Ok something to consider... "Citric Acid Complex" could mean that they don't actually have the exact same amount of citric acid. And the percentages could be equivalent because it's evened out by whatever else they include as part of this "complex." Hm... We'll never know for sure, but even so... I stand my ground on loving these affordable alternatives!
Actually the pH of the shampoo makes the biggest difference! When you bleach or damage hair, the normal pH of 4-5 (slighly acidic) gets more neutral to basic, and your hair is frizzier/drier/more rough. By using an acidic shampoo with pH 2-3, you can get the hair back to it's original pH, so less damaged. The citric acid in this shampoo makes it acidic. So it doesn't really matter if it's 7, 5 or 3%, the pH of the product is the most important.
I have checked the pH with pH paper of the redken treatment 14%, elvive treatment 12%, elvive conditioner 10%, elvive serum 20% they are all the same : around 5 like most of the product so I think it s more the property of the citric acid itself (the AHA itself) which works more than the pH thing because my moroccan oil masks have the same pH hahaha
Exactly! Plus, they know their market segments. They know some people will be loyal to Redken and/or high-end haircare because they believe it’s better, etc. Other people won’t or can’t pay those prices…but they’ll buy a “bond repair” product in the drugstore. So this way they capture these two market segments.
Totally. Reminds me of Deciem with their Niod vs Ordinary copper peptides serums... Clever on their part and great for consumers who want the same (or similar) solid technology but at a better price point.
Something to consider - A shampoo is to clean your hair, a conditioner is to condition it, a repair treatment is to repair it. If you are strapped for cash use a cheap shampoo and conditioner that works for your hair and a repair treatment. Shampoo is on and off your head so quick it's unlikely to do much repair.
I buy cheap shampoo, use good professional conditioner, when I can afford it, (otherwise in the meantime, use cheap conditioner) and must use good treatments, heat protection products, etc. The shampoo is there to remove the oils…at is all, and we rinse it off. The really magic comes, after, from styling my hair….shampoo and conditioner don’t do that…. I’m still waiting for (and wishing) there was shampoo and conditioners where you can just “wash and wear your hair”.
oh god yes! this has been so frustrating over the years, especially when you cannot find some brands in your country at all, not to mention certain products, I was super happy when I saw this video ^^
@AbbeyYung do you think you could a video with you favorite luxury and drugstore haircare products that are either European or that we can find on Europe ? I feel like so many of us would be SO happy to see a video like that from you! 😁
i’m a broke college student dyeing my hair at home and i noticed that it was getting kinda damaged, so i started using the l’oréal ever pure bond strengthener line because it was the absolute cheapest “bond repair” products i saw - I’ve never used the more expensive stuff but I’m pretty happy with the results. I’m happy there’s an affordable product for bond repair, everyone used to tell me to use olaplex I was like “lol i don’t have the money!” anyways i’m glad this video confirmed that i don’t need to spend so much more to get good results!
@@AbbeyYungawesome comment, but I have one question about the bond repair. Does it matter or damage my hair if I use it as a leave in conditioner ? Please please please respond 😢
As a hairstylist who is certified by Redken on my country, we were teached that Redken creates the formulas. They have the rights for a period of time and after that period, they "share" the formula to the "cheaper" brands of them so they modify them to have similar results but using just some % of the original formula so like that the "high end brand (aka Redken)" will always have a better product. That made sense to me when they explain to me and never questioned until now that I'm thinking about haha. Anyway... that make sense to me until now :) since they are the same company anyway
For Canadians: the L’Oréal Elvive is simply called “Bond Repair”. The packaging and ingredients are the same as the “European Elvive” line, same size/colors/labelling , just without the Elvive on the packaging. It’s available at Walmart, Shoppers and London Drugs etc.
The L'oreal Elvine line has actually also a Leave-In serum, which is the only thing I bought from this series because it has 20% of citric acid in it. It gives you a sticky feeling at first but after a few minutes it makes your hair quite pretty. Also I think (or I'd like to think) that my hair is stronger since I use it but maybe that's just me dreaming 😅
Duping themselves I hear is very common for L’Oréal as then they benefit all around, rather than leaving that market up to another brand. Great work thank you for the review :)
This is the comparison video I need! I'm half way through my Redken ABC range and I love it. But, I love money even more - the fact that the treatment is pretty much identical to the Ever Pure is wild. The price difference is massive. I'll be sticking with the shampoo and conditioner, but definitely reaching for the Ever Pure when my current redken treatment runs out. Thanks Abbey!
OMG! I'm Polish, live in London and wished you reviewed those! Thank you soo much! You're my go-to hair Goddess! I have been spreading the word about your channel for years now! I highly appreciate you! Especially, because you're extremely transparent, you question things that you've previously stated and always give an update on them, sometimes you say "I've said it before, I was wrong, I'm constantly learning". This is why I trust you! ❤ Ps. Sexual makeup names-Jheeez, I highly relate to your opinion 😅🎉
Citric acid removes buildup and is commonly used in clarifying shampoos, but there is no supporting evidence that it strengthens the hair, but it does help smooth the cuticle and adjust the pH levels in the hair.
