Been lifting pretty consistently since I was 15 and I'm 33 now. What I will say is the gains I've gotten over the years pale in comparison to the mental, emotional and overall benefits of pushing my body to the limit in a controlled and consistent way. I'm also one of the only one of my friends who owns a nice house. Not that they're completely linked, but I've been obsessive about lifting and building a strong foundation more than half my life, and I've channeled that energy into a stable home environment (because I didn't have that growing up). All that to say, for any newer lifters, it's not just the surface level that matters, true grit and strength has many other benefits that a shortcut will never get you.

I've covered that in other videos with Dr. Shanna Swan. Testosterone and sperm count are down over 50% since the 1970s - largely due to microplastics which act as endocrine disruptors.
@andreaswahl6644 The solution is very multifaceted and nuanced. It’s also not black or white. Just like “synthetics” are allowing us to have this conversation. Just like many “synthetic” things, although not ideal, have played an important role in our evolution and served as a stepping stone towards less reliance on it. Low testosterone is a byproduct of many things that are related to our culture, western predominantly. Sleep, exercise, diet, supplements, sunlight, intimacy/human connection, reducing microplastics where we can, especially with the textiles that have direct contact to our skin and reproductive bits.. we can apply our due diligence and mitigate exposure to the things that have a detrimental effect on our hormones. But certain things are quite challenging to completely avoid in the toxic global environment. The toxicity is rampant in our food, our water and our air etc.. some classify TRT as steroidal although that’s up for debate. Regardless, it can potentially be life saving to men stuck in near lifeless/will-less states requiring momentum to reach an escape velocity for breakthrough. I’m not advocating for it as some panacea but it’s a tool that’s available and shouldn’t be ruled out. It’s obviously not for everyone and of course, it’s ideal to not have to go that route. And like I said, I firmly believe it could potentially save the life of someone stuck in the pits of depression with no motivation, confidence or will to live. And it would need to be augmented of course with some of the aforementioned healthy habits. Based on some of the experts I’ve listened to on the topic of testosterone, the benefits of being on it far outweigh the risks of being very low in it. And to reiterate, that doesn’t mean it’s for all men. Our cultural systems that contribute need to be overhauled and our regulators need to flip the priority to well-being over profit. This will take some time. So, as we course correct towards a world that prioritizes our well being above all else, all options and tools are valid for consideration, “synthetic” or not.
What is the solution then? You cannot avoid all of the chemicals. We’re swimming in a soup of it. They’re literally getting into our body through multiple different vectors. Microplastics are found in 100% of human cadavers in almost all of them organ tissues studied including blood testicles and brain tissue. Unless one wants to move to the mountains and drink rainwater and hunt animals for the rest of their life, I say take back ownership of one’s own body chemistry. There is a reason why they don’t want men to have high testosterone (it is directly associated with with lower agreeableness to authorities in studies). Just like there is a reason why they scheduled magic mushrooms and LSD to be as criminal as heroin crack and meth. More and more young men are coming into clinics with worse testosterone than their granddads. Take back control.
As someone who used to think being big means being superior, I think very differently after going from lifting weights into combat sports. While having strength is one of the most important qualities, but having speed, mobility, flexibility is as equally important. In fact, cardio and endurance is way above of just being able to lift heavy weights. After 3 years of conditioning I've learned of a specially great feeling when your way bigger sparring partner becomes gassed out because of how much energy it takes to move all that bulk and you're not even remotely tired or even taking deep breaths. If you know it, you know it. You don't even need to hit hard, sometimes they just forfeit.
I agree 100 %. For me it is about being fit more generally. Many of the big guys at my gym are strong and explosive for a small amount of reps, but they have low endurance, run like crap and get winded very easily. I'd much rather be 70-80 % of their explosive strength, yet also be agile, fast and be able to run 10k under 60 minutes and grit for longer.
In movies and video games, soldiers like navy seals tend look as muscular as a WWF wrestler for example. But I had found that in real life the majority of soldiers including navy seals, don't look quite as muscular as a WWF wrestler, even though they still look fit.
@@Smartacus420 slim arms will draw guns faster ... if youre gonna use that as an example, what would you prefer in battle ? .. along with many other significant factors that result in soldiers being slim fit, mobility is the main 1.
When I found out thay Arnold had triple bypass, and a transplant as buff as he was after roids. Along with the The Ultimate Warrior, Macho Man Randy Savage, among others from WWF /WWE when I was a boy died fairly young. That really changed my mind on wanting to be like them.
This is a very well documented important video. I’ve been passionately working out since I was 8 to present day all natural and clean diet. I have witnessed the obvious effects from roids from others I have met and I could feel everything described in this video from my past observation of them. It’s great to be healthy and workout a man’s body seemingly goes hand and hand with it, but over doing anything just leads to a loss of acceptance of one’s normal perfection and perception of their authentic self.
At 20 years old I was on a fair amount of gear. 5'10, 230lbs and single digit bodyfat. It was obvious that I was enhanced. The problem is today is this is being pushed as normal, and it most certainly is not. It took me years after coming off it to feel remotely normal again. Also, back then it was pharma grade, non of this dangerous black market stuff. I pray these young folks start learning more about the dangers and somehow social media stops glorifying it. Really great post, great to see some educational content.
