    OMG...That bored man among public 1:08:09...What are we doing wrong in our beloved sport? Two amazing players giving the best in a final...I think that it's the reason why squash will never be an olimpic sport. People don't understand the game. Pros make the game seem easiest than really is. I'm affraid that only people who plays can understand the difficulty, technique and beauty on every ball hitting, on every movement made to reach the ball and press the oponent. Thks SQUASHTV for this christmas gift. I didn't get bored at all!

      @arnaud78 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I have found that too... People generally don't have an understanding of the complexity of the game, to them it's just a bunch of random ball-hitting.

      I think the guy was just tired. Most people who go to squash tournaments are players themselves, or former players, and know the game very well.

    Phenomenal squash!
    Can we also take a sec to appreciate the fantastic commentary as well.
    Joey Barrington, having the best technical head but also keeping it real and funny.

    this is probably the only match i've seen paul coll getting tired on court. He's easily the fittest and one of the most athletic player on tour and farag managed to take advantage of coll's tough journey to the final and tire him out. Great match by both

    I understand there isn't a huge amount of money is squash, sadly, but could they not get a high speed camera or two at the front to cover questionable pickups and shots etc?

    • @kylemerenaandfinley
      @kylemerenaandfinley 3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      I slowed it down as much as possible and it was not a double bounce but your high speed camera would clear it up nicely, good thought!

    This match really evokes Jansher's supreme domination of squash with efficient movement and anticipation. Khan would go 2 games down to the world number 2 (Dittmar)...and it was obvious the match was over. The Kiwi "Superman" might as well have shaken hands after game two.
    Jansher had a slightly more "athletic" build- making his game a touch more graceful. Ali has more variation (required in this era) and plays with a smile. But they both anticipate so well and move so fluidly- to the point of absurdity. Making a hard game look easy...

    I was wondering where Barrington's trademark wit was on this one, but finally at 59:20 the legend delivers. Classic

    If squash was best of three instead of five, Farag might not be up there in top 3. His game is however, perfect for four and five setters due to efficiency in movement and consistency. Coll was playing better than Farag but simply ran out of steam mid 3rd game onward. Interesting to see Coll alter his usual game to attacking at the front in order to counter Farag’s long game. It’s a strategy that worked well.

      And if games were to 15, with fewer "no lets" called- like in Jansher's day- or hand-out to 9, with a 19" tin- like in Jahangir's day- FARAG WOULD NEVER LOSE.

  • @johnrogstad1278
    @johnrogstad1278 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    How is the call at around 1:30:30 not a let? Farag seems to be in the way of the most direct line to the ball, Coll is aggressively going for it, and Farag's shot is off the wall and reasonably retrievable. This seems like a pretty standard let situation.

    1h 30m clearly a let. Absolute shocker of a decision. As the commentator said, what line is he supposed to take other than through Farag?

  • @corallaroc2946

    I see a bit of Nick Matthews in the way Paul Coll plays. Gameplay is similar in for instance taking the pace out through lobs consistently, rebuilding ralleys slowly up to a clean kill. Also the movements are similar, both having a highly stereotypical stroke pattern each time, going very low which is supported by a very strong stance and body core. I guess it may be down to similar work ethics.
    Plus similar annoying addressing the referee as "John" ^^

      There were many points where this crowd cheered for Ali after a good rally, yet Egyptian crowds are completely silent unless an Egyptian wins the point - regardless of the quality of the rally.

    Squash has the worst sports commentary in sport. Let me firstly admit my bias: I have little or no regard for sports commentators generally but squash, the game I love, have played all my adult life and love to watch is spoiled by the awful commentary. Get rid of these guys, or pay them to keep quiet. I like tho old school commentary of the late Dan Maskell from tennis, where most of the time he kept quiet.