The theory is that it bonds with the hair where water world normally bond and makes the hair water-resistant by extension. The hair can absorb or attached to water in the presence of alpha hydroxy acids. And we know that hair that has less hydration is considered looking and feeling more healthy.
Ive been using European line,L’oreal Elvive Bond Repair for more than 6 months, and its amazing. I have hip length, thick dark brown hair and I colored it more often in the past, now maybe 2x a year.it feels like I never colored it. My hair feels like there is no damage,my scalp feels amazing, clean, and it doesn’t grease. I wash my hair every 6 or 7 days. Im gonna keep using this line, its phenomenal. I also use Gisou hair mask,Gisou hair oil,and one other heavier oil by Schwarzkopf Gliss Oil Nutritive Oil Elixir. Thats it.
L’Oréal Elvive is available in Australia. I have very curly hair and have just started using it. I think L’Oreal are smart as they are covering all budgets, high, medium and and affordable.
Im pretty sure this new bond repair line by Elvive is the same Loreal Fiberceutic, an AMAZING line that is pretty much the precursor of Olapex/current bond treatments. It would literally revive dead hair from the abyss in the first use hahaha. Right after Olaplex came Loreal discontinued this line to focus on updating the formulas of the pre existing professional lines and now are relaunching it with a different name for the final consumer. I used to work with them and I’m really familiar with the old Fiberceutic. The smell, texture, ingredients and results of this new Bond Repair line are extremely similar to the Fiberceutic one.
I have used the redken acidic bonding and the loreal ever pure bond strengthening...i also dye my hair natural and fantasy colors with permanent and semi permanent dyes and my hair is naturally curly. I can 100% say that redken gives me the best results, it leaves my hair feeling soft and healthy, it had very little bleeding of hair color whether its permanent or semi permanent, and the leave in treatment they have is 100% to die for. While the loreal ever pure left my hair feeling heavy, and a mixture of dry/greasy all over. It also caused a lot more color bleeding when using the products which was a huge shocker for me.a As for the loreal elvive I have not used it but their products have always left my hair soft and like a weaker version of redken, but only issue is it does cause more bleeding than redken. Honestly I wish we could get the loreal elvive here in the us as its usually cheaper than redken and would possibly be good if i added some of the semi permanent color im using into it to fight the color bleeding/loss. Thanks for the video though 100% didn't know about the elvive one
I live in Austria and i bought the elvive one because the everpure was not available here. I compared the ingredients of everpure and elvive after a comment under your videos and i am glad i got it. The only thing is that the elvive conditioner is very small.
The L'Oreal EverPure Bond Strengthening PreShampoo has 99% of the same ingredients of the Redken line. The single only difference in ingredients is the fragrance used. L'Oreal EverPure includes hydroxycitronellal, which is often used in perfumes. I'd call that a dupe.
I would love to see a comparison on the L'Oréal Elvive Dream Lengths Shampoo and Conditioner vs. L'Oréal Elvive Bond Repair I feel like they've got a lot of the same damage repairing ingredients but personally I adore how the Dream Lengths line makes my hair feel much more !
Dream legths has ingredients like amodimethicone that coats your hair and gives immediate results(which is also great). Bond repair products work over time gradually rebuilding broken bonds in your hair. Best strategy is to do a bond repair treatment 1-2 times a week alongside your regular products. I don't think comparing these 2 lines makes sense as they have a different function in your routine.
I used dream lengths entire line for years and I still do occasionally. But last 6 months Ive been using the entire Elvive Bond repair line and its amazing. It actually helped repair damage and I think it was even better for my hair than Dream Lenghts. My hair is thick, hip length, and these two lines help me keep it healthy and I wouldn’t change them. Dream lengths is very nice for dry hair I think. The Elvive Bond repair line needs a good mask after using the shampoo and conditioner I think. Thats what I do. I follow up with either XXL fiber mask from Dream Lenghts collection,or I use Gisou mask.
Gosh, I just love you and your channel! Thank you for all of the work you do to bring us the real truth. I started using the Redken conditioner because of your recommendation. LOVE it! I haven't tried the shampoo because I had been using Redken's Biotin shampoo (which I also love ) and still have lots left. I buy the biggest bottle with the pump to save $. When that is finally gone I will try the AB shampoo for sure. I tried The L'Oreal EP shampoo & conditioner and really didn't care for it much. I haven't tried any of the pre-shampoos but if they are dupes I may just grab an EP at the drugstore to try. It's taken me several years to find a group of products that work consistently for me. I think I'm almost there! Got to add I also use Living Proof Triple Bond weekly and Living Proof PHD on other days. Keep up the good work!
After you recommended the L’Oréal ever pure bond repair line, I started using it, but also noticed that my hair would become greasy more quickly. I now pair it with the Kristin Ess clarifying shampoo. I don’t currently own the pre shampoo treatment, but after using the conditioner, I often use the Elizavecca CER-100 that you have also recommended. This combo definitely leaves my hair feeling great! I appreciate all the honest advice you give and incredible products you share with us!
