I was about 17 years old when the Z4 came out and the first time I saw it, I knew I had to get one. A few years later I bought one with my own money and I still got it to this day. Thank you sir for making one of the most beautiful cars around.
Thank you Sir for designing an absolute beautiful bombshell in the form of the E85 Z4 roadster. One of the all time most beautiful and time-less design in automotive history. 🙏
I have a Z4M roadster, 2007 in red, low k's, and just love that it is a work of art from the onset, not just a cookie cutter one fits all creation. Sadly in my country a EV is cooler than one of these, but as I drive it and experience it, I know that those around me have no idea of what a car person sees and feels. And yes these are one of those cars that when you leave it, you just have to look back at it, it is not an appliance to you...
God bless this man. I love my e85 Z4 so much. I can just sit on chair next to this master piece and watch the car for hours. Beautifull timeless design even in interior either. One of the 10 best looking car all time without any doubt.
Its a looker, that's for sure. Has been fun driving one lately. How many of you had this Z4 as a toy car as a kid? Now I have the big toy car! Its a classic!
I honestly hated the Z4 in period, but in retrospect it was just ahead of its time. In comparison to their current designs, this looks extremely timeless and classic now!
We just traded in our 2003 Z4 E85 for a very nice 2010 E89. To be honoust, the E85 has a more special design than the E89. Beautiful, I can watch it for hours! I really love the looks of the E85!
The convertible is a stunning design and absolutely timeless. When they grafted the roof on in 2006 it made the car a masterpiece. Definitely one of the most attractive BMWs in every capacity that they've ever made
As an owner of a 2005 Z4 the one thing that I subconsciously do is look back at my Z4 as I walk away. Of note, is that all of my friends that own a Z4 do the same thing.
Can confirm, someone once said " if you park your car an walk away and do not turn around to check it out, you are driving the wrong car." With the Z4 even while you are sitting in the car, every time you check the side mirror you are presented with the gorgeous rear arch and a feeling of immediate joy resonates within.
Mr. Warming is rightfully proud of his design. The fact that kids in 2022 still regularly give my E86 a thumbs up when I pass speaks for itself. Thank you for showing how your great design came about!
Love my E85. These cars are so undervalued yet are so beautiful in their design. Paid just under 10,000 Australian dollars for it 12 months ago. Still can't believe it. 2.5L automatic.
It’s a head turner. Whoever sees it has to look twice. Owned my 2005 Z4 from new. Kept in a garage and still in immaculate condition with less than 65.000km on the clock. It’ll stay in the family for a while because my now adult children love and want to keep it.
The design was legendary. My late father bought this car BMW Z4 E85 2.5i 2007. When we go out many people eye catching of this car. Thanks you Sir. Really appreciate your art design. Masterpice.
My very first sports car is bmw z4. Just got this last november 20, 2020 😊 E85 2.5 (i6) manual soft-top (Sterling Gray Metallic) color. My dream car when i was 15 and now i got it at age of 30. Car still sexy in everyone’s eye
@@DaVinci-uh4tr Well done chasing your dream car. I always wanted an alfa gtv cup 3.2 but it never happened. Be thankful you got there. I'm in a Z4 2.5si and it's wonderful. Luv and Peace.
I was 19 and asked my father to co-sign for a 1965 e type of course he said no. Being devastated continued on with my life work family etc, now retired a few years back and always had my eye on a e86 and purchased one. Just a beautiful design and up there with my youthful desire for the e type. Thank you for this piece of automotive art. 🇨🇦
Truly the best design in the last 50 years. I own a 2007 Z4 coupe, manual with the sports package. I never get tired of just looking at the car. I have only felt this way about my first car which was a 1967 Austin Healey. I ended up owning many Healeys over the years and if I was smart I would start looking for another Z4 coupe or M. Thank you for designing rolling art work.
Fantastic story and thank you for sharing. The reason I bought my Z4-M roadster was the marriage between brilliant design and engineering. So beautiful.
As an Art Center grad, I remember most of my roommates were car design majors. I used to watch them doing outstanding work. But what makes your discussion even more exciting to me is that I bought a 2006 Z4 3.0. I will never sell it. It’s outstandingly performance and spectacular design is timeless. Thanks for all your efforts.
As an owner of 3,0Si 2007 I am absolutely in love with the back of the car, the small ducktail in the back, and the proportions of the front x rear I love, but I find the front lights and the front getting older then the rest of the car faster. The e89 has moved the design to the TOP. I absolutely adore it, but the fact that it got heavier and drives more like a GT is a reason why i chose the older E85 :)
Thank you for designing this beautiful car. I fell in love with it (was the first time this happened and will be the last time for sure, i'm usually a very pragmatic kind a guy about this sort of thing) back when it was shown to the public the first time and later when i visited my BMW dealer and took with me some documentation for it. Couldn't afford one back in '03, now i own one from '04 for four years and i love this car since the first minute i drove it. Will be hard to replace one day.....
