Its 2022 and the Z4 is now regarded as a modern classic, as already mentioned the lines are classically and timeless. Although the TT was a good match with the Z4, time has proved the BMW Z4 e86 is a gem of a car - buy it while you can.
Z4 Coupe is quite rare and a future classic. Far and away amongst the best modern BMW shapes. The non-M 3.0si is about 100kg lighter with its all-alloy 3.0l straight six than the iron-block 3.2l Z4M. It's no slouch either and probably a better daily driver and ownership proposition than the M, particularly with conventional non-RFT tyres and a drop-in LSD to further improve power-down in inclement weather. According to Tiff, Plato bought a Z4 at about this time. Easy to see why. It's individual, near bullet-proof, plenty fast in the real world and great fun on the track.
@@justinwaters2104 They're rare as far as 2 seat BMW coupes go. Plus depending where you live, they can be quite rare. Checking online there are only 9 for sale in Australia, 3 of which are the Z4M.
@@justinwaters2104 I have to think you are looking at the newer Z4 hardtop convertibles. There were only 3919 coupes made for North America, and around half of those were M's. If you're seeing them everywhere you are in an unusual place.
I would love to have the Z4 coupe. Only modern shooting brake besides the FF. it's definitely a future classic, especially here in the US where nobody likes hatchbacks, much less an expensive sports car hatch. Perfect car to be different!
Had never thought about it 10 yrs ago when my father owned an MK1 TT 3.2 but gosh that VR6 sounds amazing and even tho it is true than Bimmers r always faster and quicker and sportier and whatever, the first gen TT looks beautiful
@sharpanator yes I said that in my post...and I also said that the ttrs's newest competitor would be the sdrive35is, which would STILL smoke the audi. the audi has better handling in wet weather, but it's not nearly nimble enough on dry roads to compare with the beemer.
"the best aspect of the Z4 is the steering" I'm sure he knows what he's talking about, he had a Z4 roadster, but still, everyone else say the electronic assisted steering of the Z4 is crap
This version of Z4 coupe, even old, IMO is one of the best looking cars ever. And it isn't even a supercar thus accessible to lots more mortals. TT2 on the other hand looks dated even at the same age. And this is coming from an Audi driver. Oh yeah, none if the other Beems look half as good.
@bbrys i'm pathetic?! result speaks for itself, and check again who wins! (inside line doesn't mean to much on drag race and difference is hudge at the end, so thats not an argument for discussion)
they always race audi vs bmw on wet track so audi could have any chance.... thats a shame because on dry bmw always beat his ass hands down... maybe they should try on frozen lake so audi could win....
@R19091 two things: the TTRS is not a comparable match to the Z4 tested in the video above. a likened comparison would be to the Z4 M coupe, and there, the Z4 would win. Z4 M has greater output, plus weighing more than 200 pounds less, power-to-weight clearly favors the BMW. Even w/quattro, the same results would be seen. second, the TTRS is a 2010 model. in 2010, BMW came out with the sDrive35is, which would still smoke the audi, even after gaining some weight for the hard top convertible
This comment is very old but no matter, I still want to correct you. The TT in the video is not a TTRS, it’s actually a base model TT. It’s the perfect match for the Z4.
@@manlymantis101 go digging a decade and the past and you’ll miss a few things bud. I don’t think I was saying the Audi was a rs, but that the rs is not a fit for the z4 that was in the video. But to your point, even a base tt is no match for the z4 from this time period. the tt by no means a "golf"...its based on PQ46...not PQ35. but if you`re that picky and argue that way... then the z4 is also nothing but a ordinary BMW 130 roadster. LOL
I still prefer the Audi .BMW s rust 10 times faster than a Fiat. And the TT iis better looking . the BMW is not bad but id go for the TT as ive owned one before and it was awsome .
Incorrect... The engine is the 3.0si For the 3.0si, you could have trim packages 'SE' or 'Sport' - the SE had worse / less sporty seats, among other things. So, you could get the BMW Z4 3.0si Sport Coupe, or the BMW Z4 3.0si SE Coupe. Hope that makes sense.
If the Z4 is better, I wonder why the TT beats it on 2 of 3 Tracks, both car drove on, according the fastestlaps. Verdict: "The TT is noticeably faster".
That BMW is so ugly, and useless in the wet, and ugly, and only rear wheel drive, and ugly, it would be useless in the snow, and did i mention its UGLY!!!

I recently got one and am never letting go. Manual 3.0si, so the rarest spec of the E86.

The Z4 will never be a future classic. Nothing iconic or special about it. It didn't change the game or make a massive impact.
Z4 is just so classically beautiful sportscar.
What a perfect review. Back end slides and then off to the pub to chat about the motors. Perfect!!

This is the standard 3.0 litre se Z4, not the M Coupe so it is a good test. The M Coupe has 4 exhaust pipes.

z4 coupe 3.0si all the fking way...
Turning off ESP and ASR also enables launch control on the DSG box. That would have been interesting against the BMW

Compared to the TT, even a Vectra has better steering feel.
That's a bit of a myth. There's not that much in it but the steering in the coupe is apparently better. Jayemm on youtube covers it.
@LCOF quicker steering rack than the E46 M3 CSL but then again a E46 Msport coupe face-lift has a quicker steering rack than all of them!
do they actually give away cars?? i never heard anyone wining the competition.
Z4 all day thanks
No possible comparison; the Z4 is in on another level.