You've got to try L'Oreal Paris Elvive Hyaluron Plump Hydrating shampoo and conditioner! I'm so blown away on how clean and hydrated my hair stays for a few days. I like the strengthening Bond set but sometimes I feel like it's too heavy for my hair.
Since we’ve talking about L’oreal a lot lately, I’ve been using their Elvive repairing line, the black one with yellow cap, and let me tell you ITS AMAZING. It leaves my hair feeling soft and helps with frizz. I’ve used expensive lines like the Redken extreme and Davines, and the L’OREAL one has been the one that’s worked for me the most. Would love to try the ever pure.
@@fernandaruelas3443 i have fine curly frizzy hair, where I live weather and hard water play a huge part in the frizz factor. I’ve used Elvive for about 2 years now and it leaves my hair feeling very manageable and healthy. A few months ago I started using the everpure bond repair shampoo and it’s really good too, only complaint with that one is that since it’s sulfate free, it’s not the best at really cleansing, I have an oily scalp and my hair starts to look greasy 2 days after washing.
In Canada we have a new line called L’Oréal Hair Expertise and it has the exact same ingredients in the the exact same order as the Elvive line. The packaging is almost identical. 🥰
I bought the whole European line (after finding it suspiciously similar) the day before you said you’d be comparing them and so far I’m very happy with them and glad that you reassured my opinion
Can you talk more about why critic acid is beneficial for the hair and if there are pros and cons to consider, like for colored or keratin treated hair? 🙏
I'm glad you did this video! 😀I was just eyeing the Elvive bond repair the other day and thinking if it was some sort of dupe 👀... L'Oreal did a similar thing with Kérastase Extentioniste-line, where they created similar dupes for both Redken (extreme length) and Elvital/Elvive (Full Resist). I also find the whole citric acid hype a bit funny. Like, Garnier Fructis was on it waaay back! 😅 Looking at the surfactants used 🤔out of the three shampoos, L'Oreal Elvive should be the most clarifying one. Sodium c14-16 olefin sulfonate is what makes it easily foam up and is used in many "sulfate-free" clarifying shampoos. As well as having cocamide betaine, which is another more clarifying surfactant. So I'm a bit surprised that you say that it didn't feel deep cleansing, especially when it had the lighter texture of them all. But know that both of those are able to break down silicones.
Hey! Great video! I am sort of new to your channel. I am Black and have kinky hair. My hair has been doing a lot better since I've been following some of the tips on your channel. Also I love that you feature black owned brands as well. I'm definitely going to try the L'Oreal and see how my hair does
Stylist here 🙋♀️ going into the summer, be careful about using a Citric acid heavy product line, it can contribute to lightening in a similar way to using lemon juice and sun-in. While some people love the idea of this "side effect" but it kind of burns away the exterior layer of the hair and get future inconsistent color results.
As a hairstylist I found this really interesting. I haven’t used drug store products in a really long time. I knew L’Oréal owned a lot of brands. I didn’t know it owned Redken. I love this line by Redken. It’s expensive even with my discount! I am trying out Maria Nila now. It’s a Swedish line. You may have tried it. It’s new here. Im liking it a lot:)
Considering I've never seen the bond strengthening line over here in germany, I am super glad we have something affordable that seems to be a pretty good option, especially as a college student with not a lot of money to spare atm I recently got the bond repair line (inluding serum) and I am super happy, my hair was super soft when I used all four together, despite it being color treated ^^
Thank you for reviewing and comparing all of them. In Germany we don’t have L’Oréal EverPure line. But we have L’Oréal Elvital Bond repair line. And it’s new here, appears in drugstores 3 months ago. And the price is very low about 3-5€ and it’s sold out almost everywhere. People love it. But the fragrance is very strong and it’s stays for days. I personally don’t like it. And still prefer Redken. My favorite ever brand! It’s hard to find it in stores, but u can easily find it online 🎉
Wup Deutschland! Ich hab soooo drauf gehofft das jemand mal redken und L'Oréal vergleicht 🙈 der dm bei uns (Nähe nbg) hat mega viel L'Oréal elvital Produkte zum Glück 🙈
@@Clippundclara Ok. I’m from Berlin and noticed that the same drugstores in different city areas can have different prices for the same products. Also don’t forget to use coupons for sale. In My local rossmann they specifically have them for that hairline.
I live in New Zealand and have just noticed this Elvive bond repair line on our supermarket shelves, I instantly thought of you and wondered if you had reviewed this line so here i am today to check, and boom of course you have! thank you! **adds to shopping trolley**
I would love to see you review the new Redken Acidic Bonding Concentrate lightweight liquid conditioner! It’s a spray in, rinse out conditioner for fine hair!
