As someone who had a business remodeling homes, I really appreciate your realistic timeline. Many homes take years to complete a full remodeling. There are a few “crunch” jobs you can knock out in a couple days. But I am fully fed up with TV shows where an entire house is remodeled in a weekend. @@ragnkja Great question! There’s a show out there where they do the rebuild INSIDE AN EMPTY WAREHOUSE and move it on a truck to bring it into the house one wall at a time AFTER the flooring is finished.

I would guess - with all the little clues happening - that your house wasn't build in the 1910s but earlier. it seems to be remodeled to taste in the 1910/1920. there are those thick floor boards under the hardwood floors, the natural stone cellar that has been bricked up. the baseboards that reach under the actual floor. even the profile of the baseboards would be typical for an earlier time. Keep up with the good work. it will be interesting what else you will find. (more faux marble baseboards that look like zebra stripes ? who knows ;) )

They looked like fancy metal, but they are really just dirty plastic 🤣🤣 I still have it in storage, just in case, but I don't anticipate using it elsewhere
Nice video! We discovered motion sensor lights years ago. Open the front door, and the light comes on - no more groping for the light switch (which is too far away)!!! We've got a house jack under part of our main floor where two joists didn't overlap properly - been there 20+ years and still going strong!
Those motion sensors would have been great back in the day when you had to walk to the middle of a dark room and grope for a dangling pull string to turn the lights on. I don't miss those old ceiling lights at all.
Yup ..I own an old house also. Impossible to do one project, each one uncovers others that need to be addressed first, to get back to the original one. I always double/triple the amount of time I think it will take. Motto of an old house - Nothing is Easy!

Guys go back on the roof and replace the flashing for the chimney. all the flashing was not there. Without the flashing around the chimney, you will have water leaking thru the ceiling and between walls. Also, the 2 boards that buckled where you removed the bricks from under in the cellar? You will need to pop one of them up if not both and clean all the crap out of that space between the 2 boards in order for them to relax back down over time. There is a lot of dirt accumulation in the crack. If you cannot get to the window with the big gap financially wise this winter put plastic over the window then put a sheet of plywood over it for the winter. Cheap fix but warmth in that room. Also to help warm it up in the whole house till you can get new windows put plastic over all the windows. I have lived in houses over 350 years old and the plastic did wonders! The one i am renting now is over 100 years old and i have the original windows so i put plastic over them during the cold months.
Emotional support ice cream was so relatable lol I love your videos! You and Phil seem like you would be so fun to hang out with. Glad to see sponsors rolling in for you too. Great work guys!
Thank you! I have a 100 y/o house with original floors (I think) and I know they need redone, last person to do the floors didn't fix them just added a layer of something that is now flaking off. But one of the bits of damage is a large bulge, I couldn't figure out what caused it (thought it might be water damage). It might be sitting on a brick wall, the wall pops away from the foundation for bay windows. I just put a coffee table over it so that the cats can look out the windows. Hopefully whoever I find to redo my floors can fix it without removing the foundation.
So glad the hurricane didn't end up being a major problem for you. Good idea to make a list and prioritize them, since you have such limited time before you have to be gone. Keep up the good work, you guys are doing amazing. So glad you had that pile of stone to help with the foundation. Have an amazing week!
Love your videos, first time seeing them today and that has been all afternoon long. I need a nap now just watching you is wearing me out. I absolutely love reno stories and videos and yours is the biggest one I have ever seen. Best wishes to you both. Welcome to NS.
That's pretty normal... that's basically why the quarter round was invented 🤣🤣 Allow for the natural expansion and contraction of wood without having a hideous gap!
I feel your pain on the moldy wet siding. Our old house the kit hen was an addition at some point in its history. The house itself set on a low foundation right on the ground. So when they did the kitchen addition, they slapped down another foundation that sat right on the ground and the eve of the roof poured water right into the corner along with massive amounts of oak leaves so the house always ha a problem in that corner with the bottom siding panel being moldy. We eventually snapped it down by 6"and sloped it down towards the side of the house so water would drain away. We also had to replace that section of the siding. Which was not easy to match. We did the best we could with what we could find at our local hardware store. This is before we had a Home Depot in our area. The joys of living in a small town community. Ironically the closet in the first bedroom didn't have a foundation. It hung off the side of the house. It was just a little 3x3 square so it wasn't that big. We didn't know it was just attached to the house until after our dog, who was a puppy at the time decided to did a hole right there that's when we discovered that it it didn't have a foundation under it. Speaking of dogs, Cannell's little Fiesta we so cute. That's the sign of a happy dog 😂 maybe she needs her own channel, Cannel the circus corgi 😜 with lots of circus corgi butt wiggles 😂😂
Our kitchen was also almost certainly an addition (albeit also very very old), and it is equally not on the same foundation as the rest of our house, and that has also created it's own set of fun challenges 🤪
Those outlet covers r really neat, but I'm wondering... Can u paint/decorate over them? Say, if u want them to blend into the walls a bit more? Because then I think they would be perfect!!! Ariel (Bassett??) just did an excellent and beautiful job of wallpapering over light covers in her last video and I just adore that concept, especially for older homes!! Keeps the vibe while keeping u safe!!