My friend and I were both cat 1 cyclists, but we couldn't have looked more different. My legs didn't even look impressive outside of my calves, just wirey. My upper body was slender and soft. His? Tree trunk legs, massive vascular arms, pecks, he had it all. I finally asked him one day how he stays so massive and ripped. He chuckles and says, "DUDE, I'm on roids....can you not tell?!" And I'm like, "I just assumed the best". He laughs again and says, "Dude, you don't get to look like me and ride a bike without roids..." He then follows it up with, "NEVER. EVER DO ROIDS. Don't even think about it you dumb f*ck!" And I'm like, "Ok, but why?" He tells me about some of the issues he's had and admits his cycling days are done the day he stops juicing. Sure enough, he stopped juicing one day and he turned into a giant meatball with the worst vitals. He couldn't even hope to ride a bike for more than a few miles for a couple years. He's finally looking more normal but he even said he'll never be the same as he once was. Yet, me, having never touched the stuff a decade after being at my peak could go out tomorrow and begin training the same as I once did...nothing needed but some peanut butter and bananas. I really want to know how many of these roid monkey's are being honest with themselves about the damage and issues they're accruing with their use. This generation might be jacked right now, but in 20 years they're going to be jacked up.
It's not a very easy issue to study when so many people deny taking them. The problems are obvious for professional body builders, but everyone from cops to Olympic female swimmers use them. It would be nice to be able to study the non professionals that take them just to lose the body fat.
9:46 -To anyone looking at content and feeling "inadequate" this is an important point. I had a really good atheistic earlier this year. Worked out consistently, ate right, no drugs. Then I had a bad accident, couldn't work out. Then I got really sick, couldn't work out. I'm a bit flabby now, getting back into it. Will be in good shape again, consistent, eating right, good sleep. I could have taken a bunch of pictures at my recent "peak", good lighting, dehydrated myself, put it online for people to look at. It would be a snap-shot though. I don't put stuff like that online, I don't look at stuff like that online. I exercise to feel good, healthy, be more physically capable. Health should be the basis I think.
It's weird that it's taken off, it's grotesque. Steroid use looks good in the early stages, so I can understand getting hooked initially, but it looks yuck after a while and they can't see it. Body image dysmorphia is hardcore, good luck to those lost in it.
The thing is beauty is in the eye of the beholder. You might not want that look (or find it attractive) but many people do. These people aren’t getting jacked out of their minds for you and you alone, they’re doing it either to feel like they’re more or because they love it, usually a combination of both
@@Robdutton91 You don't think those feelings could be found without using drugs? I reckon you could use thay same logic for people on hard drugs like crack, heroin or amphetamines. There is usually always a healthier way. For me, knowing that is what makes seeing it the most disturbing and off putting.
@@Robdutton91 I disagree, getting swoll is not what I'm talking about. Steroids are unnatural, they create an unnatural grotesque form. It isn't healthy, they die early. That level of bulking is 100% mental illness. It's like saying bullimia is a healthy personal choice, super silly.
That’s freaking effed up and should be illegal to put boys who are still growing and just going through initial puberty again freaks who use steroids. Can believe we might have to test high school students for the safety of others
I’ve used steroids. Nearly 4 years off now, wish I’d never touched anything. The gains I made could’ve been easily made with hard training and good recovery. Once you get started you can easily become ‘addicted’ to the rapid gains and the insane ‘pumped all the time’ look. Gyno surgery is £8k in the UK. No idea how much damage I did to my internal organs. It ain’t worth it
its funny when steroid users hop off and then act like they lost the muscles because they eat clean now "like a nerd" or do cardio "like a nerd" never admit they never had the muscles to begin with because it was a facade. like people who use others money and sources and act like they're rich. Then when they get cut off and are broke act like they had an epiphany about money.
I thought progress would be much faster when using steroids to achieve a bigger physique, not just to look like the best version of a naturally attainable body.
@ so you eat clean, minimal seed oils, non gmo, free range, grass fed, wild caught, don’t drink alcohol or do drugs, don’t get beat down constantly at work, good sleep hygiene, exercise regularly and still low T? I doubt it. Weight training, especially squats and leg press go a long way.
@@TheTmshuman yes, they do go a big way. But not for everybody, there are just people who cannot build much muscle, even with perfect training, eating and extra/normal test. Of course that shouldnt be an excuse and they are few, but still, there are humans. Just like the other way, someone who is natural with not good training and eating who has a huge load of muscle and (possibly) also test.
Very good. I listened twice. When I was a teenager, we were told it was illegal. The Commies were always cheating during Olympics. Some HS guys overdid 'droids and the rumors at parties were pretty cruel: "Danny Boy can't get Little Danny to salute." Even some of their muscles looked distorted. I tried stuff for a few months and all I remember were headaches. Good philosophy, too! This video best for grade/HS. 👌👍
It's amazing what people are doing to themselves in the name of vanity. Keeping the body and mind equally fit without malign substances could never go wrong.
Someone on X suggested instead of giving boys (or man) estrogen, give them testosteron as an imbalance can actually make them 'feel' more female, making it look like they where (in there own words) 'born in the wrong body'. But because the body expects testosteron (as it's a male body) a lack hereof can lead to gender dysphoria. Now with the androgen receptor problems (due to microplastics) this would actually explain the rise in diagnoses (excluding the one that were mentally motivated.)
The „functional fitness is king“-argument hit different! Incredible video, I have never had contact to steroids but had thought about going to a gym. I will now stay with body weight exercise and join a new dojo as before covid.