I had actually had a little oops with over coloring my hair a couple times and it was breaking in little tiny pieces on the ends. I know my hair well and honestly a trim would have taken care of this. Well I started using loreal bond repair shampoo and conditioner in the light pink bottles for two weeks…no more tiny pieces of hair were coming off in the shower. That’s basically all the proof I needed and also your videos helping confirm this 😊
I personally agree with you. I would use a Clarifying shampoo to cleanse everything, then probably skip to the conditioners. I think alot of shampoos are there for people who are creatures of habit and want a matching shampoo, when truth be told, it's just going to be washed out anyways. A shampoos job is supposed to be for cleaning off build up.
The Elvive line also has a leave in with 20% of their citric acid complex, and it's honestly my favourite of the line- leaves my hair so soft and free of tangles !
Hi Abbey ❤, I was waiting to see if you were going to do a review of this line and here it is (😊) The Ever Pure Line isn't sold here in the UK I have purchased the Redkin Line on Lookfantastic which I'm currently using. I can purchase the Bond Repair Line in the UK and it was so helpful to here your thoughts thank you so so much 💕.
Hi Abbey, oh my goodness, that L’Oréal line is incredible ❤ like I’m obsessed with it all! I’m a huge spender on hair care overall & was crazy surprised how AMAZING & soft Ever pure left my hair!!!! 🎉 THANK YOU, for saving me money!
I actually prefer the light consistency of L'Oréal Elvive conditioner because of my hairtype (North Europe, Finland aka land of people with 10 hairs on their scalp lol)! Also the leave in treatment is THE BOSS. It makes the biggest difference to me 😊 Supeeeer soft and silky finish. Thanks for the video ❤
I just want to say this as the MOST educational video Abit bond repair and product review and Inam grateful for the research you have put in. Thank you for sharing. I have made my decision on which I will buy bc of this video!❤
I have used Redken's ABC for 7 months and then switched to L'Oreal for one month. Couldn't wait to switch back as my hair was lifeless, dry and frizzy on dupe L'Oreal. Cannot even compare the quality, my hair is back to its shiny and soft self now on Redken. Yes, L'Oreal was much cheaper however the quality and results just weren't what I expected. I also use K18 and it is amazing! Redken & K18 fan forever.
My thick hair was literally fried by the hairdresser and I was in desperate need to bring them back to life. Due to previous expensive mistakes i ordered a few redken acidic bonding product samples to try out first and was impressed with them so much that I went to Boots to buy it. In the store I thought that I'd check what's available in the drugstore section and found loreal citric acid bonding line. I compared the ingredient lists and they were actually very similar so I decided to purchase the elvive entire line instead of redken's. It's excellent and produced on my hair similar effects to the redken for a fraction of the price.
I've been using the L'Oreal EverPure Bond Strengthening Shampoo & Condtioner for a couple of months now and I love them! I will be picking up the treatment soon as well, especially knowing that it is basically identical to the Redken one!
The L’Oréal Elvive range is the one we can get in Australia - I’ve been loving it! Originally went out looking for the ever pure which we don’t have but stumbled upon the elvive range. 🎉
I’m sure L’Oréal is basically repackaging the Redken pre-shampoo treatment and hitting both markets .. I use and love the L’Oréal everpure one - and plus it smells absolutely amazing to me ..
Just bought the Everpure Bond Strengthening shampoo and conditioner today, before I saw your video. I have fine, highlighted, and very long hair. I loved the way it smelled, and I’m letting my hair air dry, so I’ll have to wait to see how it looks. But it felt soft and very easy to comb after my shower. I’ll probably stick to the dupes because, even though I really like Redken, I’m tired of the price.
I just recently started using high end hair products and got the entire Redken bond line. So far, so good but wow it sure is expensive comparing to drugstore. I’m excited to see how those compare. Thanks
I’ve used Redken citric acid collection before and loved it and the scent is amazing. After watching this I’ve decided to buy the ever pure collection because of the price. I will splurge on the redken leave in conditioner. I can’t wait to use them!
Abbey, you are an angel for this comparison! I just moved country and had to leave all my hair product and I desperately needed a good product with a very low budget. Here I found the elvive one and bought the pre-shampoo one. Tried today and loved it!
Great video! THANK YOU 🙏🙏🙏 Started using the L’oreal Elvive line on my extremely damaged long hair (literally thought i would have to cut 20cms off 😢) but its been absolutely amazing and really helped me so much. Used to use the L’oreal proffesional absolute repair which is more expensive but honestly wasnt doing much for my hair at all. Excited to try the other ones and compare 😌
this is sold in Canada, too (makes sense, since some European sunscreen filters are sold here too, but not in the US). Loreal Bond repair is always selling out here.. hard to find the shampoo, and have never seen the pre-shampoo treatment. So, it's good we also have a similar line. Did you know they also have a hair serum with 20% citric acid complex? I've only just started using it, so not sure what the results are. Thanks for the comparison video!
Can you please do a video on what to do AFTER you wash your hair? I get confused by which sprays and leave-in treatments and heat protectants to do and in which order to apply!