So glad to hear you weren't impacted! There are so so many things to correct here. Visiting friend said things like your mean comments, boasting of new built home.
It’s amazing to see you two discover the cause of so many problems! This is always better than covering the problem which looks like the previous owners did!!
I find you too amazing as you fix up your home. My Dad built our home when I was young & now both our sons are both in construction & computer IT plus. I'm fascinated by your videos.
FYI Your chimney cap needs another surround to hook to the bottom and cap the brick. Water will still come in. get some scrap tin or metal roofing and yes you can, just cut and bend a piece around it epoxy it to the brick make sure you angle the top piece away from center hole.
I, too, was passed by the drama gene and the constant pseudo-drama on tv and some channels here makes me crazy. I enjoy pages that are real and not over produced. You do a great job and I enjoy your content. I bought a 1928 farmhouse in Indiana so I sorta understand the issues with owning an old house but mine is a cake walk compared to what you're dealing with. I love that you jump in and get $hit done. Well done! (PS, your puppers is so stinkin' cute)
Fingers crossed for the gutters to be awesome. We invested in the closed top gutters a few years ago and they work very well. I was so glad that the baseboard did not hold a moldy gross surprise. It’s gonna look so good when you’re finished! ❤🤞
I would have adrenaline coming out of my ears if I had to leave in two days and had to rip off the siding! Hope you had great contract and not too much worries about the house while you were awary. Super impressed how you're doing all of it (I'm writing this from behind my comfy new triple glazing that we definitely didn't install ourselves....)
just ordered my first two-pack of snappower outlet covers--and, although they were already discounted by your coupon code and free shipping, i got them totally for free because of credit card points! :D it's so much fun when you and we both benefit by helping each other!
You guys are such a good team. You remind me of my husband and me a hundred years ago. We loved tackling what we didn’t think we could do. He was a master at just knowing that vision in my head. And I have been meaning to ask, where is Phil from?
Those odd brick walls in the basement could have expanded vertically due to absorbing moisture, forcing the flooring up, instead of the foundation settling. Thanks for the very interesting videos!
I remember helping a friend with an old house & we were taking the chimney down. I tried to use the wheel barrel to move the bricks 🧱. I wrecked & dumped the whole thing! 😂 It’s very heavy!
😅I'm exhausted just watching you, but you're on the right track. Keep moving forward. Watch out for the siding under the current. Most likely has asbestos.
Darn you two are wonderful and fairly well organized. I know you work in the circus but you’re amazing jugglers! Way too many balls in the air for me to handle! No matter the age or condition everyone wonders about the previous owners. Glad to see that you two were able to figure out workaround for now
Did not hear anything you said while watching corgi t-v. Only doggo. Magical floating houses are totally a thing. That inner brick wall is so interesting. I was really sad to lose our lovely original oak hardwood floors, but the house was VERY bouncy, so we had to do diagonal plank ties and then a new composite wood floor on top. The trampoline effect is officially gone now.
Interesting that they completely replaced it instead of using a combination of other well known techniques to stabilize bouncy floors... so sad for the oak hardwood 😢
@@ShannonMakes it was toast. Waved like the ocean where the old cast iron stove was, cracked, springing up in places, we could see the basement where the boards were cut to alleviate the bowing. We sistered all the beams below, put in 4 more jack posts, and then the diagonal boards on top. I do wish he had pulled the baseboards, but like yours, he installed the new floor butting up to the old baseboards & then put trim over the top of that (which IS a problem for Future Gail). What it did was stabilize the house against toddler & child feetzies, and helped the plaster walls stop crumbling every time someone moved. We will have to replace the lath & plaster eventually, but not this decade.
Love your channel. I live South Carolina and we are in what we call "hurricane season" which lasts from June 1st and ends Oct. 31st. We get a lot of hurricanes that form over the Atlsntic but peter out and goes back to sea. But once in a while, we get a big one. I also don't panic because we do have folks who evacuate and it can be a mess. Have a good contract😊😊😊

That's pretty normal... that's basically why the quarter round was invented 🤣🤣 Allow for the natural expansion and contraction of wood without having a hideous gap!