But at some point I might need help, so I'm open to steroids in about 30 years, if I get too weak to live alone like I do now. I hope my lifelong addiction to the gym will let me stay natural until I feed the planet my corps💪
Very nice presentation. But you do not mention how this effects our immune system. What is the use of looking, 'buffed', when a few mosquitos can send a person to the hospital?
Given how absurdly high the partner's looks standards are by women just to be noticed by said women, some men turn to steroids to look blatantly muscular. There's also the issue of all the synthetic female hormones there are in the water supply that are feminizing men. Not to mention all the plastics with similar chemicals that do the same thing.
As a natural lifter of about 15 years its been very disheartening to see the attitudes shift on steroid use. So many people seem to he ok with it now and have a "their body their choice" stance on it when it used to be roudnly rejected and seen as cheating. Worst of all is when people use their physique to sell advice or oroducts to get like them, when they are in fact users who deny it
I'm only here because i saw the thumbnail and said to myself, "They shall be called my Space Marines, and they shall know no fear!" Had a bit of a chuckle.
Influencers who make ironic steroid jokes like “being natty is beta” are nowadays being considered as role models by many impressionable young teens who don’t understand the irony. I see it everywhere, kids trying to become the next Togi, Sam Sulek etc
People need to be taught vanity makes you a selfish POS. I don't see any of that crap on my social media because it's ridiculous. Wars are being fought, people are dying, currencies are being destroyed and idiots only care about their bodies. Puke.
Steroids aren't an epidemic... they're endemic. My high school coach was giving half the team dbol back in the 90s. Endemic means a condition that is constantly present in a group of people and will remain there indefinitely.
A serious discussion needs to be had about putting children on hormone blockers and synthetic hormones before puberty and the damage that it does to them permanently. We’re destroying a whole generation of children
Great conversation and I appreciate the nod to gender norms and recognizing there is a spectrum of men and masculinity. I think talking about masculinity as an ideal and even within the context of a spectrum of behavior makes more sense than saying a man is this. Being yourself and honoring your internal drives and motivations is the most basic and important thing an individual can do. And understanding that drive within the context of the Universe is the work of all individuals; no easy feat. Making choices as a young man is definitely different than as an older man, at least in my case, and having mentors around to help talk to is hugely important. Tiktok is not a source for mentors and it behooves older people everywhere to be involved with young people whether they have kids or not.
If people spent more time on meal preparation and disciplined diet and sleep 7/8hrs day then they'd not have to cheat with roids and pay for it later on in life I've always remained natural throughout my strength training journey since 2012 and people actually presume I've been taking roids because I've gained a good physique 10+ years of dedication and discipline just keep it simple a good clean whole food diet and prioritising a solid sleeping pattern (up before sunrise) my personal favourite no matter the time of year+ sauna use for recovery gains & cardio gains it's been my go too for the past 10+ years Stay natural and live a life without regrets the next generation need to be exposed to more truthful information like this good work Dr Raynor 👊👊
I’ve been immersed in the AAS culture since the late 90s. Dr. Raynor made a lot of good points. I’d be curious to know how he thinks some of the non-AAS like peptides (including experimental) & SARMs now fit into this conversation.