I love that you did this comparison, it was very interesting. I've wanted to try the redken line I just haven't gotten to it yet but good thing because this has been very helpful and I'll now do some mixing. Redken shampoo with the everpure conditioner and treatment. 💜
I'm from Europe and I can easily find them at my local store 😝 one of them had a special offer too! For now I got the conditioner and my first impression was positive! I would love to find the US version somewhere! The only thing I dislike about the Redken line is that it is not entirely humidity proof on me, just a couple of rain drops and hair looks like a mess, for some reason the Elvive conditioner left my hair more disciplined and sleek 🤷🏻♀️
L'ORÉAL PARiS ELVITAL Shampoo Dream Length also contains Amodimethicone. It is my favourite ingredient. But I use it rather in my conditioner or leave in milk. I feel it is more effective and more beneficial for my hair.
The Elvive line is available in Australia, and I've been using it on my scalp-bleached hair for a few months now. I had a "eureka!" moment when I realised that L'Oreal owns Redken, so the Elvive product was going to have the same ingredient for a much lower price. Yes, the Redken packaging is much nicer, and yes, the Redken products "feel" and smell better, but if you're in it for the bonding, you shouldn't care. The 20% leave-in mask is my favourite in the whole Elvive line.
Can you do a video on how to figure out what your hair needs as far as this line vs. K18? I know that too much protein will make your hair break, too much moisture will make it limp, etc. But with this new technology, how do we pick one or both?
Thank you so much for this much anticipated vid, Abbey! ❤️ I was one of those asking for a deep dive into the ingredients of these products! 😅 Thanx to you I tried the Redken products & it was love at first wash! I also bought the Elvive products but haven’t tried them yet. 😅 But I’m looking forward to doing it in the near future! ☺️ Lots of love & hugs from Denmark! ❤️😘
I just returned the Omniplex because it was too expensive and the bottle was ridiculous small. I'm actually now using the pre-shampoo brand (Bond Bar)from Sally's Beauty Supply, but with Loreal Elvive Hydrating shampoo & conditioner. My hair was getting horribly dry, brittle and very tangeled because of my pre-menopausal hormone issues, and especially with those shampoos & conditioners that don't have any sulfates & silicones. My hair, after getting it highlighted needed some TLC, so my go-to is the Bond Bar pre-shampoo (leave it on for 12 minutes with a plastic shower cap), then shampoo and condition. Leave the conditioner on for at least five minutes too. You'd be shocked at how much this has helped. I can now run a comb through my hair with ease and I have extremely thick, shoulder-length hair.
If you're more sensitive to fragrance, you might find you react to L'Oreal's "Bond Repair Rescue Pre-Shampoo Treatment". I've tried it twice and it gives me a big headache after...I personally don't react to Pantene's volume shampoo (the most clarifying one) that Abbey often talks about or Redken's "Acidic Bonding Concentrate" conditioner.
I'm thinking of trying the Elvive Bond Repair line but I'm confused with the 2 shampoos and 1 conditioner. So let's watch the video first to clear this confusion and then decide if it's something for me. The drugstore has this 1+1 free deal for this line pretty often since it released.
Question- since you say to actually use the pre-shampoo after you shampoo, are you using it as a conditioner? Or shampooing, using the pre-shampoo, washing it out and then conditioner? Thanks!! Great video!
And the Garnier Fructis has 15% - almost the exact same ingredients in the same order. Also owner by L’Oreal. It’s actually quite common for the big umbrella brands to have their higher end lines roll out a product / new ingredient and then slowly have it move through their other lower priced brands, since they own the patents. They will be packaged differently and each will target different market segments. So the Redkin is the high end, will have the highest % of actives and better non-actives.
I love how this line of redken smells, but the shampoo makes my hair oily super fast but the conditioner is AMAIZING. my mom tried the ever pure line and the shampoo also makes her hair super oily. we both have normal to oily scalp. What I do is I use the K18 Shampoo and the redken ABC conditioner. but right now, I'm trying the Redken clarifying shampoo with the this redken ABC conditioner and it's ok, but I like a lot better the K18.
no, it's actually a really good strategy from a marketing/sales POV, you have the market for the people who can afford the higher quality ingredients and higher concentrations + lots more marketing (like the publicity yes, but also, packaging, shipping, etc) AND they also have the market for the people who want good results but either can't afford the higher end product or just don't want to spend that much money and don't care to have lower concentrations or a dupe ingredient that will do the job too but probably won't be as fast or as impactful sorta, they have the money coming from all places
My hair is doing the same thing right now. I can't even get it to hold a heated curl! I think it's because my scalp is sweating at night now that the weather is warmer? You're so lovely, I doubt anyone can tell except you 💕
Canadian here we have the L'oreal Elvive Bond Repair but here it is called L'Oreal Bond Repair and it has all the same ingredients but made in Montréal Canada
Came in the comment to look for this. Yep. Same exact white and holo packaging. I'm testing them, I got my hair bleached recently and I need some repairs. I got the pre shampoo and the leave in serum (20% bond repair complex). All I can say for now is they smell nice, a soft crisp rosy floral.
