    So many times you'd do something to the painting and I'd think oh no, she's wrecked it, but then somehow it turned out so beautifully!

    Christine,
    You are so good that I cannot follow you. You slap on seemingly random watercolor and it becomes a beautiful painting and can't see how it's done! I've got to look at simpler instructions. I'll be back, though. You ARE good.

    Another fabulous portrait from you. You're the bomb! Sometime in the future, would you do a portrait of someone with light hair/blond, please? I was also wondering, do you consider yourself a fast painter and does that make a difference in painting portraits? I watch your videos over and over again hoping someday, I will be able to get as good as you are, I've got a looonnnggg way to go. Thanks for sharing.

    • @chkarron
      @chkarron  8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks Candy Kelly :) Will add the blond hair to my list! Fastness is not really something important in painting - in fact it is better to take the time and decide where to put the next right brush stroke and how. Fastness comes through confidence, and confidence comes through experience and lots of practise :)

    And what I mean by "good" is, you're great! This is the style I think of when I think of watercolor, my newly prefered and permanent medium. But it will take a while for me to learn this technique. May I ask how long it has taken you to master this technique. (And I'm talking about all your videos... well most of them, anyways. Especially this one and the eye).

      Hi there, thank you so much! Watercolor and pencil are my all time favourites as well :) I have been painting and drawing all my life (40+ years). Try not to compare your own work with other artists work, we all have subject we love to paint and subjects we are struggling/still learning, some of us have painted for a long time already, some just started - compare your work to your own previous work, and you'll see how it will get better and better with every piece you do! Try to do some fun pieces where you just play around with paint and watch what happens, and how the paint works on paper, on wet and dry, try to lift paint and add layers! Hope my videos inspire you to keep going and enjoy painting!

    • @chkarron
      @chkarron  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you! I haven't tried to paint with watercolor on canvas yet, but have seen artists doing it. But I have no idea how they do it :)

    Wow! Watching you work has given me new insights into color application and brushstrokes. Did you use ant lifting medium in the water you initially wetted the paper with?

    • @chkarron
      @chkarron  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      No, just water - I like the simple ways :) This paper is great for lifting technique! Thanks so much!

    Love the video, thanks for sharing! What kind of paper you are using? I feel 100% cotton paper is hard to lift after it get dry

      If you check under the video where it says "show more" Christine lists her materials. She uses, Strathmore Watercolor paper 140lb

      Hi Lu Cheng! Thank you, Candy Kelly :) yes, it is Strathmore watercolor paper. And that's true, Lu Cheng, it doesn't work the same on 100% cotton, like Arches. Works better on paper.

    wow! how did lift that ochre? isnt that a staining color?

    • @chkarron
      @chkarron  8 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      This paper is pretty good for lifting paint, and yes, it still stains a little, but because the rest of the painting is covered with strong saturated colors/values it looks like it's all off. Thank you!

    How does your painting stay so wet in the first half ? there are no hard edges at all or 'cauliflowers ', yet there is also no flooding

    • @chkarron

      I guess, because it was a pretty quick painting and continuing adding of paint. Thank you!