I think all drugs should be legal with education, rehab, and safe use areas. This should include steroids. If people are using this without harming themselves or others, then leave them alone. No, I dont think everyone should do steroids. People should be ABLE to CHOOSE whether it's best for their personal goals given the right safeguards of purity, potentcy, quality of production overall, etc. People will use substances regardless of laws and regulations. Make it safer for them, their families, and the world.
Ive actually noticed the last 10 years a massive increase in young people on TRT. It should be for men in their 40s or 50s who are suffering but not 19 or 20 year olds near the peak of their testosterone.
Young men need to steer clear unless they have low T… However, I’m 49 and have been a competitive athlete my entire life. I started testosterone a year ago. I did so due to low energy and sex drive. It is the greatest choice I’ve made in years to start. I feel amazing and alive … testosterone is awesome and life has improved MASSIVELY since starting it.
This video does a good job discussing the use of steroids among teens and others seeking quick muscle gains but neglects to highlight the important benefits of Testosterone Replacement Therapy (TRT). Testosterone levels in men typically peak during late adolescence to early adulthood, often around the age of 18-20, and begin to gradually decline after the age of 30. This decline can lead to a range of issues, including reduced energy levels, loss of muscle mass, increased body fat, decreased libido, and even mood changes such as irritability or depression. TRT is not just about enhancing muscle growth-it is a medically supervised treatment aimed at restoring healthy testosterone levels to improve overall well-being and support vital physiological functions in aging men. By addressing this decline, TRT can play a critical role in sustaining a healthier, more balanced male body.
I think excessively muscular people look a bit gross. I don't think bodybuilders do it to attract women, maybe they start off doing it for that reason but i think it can become an obsession
Great video. I liked the ending the best actually, where he talks a about what being a man can mean (aside from biology) with Confutious idea of the superior man and also the example of a full human being that also has feminine and masculine qualities, as well as navy seals 🦭 how they’re in great functional shape and are literal warriors vs surface level aesthetics in the gym. I’ve never taken roids, mostly have been a strong weightlifter in my prime, tried running and yoga here and there too. Now I weight lift because it does feel good and I appreciate the aesthetic but It difficult for me to escape my minds pull of wanting to train mma and have the functionality of that exercise as well as improve in the hobby itself and Carrey that over to life with self esteem and even new friendships in the hobby.
As any addicted, the guys will tell each other „ya, that doctor got no idea how it works, that guy we met on the parking deck last week, however, he is the god of steroids use. He will help you“
So I plan on not having more kids, I don't have body image concerns, but I am very very interested in steroids. I am looking to greatly increase my strength. I am working out and eating right and plan on continuing to do well with this. I am not looking for a quick fix, but a stronger system to create my strength. I am trying to do more research on this as I hate needles, but will overcome this for the desired results.
18:55 what the actual heck... when I was a kid the heroin addixts had the needle hygene problem... now mid / upper class roid users have it? have we learned nothing?!?
Addicts are natural dummies and I support their sterlity. Some of these guys have issues cause they inject shit into their muscles to make it look bigger. Genius level shit. 😂
I wise naturally ripped man warned me when I was a boy about this. The steroid temptation is real, but the gains they give can more often than not cost more than they are worth, and do not last. Natural muscle does.