Thanks so much for this video, Abbey! I decided to splurge for the Redken shampoo and save on the L'Oreal treatment and conditioner. I use the shampoo and then the treatment as you suggested and it works great. 😊
If you watch Lab Muffin, she has a Ph.d in chemistry and is a cosmetic chemist you will learn the percentage of an active ingredient is not telling as to how it performs. Formulation is everything. Pretreatment is called a pretreatment for a reason, to be used before you flood your hair cuticles with water. You are missing the point of these products. Redkin is strong enough to bond to hair through any oil or dirt, no worries. DO NOT FLOOD YOUR HAIR WITH WATER AND THEN APPLY A PRETREATMENT. THESE ARE NOT DESIGNED FOR THIS AND YOU WILL BE DUMPING MONEY DOWN THE DRAIN. It is nothing new for a company to make products targeted for different market share and price points. L'Oreal is owned by ESTEE LAUDER.
I've been using the L'oreal system for about a month it is making a HUGE difference in my hair. I'm in the process of growing my natural out. I have about 3 inches of old, dry, bleached hair at the bottom and it now holds a curl after washing. I legit feel reborn.
Hi Abby! I love ur vids! I especially love all of your recommendations for drugstore products. You are the only utuber I trust to tell us the truth nowadays lol. Anyways I was debating which L’Oréal bond repair line I should get and I was wondering if you could give your thoughts and opinions on which one you felt was the best on your hair (no pressure or anything)❤😊
The Redken line reminds me of Christmas tree smell 😂 I would love to see what you think of the Bumble and bumble bond building treatment! I used up a sample and I really enjoyed it! Wondering how it would compare to K18
I was searching for some products on Amazon and I found that L'Oreal has a Professional line of hair products. They look pretty good so I wonder what you think about them. I have the L'Oreal EverPure Bond Repair line on my to get list as soon as I use up some of the massive amounts of hair products I already have. Since I only wash 2-3 times per week, I could almost go a couple of years w/o buying anything else. Thank you so much for providing such valuable information to us. Give Elsie a good scratch behind the ears. 🐕
If your hair is not behaving as it normally does, it may be you are using the Redken products, they tend to weigh your hair down. Use your regular shampoos to remove that buildup(?) and your hair will be back to normal. I think these shampoos should only be used when your hair is very damaged and in need of repair. Otherwise, you are just overloading it.
This is the "modus operanti" from L'Oréal group. They launch lines with the same aprouch in kerastase elvive, redken and loreal professionel. Usualy with one year from one lauch to the other. Exemple they launch pro longer them launch long and strong and them launch extreme length. Same with curl expression them curl manifesto. If you go deep you will see that the heroes ingredients are similar too curl expression have glicerin and hibiscus seed (aminoacids) wile curl manifesto have manuka honey that is umectant and ceramide that act in the structure like aminoacids.
When I lived in Norway (I’m American) I thought it was pretty odd that H&M sold drugstore haircare products and makeup, like it was a whole section of the stores. Might be why you can get it at PLT and Boohoo, etc.
Heat less curls don't work as well on silky healthy hair as they do on bleached hair I have found. You may have to use some sort of styling product with hold in it.
L’Oréal bond repair is also in Canada! It’s great. I’ve compared the ingredients are they are almost identical to Redken lol well when it comes to the pre treatment and conditioner. So similar.
So I have tried the Redken line and the L’Oréal Ever pure. I do agree on the shampoo that I get a better wash with the Redken. The L’Oréal I am greasy after day 2, which stinks. I did follow up with a clarifying shampoo to get a cleaner feeling. I do like the L’Oréal obviously in terms of price , but Redken has my vote as well. The treatments as you said, same ingredients and I don’t really care for either. But the shampoo and conditioner is nice. Thanks for the review as always
It’s actually very reasonable that L’Oréal went with dupe for their own products. Let’s consider haircare business as a cake. Redken is a professional brand, which holds the % of hair professional market + online stores. L’Oréal is a drugstore brand which owns % of home haircare products. And we have two types of clients: these which buys pro and high ends and these who can only afford drugstores. Creating the lines for drugstores L’Oréal prevents other brands to do so before them and takes huge piece of cake of the drugstore clients. Otherwise drugstore clients will find a dupe elsewhere from other small (cheaper) company. Now they can buy L’Oréal which is everywhere and the company has either Redken fans and dupe searchers in their client base. Double win.🎉
Do you have the feeling that the drugstore dupe is more watered down ?
😮😮A
Actually the pH of the shampoo makes the biggest difference!
Would it make my red dyed hair fade even faster than normal? X
That’s actually a very genius move by a brand. Why let someone else dupe your own high end product? lol love that for them
Exactly! Plus, they know their market segments. They know some people will be loyal to Redken and/or high-end haircare because they believe it’s better, etc. Other people won’t or can’t pay those prices…but they’ll buy a “bond repair” product in the drugstore. So this way they capture these two market segments.
My thoughts exactly. And they can use similar enough ingredients to satisfy some people while controlling the marketing of both
right!? marketing genius
Yes very smart cus redken and loreal dont have the same demografic so you are bringing a product you already kinda formulated to a new market
Common sense.