My father’s 05’ Z4 has served for years as a constant conversation starter in lessons of design from him to me. I cherish, adore and celebrate such icon.
I had a Z3 back then and I didn't like the Z4 at all, especially not its TT-like front end. Nowadays I have to say the E85 has aged magnificently and I really like it too. The flaming surface design was undoubtedly a bold innovation that now looks completely natural. My new G29 still has a bit of it in it.
I think back at the fork in the road i took in high school... at age 15, I went to Pasadena to tour Art Center, as I was planning on doing their automotive design course. It's an amazing course and facility. I talked to several of the students and faculty there. Sometime in my junior year, I decided to pursue electronics engineering (no regrets, of course, it was the right choice). I graduated high school in 1993, and would have been starting school later that year or perhaps early '94 7 I did. I started studying electronics in fall of '93. To think had I followed the artistic side rather than the technical, I may have been classmates with the man who designed the Z4... fascinating! I have a '07 E86. I've enjoyed it for over 10 years, and have no plans of parting with it. It is a true work of art, and as rare as they are, still relatively easy to obtain. Great job Anders!
I first saw a German reg Z4 overtake me on a motorway in Dublin back in early 2004, I remember thinking, was it a new version of the Z3 that I saw and if so its gonna be possibly a much more expensive car than the original. The design struck me so much, think looked like a 100k car. I was truly blown away and as soon as I got home I googled it and discovered it was BMW's latest Z4. I knew from that moment I would buy one. It captures the classic roadster heart with such a modern contemporary twist. In 2007 I purchased an 2005 2.2I and still it have today. Every time I step out of it and walk away I see something new and never tire of driving it, looking at it and keeping it maintained and clean. The car still turns heads, creates conversations. The kids who live near by me shout "Bat Man" at me as I drive by as mine is black. Definitely a future classic! Screw the doubters :)
Very nice informative video about the Z4 E85 which was way ahead of its time .... simply a timelessly elegant, almost extravagant design, where it is really exciting to follow the lines over the car .... great details and one more reason why I like to travel around Europe with this car. Thanks for this video
I've checked out the trailer for 2019 tour and it looks like pure sex! Looking forward to driving my manual 3.0 throughout Europe and especially in the mountains!
I luv the E85 & E89 and thank BMW for having built them, when you consider the age of block shaped SUV's we drive around in now, which have no style or shape at all, affordable convertible cars like this will be remembered as automotive sculpture history. One day the straight six E85 & E89 variant will join the status of the BMW 507 and large photos will be hanging in BMW showrooms everywhere reflecting the glory of the brands past.
Just inherited a 04 E85... Easily the best car I have ever owned, and one that I plan to keep for a very long time. Learned so much from this vid. Cheers.
As a senior design engineer I hope he takes Rolls Royce away from their current blocked shaped bricks that they have increasingly squared of over the years and put some real WoW factor back into their designs, its currently the weakest link in their products. I never look twice at a Rolls Royce.. and yet there is lots to like beneath the skin.
Very muscular, yet unique in a world of similarities. Your sketches are jaw dropping. Learning more about the method to your genius has made this car even hotter to me. Your adventurous choices, and unbridled creativity will make this car a classic one day. The fact that not everyone understood is just because that's how art is. Me personally, i dig it, and if everything works out, I'll be going out to just gaze at my own Z4 this month, becauseit'sa shape i get pleasure from simply viewing at many different angles. It's as if it was a flexing lean muscle, with all it's dynamically graceful form, and far from boring, or cliché, especially when compared to the far softer, though still pleasing in it's own less exciting way, Z3. The Z4 looks like it's in motion while standing still, which is a concept i didn't understand before this, the E85 version of the Z4. Btw, I'm in love with the name "sexy math", and I wish you called this design language by that name, because that might have been better at making people stop to think in depth about the process that produced these lines, which are still as contemporary today as they are strong, yet beautiful. It's the kind of car you feel an increased heart rate when viewing, especially if you're about to drive it.
He was the Z4 M Coupé too? I've been saving for the car for over 10 years. It's been my real dream since last year. But I am only Drive 5 days, and now I am waiting on March. Its Hard…. 😅
I didn't really like how it looked when it came out, first time I saw it it just looked odd and non apealing to me. Years later, after choosing between an z3 (a bit outdated now) and z4(boxster/cayman is a bit out of my budget), finally picked up one and love it, despite all the mechanical issues I have to sort out. It is absolutley stunning little sports car, love the clean, yet classic interior desing as well. Well done and thank you Mr. Warming
Had one in black back in 2004-2010ish. Have to say it needs a light color to bring out the sexy math. The black hid the contours too much and made a small car seem even smaller. My gosh did this design age well.