I'm trained in taekwondo, Kickboxing, and Judo throwing. I agree. I keep my physique natural and use the gym to keep my strength consistent.
This is super important today with all the fake natty’s and sarm fiends out there

In movies and video games, soldiers like navy seals tend look as muscular as a WWF wrestler for example. But I had found that in real life the majority of soldiers including navy seals, don't look quite as muscular as a WWF wrestler, even though they still look fit.
Just look at UFC and boxing. Tyson Fury for example. Being that big isnt functional in the real world.
@@Smartacus420 slim arms will draw guns faster ... if youre gonna use that as an example, what would you prefer in battle ? .. along with many other significant factors that result in soldiers being slim fit, mobility is the main 1.
A lot of navy seals look like seals. 😂
the have muscles that have strength, not protein balloons :D
When I found out thay Arnold had triple bypass, and a transplant as buff as he was after roids. Along with the The Ultimate Warrior, Macho Man Randy Savage, among others from WWF /WWE when I was a boy died fairly young. That really changed my mind on wanting to be like them.
Great educational video! This video should be seen by high schoolers!!
This is so good. Summarizes the best arguments quite well. Shortcuts make long delays.
Don't even think about it you dumb f*ck!"
And I'm like, "Ok, but why?" He tells me about some of the issues he's had and admits his cycling days are done the day he stops juicing.

-To anyone looking at content and feeling "inadequate" this is an important point.
Yeah it only takes one major event and we back to regular. lol. It does feel good to not have any semblance of a gut though.
Strength is great, but ask any athlete or military person that isn’t a body builder and you’ll see endurance is much more important
roids give you that too...
@ sure, but this whole video was about people getting huge, not building endurance. Even if roids do help, you have to train for that
@@vincentclark5739 same goes for muscle ...
Both are required minimums. There is no one or the other.
@@vincentclark5739 same goes for size and strenght...roids dont magicallygive you muscle
In the High School I went to all of the football team used steroids.
Thanks for sharing.
TRT is steroids. It’s a lot of people in my gym. Balding at 25 because of TRT and still being weak is just shameful.
How is it shameful when their genetics just are not good?
(Of course it is not good to use steroids, but trt with consent of a real doctor is good)
@ so you eat clean, minimal seed oils, non gmo, free range, grass fed, wild caught, don’t drink alcohol or do drugs, don’t get beat down constantly at work, good sleep hygiene, exercise regularly and still low T?
@@allesinallem7 Do you think that applies to EVERYONE using steroids? They "just can't gain muscle."
@@Tay_Yolo i think i very clearly wrote, that no, that only applies to a very small percentage of humans...
Yes doctor please more videos about raising awareness about drugs using and it’s long term side effects. Thank you!
I don't think it's cruel to warn other young men of the effects of steroid abuse.
It's amazing what people are doing to themselves in the name of vanity. Keeping the body and mind equally fit without malign substances could never go wrong.
Thanks for the informative video & excellent collaboration.
The damage to adolescence with steroids can also be applied to the weird ones that put their kids on puberty blockers.
Now with the androgen receptor problems (due to microplastics) this would actually explain the rise in diagnoses (excluding the one that were mentally motivated.)
i might be wrong but, i think that group is way way smaller, so no