That is what I do, cheap shampoo, cheap conditioner with silicones, but good hair mask
AHHH SO MUCH APPRECIATION that you included a European line!
Same here!😢
UGH I wish we could all have the same things y'all have so many things I want too lol
our legislation is actually much better, so stick to what's in Europe
oh god yes! this has been so frustrating over the years, especially when you cannot find some brands in your country at all, not to mention certain products, I was super happy when I saw this video ^^
@AbbeyYung do you think you could a video with you favorite luxury and drugstore haircare products that are either European or that we can find on Europe ? I feel like so many of us would be SO happy to see a video like that from you! 😁
For once something is cheaper and more available in Europe! The elvive range is about 8$ a pop here, going to get them now! Thanks 👏👏🙏🏼🙏🏼💞💞
WOW that's amazing
@@AbbeyYung same in Australia. $8 on special!
There are lots of things that are cheaper in Europe. Mobile phone services, for example.
@@jsmitala89where can we get the evere pure tho? Elvive bond repair might be 8 dollars on special but the ever pure bond line is impossible to find
@@laural.a9934it's not European that's why we can't find it here
i’m a broke college student dyeing my hair at home and i noticed that it was getting kinda damaged, so i started using the l’oréal ever pure bond strengthener line because it was the absolute cheapest “bond repair” products i saw - I’ve never used the more expensive stuff but I’m pretty happy with the results. I’m happy there’s an affordable product for bond repair, everyone used to tell me to use olaplex I was like “lol i don’t have the money!” anyways i’m glad this video confirmed that i don’t need to spend so much more to get good results!
Yay!!!
Do you feel like you need to recolor more frequently using a product with citric acid?
I don’t. I color about every 2 1/2 months. Love my hair bond products.
@@AbbeyYungawesome comment, but I have one question about the bond repair. Does it matter or damage my hair if I use it as a leave in conditioner ? Please please please respond 😢
@@frizzygrizzy25if it’s not meant to be used as a leave in, don’t use it as a leave in product
In Germany it's called Bond Repair too 🤔
Yes and most of the time at Shoppers Drug Mart they're always on sale
Thank you so much for this info! ❤
In Germany Elvive is "Elvital"
Hi. In France, the line is called Elsève 😀
I use the pre-shampoo and the serum. My natural waves are 100 % back to their natural state, my hair looks better...
OK SOLD ! Gonna get them very soon
How is it called? Is that spray one in a purple-pinkish bottle?

Duping themselves I hear is very common for L’Oréal as then they benefit all around, rather than leaving that market up to another brand. Great work thank you for the review :)
I feel like L’Oréal dupes themselves with makeup too. A year or two after they release a great Lancôme product, a drugstore L’Oréal version comes out.

@@sarahwarman3200 I've seen them on sale, however, not such a great one! Thank you soo much! Now I think that I will definitely purchase them 😁🥰
Omg thank you so much!! ❤ and RIGHT Keep it in the bedroom lol
I’m from London too do we only have the elvive bond repair and not ever pure ?
@@fc-oh9dq Unfortunately, yes ;(
Citric acid removes buildup and is commonly used in clarifying shampoos, but there is no supporting evidence that it strengthens the hair, but it does help smooth the cuticle and adjust the pH levels in the hair.
Overall what products would you recommend to healthy haired women who get individually knotted hair strands and split ends?
I have used the redken acidic bonding and the loreal ever pure bond strengthening...i also dye my hair natural and fantasy colors with permanent and semi permanent dyes and my hair is naturally curly.
I can 100% say that redken gives me the best results, it leaves my hair feeling soft and healthy, it had very little bleeding of hair color whether its permanent or semi permanent, and the leave in treatment they have is 100% to die for.
While the loreal ever pure left my hair feeling heavy, and a mixture of dry/greasy all over. It also caused a lot more color bleeding when using the products which was a huge shocker for me.a
As for the loreal elvive I have not used it but their products have always left my hair soft and like a weaker version of redken, but only issue is it does cause more bleeding than redken.
Honestly I wish we could get the loreal elvive here in the us as its usually cheaper than redken and would possibly be good if i added some of the semi permanent color im using into it to fight the color bleeding/loss.
Thanks for the video though 100% didn't know about the elvive one
You can on boho and pretty little thing
@@harrietxo2310 i have heard bad things about those sites so im hesitant to use them.
That’s exactly what she said
I would love to see a comparison on the L'Oréal Elvive Dream Lengths Shampoo and Conditioner vs.
I use the elvive total repair 5. I tried them all even the extreme repair doesn't work for me as good as the regular repair 5
Would love to buy the elizavecca hair mask, except it has pig contains and it’s against my beliefs 💔💔
You've got to try L'Oreal Paris Elvive Hyaluron Plump Hydrating shampoo and conditioner! I'm so blown away on how clean and hydrated my hair stays for a few days. I like the strengthening Bond set but sometimes I feel like it's too heavy for my hair.