Well now I know how I’m going to spend the last half an hour at work today 😅 gotta love home office 😂
yay working from home!
So much quality corgi content, thank you! Also, it's such a relief to get answers to the mind-boggling questions of past building decisions.
The best corgi content on the platform!
Glad everyone is doing well! Thanks for sharing ❤
You are so welcome
Phil is so great!
As a rural dweller where outages are frequent enough, we invested in an automatic generator.
So glad to hear you weren't impacted! There are so so many things to correct here. Visiting friend said things like your mean comments, boasting of new built home.
It’s amazing to see you two discover the cause of so many problems! This is always better than covering the problem which looks like the previous owners did!!
True, true!
Multi tasking at its finest! Ice cream and to do lists- your energy and attitude are amazing xx
Fueled by nothing but the finest ice cream 🤣🤣
Y’all are the modern day “This Old House”. 😂
🥰🥰🥰
I find this content both so fascinating and satisfying. And I’m learning a lot!
Most excellent!!
I find you too amazing as you fix up your home. My Dad built our home when I was young & now both our sons are both in construction & computer IT plus. I'm fascinated by your videos.
Thank you! 🥰
FYI Your chimney cap needs another surround to hook to the bottom and cap the brick. Water will still come in. get some scrap tin or metal roofing and yes you can, just cut and bend a piece around it epoxy it to the brick make sure you angle the top piece away from center hole.
Cannelle, living her best life!🌬️🐕
absolutely!!
Good morning Shannon, I love watching you ❤❤😊😊
Thank you 🥰🫶
I’m so glad to see another video. You’re so relatable & refreshing. ❤Cannell.
Thank you 😃
rewatching once more right after the premiere :)
Awesome work again, thanks for the video.
I still hear it as "house it going?" at the end :)))
I mean, I kinda love that. I may start saying that now!!
Merch 😎 cups?
I, too, was passed by the drama gene and the constant pseudo-drama on tv and some channels here makes me crazy. I enjoy pages that are real and not over produced. You do a great job and I enjoy your content. I bought a 1928 farmhouse in Indiana so I sorta understand the issues with owning an old house but mine is a cake walk compared to what you're dealing with. I love that you jump in and get $hit done. Well done! (PS, your puppers is so stinkin' cute)
Thank you 🤗 (and yes, she's the besttttt!)
Fingers crossed for the gutters to be awesome. We invested in the closed top gutters a few years ago and they work very well. I was so glad that the baseboard did not hold a moldy gross surprise. It’s gonna look so good when you’re finished! ❤🤞
Yesss!
Thank you very much! 💜♥️
pack between stone with pieces of slate, you drive them in to pack, works with joists or RSJs
You guys are great so very hard working, love watching the two of you and the sweet sweet Corgi.
Thank you!! 🥰🫶
Always so interesting ! You and Phil are doing a great job and you have a great cheering section in your little Corgi pal!
Thank you 😃🐶
Ahh, purple hurricane light.
just ordered my first two-pack of snappower outlet covers--and, although they were already discounted by your coupon code and free shipping, i got them totally for free because of credit card points! :D it's so much fun when you and we both benefit by helping each other!
Ahhh, I love that! Credit card points are the best!!
You guys are such a good team. You remind me of my husband and me a hundred years ago. We loved tackling what we didn’t think we could do. He was a master at just knowing that vision in my head. And I have been meaning to ask, where is Phil from?
And the countdown! Yay!
Phil’s so cute! 😊
Cannelle is obviously loved and found a really good stinky place in which to roll!
Those odd brick walls in the basement could have expanded vertically due to absorbing moisture, forcing the flooring up, instead of the foundation settling. Thanks for the very interesting videos!
Step for step, it goes in the right way. 👍 💜
I remember helping a friend with an old house & we were taking the chimney down. I tried to use the wheel barrel to move the bricks 🧱. I wrecked & dumped the whole thing! 😂 It’s very heavy!
Yikes!
A few old homes in my town were jacked up and new foundation made. Pricy$$$$
Hope you can get yours sturdy.
😅I'm exhausted just watching you, but you're on the right track. Keep moving forward. Watch out for the siding under the current. Most likely has asbestos.
Love all the Corgi shots!!!
She's da best!
Was worried...so glad you suffered no more storm damage.
Godspeed,
Dee
California
Thank you 🥰
That original outlet cover is beautiful.
We have snappower lights in our house love them just added a motion sensor one near the bedroom
They are genuinely really fun... I get a little giggle every time I walk by and it turns on!
Thank you 🥰
I wish I was as flexible as Phil
