) don't have that same look.

    I think YT recommended this because I just bought a used X-Pro1 without realizing how "old" that "old" can be. But I will say this did help me with something an old friend talked to me about. She has a daughter who thinks she might be into photography and wanted to hear my input. I think the idea of a used camera is outstanding. So many problems are resolved with going with a used camera. The only issue is convincing others that it is really the smart decision. Another thing that did resonate with me is the topic of editing. I am not a pro but I am still caught in that raw edit wormhole. I need to look into letting the camera do that work for me. But that is a different topic.

    Thanks for the video. I am an XT-1 user since 2016. Recently, I am considering to upgrade to XH-1 for several reasons: (1) IBIS, (2) better resolution (3) more comfortable fit for my large hands and (4) amazing deals due to, probable, discontinuance of XH line and expectation of XT-4 with IBIS (which will leave the XH line in the shadow of the XT line). I don't do any video. The main reason I would like to upgrade the resolution is that my purpose as a hobbyist photographer is to print my photographs for my own use, preferably at A3 or A2 size. I don't know much about printing but as per my short research on the matter, it seems like the 24MP sensor gives approx 250dpi in A2 print where 16MP gives 200dpi. I am not sure how big of a deal that is but I would like to have a certain level of print quality both for my satisfaction and in case someday I would sell some of my photographs as prints. I would love to get your opinion on that matter. Cheers.

You only need a new camera when you want to do something different with your photography. A xt3 or Eos R Sony A7 3 will last you till it dies. If you switch to birds in flight or pro sports you might want a different camera. But once you get a good camera and stay in your lane you will not need a new camera for awhile

    Wait, so does that mean that older models will never get the new film simulations? For example the X100v will never get ETERNA Bleach Bypass? Or the X-Pro2 will never get Classic Negative?

    The X-T1 still kicks ass. The X-T2 is gonna be good for the next decade. Realistically, how much more improved can things be before it gets to the point where we might as well have robots out taking pictures for us? I saw a Kickstarter for a device with AI that you attach to your camera and somehow helps you take better pictures. I didn’t read about it, because the thought alone rubbed me the wrong way. There’s a beauty to imperfections and having to work around limitations. I don’t want perfect images. I don’t want my camera to do ALL of my thinking for me. But, end of the day, I’m going to be a hypocrite in saying, yes, I’m damn sure gonna buy an X-T3 someday. Anyway, end rant!

    The T-2 is like when the world standardised 1080p. After this, 4k, 8k its impressive but not as near a as 480p to 1080p.
    Most will not need to upgrade their bodys for years for any huge gain

    Omar, SEIKOs are not all made in Japan. The model reference letters tell you where it is made. Search in Google for the meaning of letters K, J, ... in Seiko's model reference.

    If you use Capture One and shoot raw, you have access to all the film simulations from Fujifilm. You can get a free copy of the software for Fuji owners.

    Here’s a question for you. I Have xt20. I have the chance of getting an xt2 for a really good price. I would then sell my 20. I don’t use my touch screen but would prefer joystick. Is the evf larger on xt2?? This is a big selling point for me. What would you do?

    • @ogonzilla
      @ogonzilla 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      AS much as I love my XT20....The XT2 is a much better camera, so if I could only have one...the XT2. The EVF alone is worth the price of admission.

    Over here tryin' to do a wedding with my X-T1 this weekend with two Godox and an X2T transmitter like, ummm. I feel totally gear shamed right now. 🤔 I still miss the simplicity of my Canon 30D. Still have my eos rebel from the 90's.

    I bought myself a Canon T90 with a 50mm f1.4 and I'm loving it. 30 years late perhaps? But what the hell. < £80 for the set up. I could even use real Acros now they are shipping it agin ;)

    Before clicking the video I thought you meant X-T1and I was already frustrated. X-T2 is a dated camera? Seriously? I got the X-T1 and the X-T3 and honestly I regretted getting the latter. This over-rconsumption thing is becoming annoying. I liked the video and your points though.

      Well, here's the quick story. I explain it here: th-cam.com/video/WipghZQM138/w-d-xo.html . Our channel wasn't growing much after a year, so we are trying to make shorter more searchable videos for youtube and longer audio recordings for the podcast. It's an experiment for now....we will revisit in a few months. Thanks for sticking around and being patient!!

    'Would have been enough to say "make that OLD camera your NEW camera ..." if not for the feature. I would have watched the video, again if not for the feature. Another year and all photographers map, plan, etc. their activities to fit the next 360 days with their current (old) cameras unless they got a new one as gift last Christmas.