It is a really good dupe for Redken in the pink bottle.
Recently bought it! Will be reviewing
The miscellar water is also very good!
Omg yes!! That line is amazing for frizz! I love it, but am also curious as to how these new lines compare so I might have to give it a try
freeze?
What would you say your hair is like?
@@fernandaruelas3443 i have fine curly frizzy hair, where I live weather and hard water play a huge part in the frizz factor. I’ve used Elvive for about 2 years now and it leaves my hair feeling very manageable and healthy. A few months ago I started using the everpure bond repair shampoo and it’s really good too, only complaint with that one is that since it’s sulfate free, it’s not the best at really cleansing, I have an oily scalp and my hair starts to look greasy 2 days after washing.
Is your hair thin and curly?
In Canada we have a new line called L’Oréal Hair Expertise and it has the exact same ingredients in the the exact same order as the Elvive line. The packaging is almost identical. 🥰
then it must be the same under a different name, as a European person I see it all the time throughout different countries
Looking at the surfactants used 🤔out of the three shampoos, L'Oreal Elvive should be the most clarifying one.
Omg I’m scared
Do you have a sun protector leave in to recommand ?
That’s why they have the Ever pure line. It’s the colour safe system. They really thought it out very well.
I'll have to check it out!
@@AbbeyYung I’m loving the shampoo for colored hair. And it smells so good. Will pick up the conditioner this week probably:)
They also own Pureology, Matrix, Kerastase & a few others, which was surprising to me!
I see the products regularly at my local rossmann! But the price isn't quite right, they range from 6-10€
Wup Deutschland! Ich hab soooo drauf gehofft das jemand mal redken und L'Oréal vergleicht 🙈 der dm bei uns (Nähe nbg) hat mega viel L'Oréal elvital Produkte zum Glück 🙈

So much for the "all types 0f hair" claim they made for the conditioner originally
OMG looking into this!!

I’d love it if Abbey did a review of all of L’oreals different leave ins (dream lengths, total repair, sleek sprays, etc.)
Hi.! Which L'Oreal did you switch to? Was it the Ever Pure one ?
Same as in New Zealand which makes sense - no Ever Pure range
I’m ready for Loreal ever pure to come with a “dupe” of the redken acidic leave in
This video just clarified that the ever pure bond strengthening pre shampoo treatment is an exact dupe
I’m sure L’Oréal is basically repackaging the Redken pre-shampoo treatment and hitting both markets .. I use and love the L’Oréal everpure one - and plus it smells absolutely amazing to me ..
Now that summer is approaching can we get a video on your fave tiented sunscreens? 🌞
Thanks
I picked up the conditioner and it makes my hair feel so soft and smooth and it looks healthy , I love it thank you for putting me on
I’ve used Redken citric acid collection before and loved it and the scent is amazing. After watching this I’ve decided to buy the ever pure collection because of the price. I will splurge on the redken leave in conditioner. I can’t wait to use them!
The Elvive Dream lengths shampoo is a good alternative, it contains amodimethicone and citric acid
Everpure isn't available in the UK, so I'll stick with the Redken.
I rotate it with olaplex and k18
I've purchased the L'Oreal ever pure around 3 times. So i really like it!
L'ORÉAL PARiS ELVITAL
Shampoo Dream Length also contains Amodimethicone.
I love your analysis over these products, you really try to hit at a more scientific approach compared to other youtube videos.
Thank you for including an European one ❤
Walmart carries the L'Oreal Everpure line at a much lower price than Ulta.
This hair color suits you sooo much
We have the Elvive at drugstores in Canada. At least where I live. I’m actually surprised it’s not readily available in the states.
You're so lovely, I doubt anyone can tell except you 💕
Your makeup looks amazing!! Could you please do a tutorial on this makeup look? 🙏🏼😍
it is very similar to Kerastase which is also L'oréal
I have the elvive leave-in conditioner in my rotation and have been using it for the past year or two. It doesn't weigh my hair down and i love it!
Just bought the L’Oréal Everpure Set and the treatment. Thank god for your videos cuz I really don’t have redken money right now.
So similar.
Where did you find it?🇨🇦
@@sandybrand3230 Amazon has it for like $9.99 each item but I got mine at wal mart lol. Also saw at shoppers recently.
I'm not crazy then, I felt like I'd seen it somewhere 😅
So I have tried the Redken line and the L’Oréal Ever pure. I do agree on the shampoo that I get a better wash with the Redken. The L’Oréal I am greasy after day 2, which stinks. I did follow up with a clarifying shampoo to get a cleaner feeling. I do like the L’Oréal obviously in terms of price , but Redken has my vote as well. The treatments as you said, same ingredients and I don’t really care for either. But the shampoo and conditioner is nice. Thanks for the review as always
Do you think in your opinion your need all three products from the line
@@fc-oh9dq I didn’t care for the pre treatment, so for me it’s a no.
Abbey will you please review the Jennifer Aniston haircare line? I saw that they just launched at Ulta and I'm super curious to know your thoughts
Exactly this!!
