Extraordinary squash! Perhaps the greatest match I've ever viewed, live or recorded. Classy sportsmanship, excellent commentating, top notch refereeing. Should be exhibit A for making the case to sanction squash as an Olympic event.
A whole decade later, Mo is still reaching the finals of the World Championship! I cannot argue with Ali Farag in acknowledging him as the greatest of his time.
41:08 Funny to watch this match now and hear that Els brothers were hoping to make history. 5 yrs later they've made it just slightly different than PJ said :)
man the best game ive ever seen. these guys are higher ranking now but i still feel like they were better here when they're younger... holy crap this game now has all 5 of the best rallies ive ever seen in the sport.
That announcer didn't know how on the mark he was with that comment about elshorbagy "Mark my words, he will be a future world number 1, he will be an all time great" Watching this 11 years later, he lived up to the hype and then some. I only wish Ashour had stayed healthy long enough to see them duke it out a bit more
From what I can tell: Mo appealed that Ramy's ball was down. Ramy said it wasn't but given that it was 9-2 and the game pretty much over he wasn't going to get annoyed.
It looked like a quick double bounce off the nick. The ref may have miscalled it as down when he meant not up-it was difficult to hear. I think Ramy was correcting him that it wasn’t down (it wasn’t), but conceded that the ball had bounced twice.
What equivalent squash ball are they using? I play with a double yellow dot (very occasionally a single yellow) and when I play the ball never sits up as nicely as is does in this game. Get so many dead balls and the ball never seems to pop up off the back wall like it does in this video.. My theory is the court we play on (wood floor) isn't good quality. Does this make sense?
The wood floor is probably alright quality, maybe a bit dusty if its not too well maintained, but i imagine you get more dead balls at the back then they seem to because the ones that would be dead they're hitting early, and are better obviously, and they're hitting it a lot harder than you probably are (no offence)
correct me if i am wrong, but you are probably not anywhere near the level of these players and therefore have shorter rallies and a colder ball. they continuously pound the ball for long rallies which keeps the ball hotter and livelier
I am obviously not professional level, however have been playing for a long time and would definitely not consider myself a novice. The ball stays very warm, so nothing to do with that, plus we play with heaters on. We train with a professional.. he seems to think the whole court needs repainting, very worn out. I played on a glass court the other week, and wow, huge difference. Minimal dead balls (only on perfect shots)
Most amateurs should play with a single dot, which is made for them, and bouncier, but most want to play with the same ball as the pros, but they don’t hit it well enough to heat it up as well the pros do, so it doesn’t bounce, and the rallies aren’t as fun.
+Ethan Criglington The reason for the stroke is because Shorbagy did not allow Ashour to play a direct shot to the front wall. So if Ashour wanted to play a direct shot to the left of the front wall Shorbagy would have been in the way. Hence a stroke. So a player must never be in the direct line between the ball being played and the front wall. For this reason a lot of time when player A plays a shot and it goes back near player A, player B can claim a stroke.
Ethan Criglington If he would have hit a crosscourt, he would have hit shorbagy. Normally when I play squash I would play the ball, but in these tense moments players are always looking for cheap points
Several weak calls in that match. For example...Yes Let to ElSho at 8-9 in 5th game. Very clear Stroke should have been the call. Ref let Ashour block endlessly in the 5th game and did not penalize him for minimal effort and not taking direct path to the ball several times, rewarding Ramy with too many Let calls in the 5th. And of course Ramy should have been given a Stroke to win the match near the end. But by then the Ref had abdicated all responsibility for making rational calls.
Sorry, I mean the Let call at 8-10 in the 5th. Clear Stroke to ElSho. Ask yourself what the fair outcome of the point would have been if Ramy had cleared OUT of the way, rather than into the way of the incoming player.
i dont like ramys use of the racket behind the opponent to get a let. a lot of the egyptians do it and its basic cheating. if you slow down most of these antics by ramy you can see they are no lets, he just leaves his racket behind the player to con the ref

Every time I watch these clips, I want to be playing squash! Best game in the world!
it is an amazing sport
Interesting to see how let calls have changed since this match.
Thanks for posting this! starts at around 00:03:09 if you're in a rush to watch the match start :)
SQUASH NEEDS TO BE AT THE OLYMPICS

This is the most exquisite squash i've seen in many years
The best rally! 1:04:20 - 1:05:15
2 great squash monsters, thanks a lot PSA for this channel (it brang me back to the squash court :)

"Both players using the front wall". What else would they be using?
He meant the front court.
Using the different heights on the front wall. This is what he is referring too.

The ball played in the fourth set at 9-9 is undoubtedly the best rallye I ever have seen...
I just miss this ramy!
Thank you PSA SquashTV !
That rally at 9-9, on 1:04:15! Dropshots galore, one flat on the ground and one playing the ball from between the legs!

29:29 Ashour's causual warm up ..when everything just comes naturally :)
Unbelievable match
Thank you squash tv !
1:04:20 enjoy some talent :))
What a rally!

Sorry I'm quite new to squash, why's the point at 1:29:07 given to Ashour when Elshorbagy was able to retrieve it?
newbro Elshorbagy conceded that the ball bounced twice, you can hear the ref and Ramy say thank you.
+newbro it hit the tin
Thanks squash tv but you already posted this full match.
Quality squash of both Ashor and El shorbagy :)
fantastic
In fairness, what this video doesn't show is Shorbagy was near death the night before against Willstrop.
It feels so much different to watch this match as an Egyptian

Let at 30:52? Swing prevention and no clearing effort by Ashour = Stroke to El Shorbagy who had to push Ashour out of his way.
That wasn't a let, Ashour moved out the way and the ball was right in front of Elshorbagy
very much appreciated!
Guys why did they stop here? 1:16:50
What exactly happened at 12:11?
I want to know that too. It would be great if someone can explain this!

i would like to know what song that is they play in between games

the floor makes a lot of difference..the bounce off the floor is better and more accurate

At 1:11:00 ashour gets a stroke? Someone please explain?? I'm new to squash.
Ethan Criglington yup stroke to ashour, it's a bad shot.
+Ethan Criglington The reason for the stroke is because Shorbagy did not allow Ashour to play a direct shot to the front wall. GOAT Ramy ashour
Ramy❤❤❤
Why do the players often reach up and touch the higher parts of the court in between points?
sweaty hands