The „functional fitness is king“-argument hit different! Incredible video, I have never had contact to steroids but had thought about going to a gym. I will now stay with body weight exercise and join a new dojo as before covid.
This sounds like something parents should be handling this. If parents raise they're childten right, children grow up with self-esteem and self-respect.
They also learn the difference between they're, there, and their lol

I hit the gym at 16, I'm now 49. I am built for running marathons, not for lifting. I feel strong enough to live the tough life in the woods, having chores that require stamina throughout the year. But at some point I might need help, so I'm open to steroids in about 30 years, if I get too weak to live alone like I do now. I hope my lifelong addiction to the gym will let me stay natural until I feed the planet my corps💪
I'm 29, and we've reached the same conclusion. I also keep in shape so I can roam the wilderness and be badass, rather than volumeous.

Extremely informative that’s my big thumbs up
Very informative video, thanks!
Great PSA. I wish that more men would eschew the superficial view of outer appearance being paramount.
Not a topic that I thought I was going to be interested in, however, Dr. Chris won me over with his engaging presentation.
In real life women are not looking for that stuff it's just social media
Great content by Dr Chris
Thank you both soo much
Excellent expose' presenting both sides of the argument. Rare find these days. Thanks for the good video.
As a natural lifter of about 15 years its been very disheartening to see the attitudes shift on steroid use. So many people seem to he ok with it now and have a "their body their choice" stance on it when it used to be roudnly rejected and seen as cheating. Worst of all is when people use their physique to sell advice or oroducts to get like them, when they are in fact users who deny it
I'm only here because i saw the thumbnail and said to myself, "They shall be called my Space Marines, and they shall know no fear!"
Had a bit of a chuckle.
Great summary of issues surrounding steroids. You should do a collab with Dr. Mike Isratel.
We need more content like that circulating on social media. Too many young men get sucked into the get fit quick scam
Puke.
Crazy timing im at the gym while doing incline treadmill watching this

Can you do a video about HRT?
I'm 40 and considering it
Steroids aren't an epidemic... they're endemic. My high school coach was giving half the team dbol back in the 90s. Endemic means a condition that is constantly present in a group of people and will remain there indefinitely.
Take home note; the true defining characteristic of anyone is the abilito lead with integrity and live honourably.
Big thumbs up 👍🙏❤️
A serious discussion needs to be had about putting children on hormone blockers and synthetic hormones before puberty and the damage that it does to them permanently. We’re destroying a whole generation of children
That was awesome Dr Chris,, watched alot of your other content... Just finished the Karen Carpenter Biography, (anorexia), who knew of Bigorexia.
Good work Doc!
Great video! Thank you!
The thing is it doesn't help them understand THEIR OWN body on a deeper level
Do more like this.
If people spent more time on meal preparation and disciplined diet and sleep 7/8hrs day
then they'd not have to cheat with roids and pay for it later on in life
I've always remained natural throughout my strength training journey since 2012 and people actually presume I've been taking roids because I've gained a good physique
10+ years of dedication and discipline just keep it simple
a good clean whole food diet and prioritising a solid sleeping pattern (up before sunrise) my personal favourite no matter the time of year+ sauna use for recovery gains & cardio gains it's been my go too for the past 10+ years

BPC157 ?
Or could you do another one on peptides?
Love your skits 😊

We should be looking at the causes of this decline in testosterone, that in itself is unnatural.
Families the lift together, stay together.
I think excessively muscular people look a bit gross. I don't think bodybuilders do it to attract women, maybe they start off doing it for that reason but i think it can become an obsession
Be safe man and don't use steroids are bad for you. I may be an old generation X but I'm able to get old because I don't use steroids.
Need one of these on female overuse/abuse and the side effects realized such as virilization etc.

He will help you“
Steroids should be easily prescribed by a doctor if asked for them.
I literally stuck myself this morning!!!
In Canada it’s not illegal to possess PED’s for personal use.
I wouldn't put navy seals on fitness pedestal. Some of them have severe health problems later in their lives like knee and joint pain.
Good video, thank you Doc
I wise naturally ripped man warned me when I was a boy about this. The steroid temptation is real, but the gains they give can more often than not cost more than they are worth, and do not last. Natural muscle does.