Love my 2004 Z4 2.2. It is a beautiful design and yes it does look great as you walk away and look at the rear quarter especially. The first generation (pre face lift) had the better tail light treatment in my opinion so is the best from the rearview. The face lifted E85 has the best front design however. The only real design error for me was that the steering wheel/instruments are not directly in front of the driver. Lets not forget though the beautiful six cylinder sound track when you are driving. Every journey is an adventure with this car.
Chris lives in amerika and itali in this car are so many things from amerika italy and england like an old tvr or so the z 4 is great only the first ones i will own my one forever
I have both a e85 and e61. They both look iconic and stunning in 2021 against more "modern" cars. Its clear Chris's team were years ahead of they're designing game. Stunning looks cars.
I have an e86 coupe. I know the roadster predates the coupe 3 model years, but to my eye, the roadster looks like a derivative of the coupe, not the other way around. Does anyone here have any info on the relative timing of the two designs?
I love your work on design of BMW Z4 and I love my BMW z4 E85 Maritime edition. It is a masterpiece of car design. I like BMW Z4 E89 a lot too. I rekon both are timeless designs. I am curious of your comment on design of BMW Z4 G29 (which is incohesive in my opinion). Maybe you could make a video on this topic?
Z4 e85 non è un'auto Per me è un opera d'arte Stile incredibile Ho una z4 e85 nera e la guardo sempre mentre fumo una sigaretta Sexy come pochissime auto al mondo Grande design ♥️
I find this design particularly sensual (and you can really sense it when you clean the car yourself). I regret though that the trunk lid didn’t get a better treatment. It seems an afterthought. Interestingly, he talks about the side and front design but barely mentions the rear…The double bubble on one of his sketch would have been ideal. (See the video at 3mn50). If you pay close attention, none of the rear illustration shows the final design we all know…In that respect the z8 looks more complete.
Much appreciate this video...while I do ponder over the shape..that top profile at 4:11 opened up something too....flame and music...crazy influences so relevant....😏
Purchased my Z4M roadster in September and it has been a blast to drive . It's getting cold here in New YORK but if the sun is out then the top goes down and turn on heat. It has a 6 speed manual and 3.2L engine that has alot of good. Color is Imola red. Love the car, Ok I'm in my 70s and told by women your car is Hot Yes it is. Time to hit the road😁👍
Which bumper do you like, the original, facelift or the M? I have a coupe with the facelift bumper but I want to replace it because it’s not in a good condition and I think the original looks good maybe better than the facelift, even compared to the m style. It looks more fluid and aerodynamic which seems in line the coupe style. Also it looks a bit more robust because of the smaller lower cutaway for the grille.
Anders Warming created a very special surface language for the automotive world that in hindsight was a milestone that hasn't been pushed further at BMW in the post Bangle years. As divisive as CB lead design was at the time, nowadays i love to look back and revel in the intricate beauty of many of the models. Even more beautiful than the E85 was the E86 (that is credited to Thomas Sycha while that credit should be divided for roofline/greenhouse and base). Interior build quality of the american roadster was sadly not on par with the flashy looks and the fantastic drive trains but i'm sure esp. the E86 will be a valued classic in the near future.
best car design i've ever seen. Would love to see a re-launch of the original with pure electric or hydrogen.
People are surprised when I tell them my 03 e85 is 21y/o, timeless design that I still look back at every time I park.

wonderful celebration of the shape 😍 You have did the best shape
Chris lives in amerika and itali in this car are so many things from amerika italy and england like an old tvr or so the z 4 is great only the first ones i will own my one forever
I have both a e85 and e61. They both look iconic and stunning in 2021 against more "modern" cars. Its clear Chris's team were years ahead of they're designing game. Stunning looks cars.
I bought my Z4M in 2006 , one of the first Z4M's sold. Still have it in mint condition.
I have an e86 coupe. I know the roadster predates the coupe 3 model years, but to my eye, the roadster looks like a derivative of the coupe, not the other way around. Does anyone here have any info on the relative timing of the two designs?
I think the side BMW badge and the "Z" design rocker panel looks like a singel propeller plane flying.
Weird how Tomasz Sycha was not even mentioned despite his large contribution with the e86 coupe
Z4 e85 non è un'auto
Per me è un opera d'arte
Stile incredibile
Ho una z4 e85 nera e la guardo sempre mentre fumo una sigaretta
Sexy come pochissime auto al mondo
Grande design ♥️
Yep
Always look back
I find this design particularly sensual (and you can really sense it when you clean the car yourself).
Loved the content and love this car ever since I was a kid, I own one now and want his signature on my dashboard!
Much appreciate this video...while I do ponder over the shape..that top profile at 4:11 opened up something too....flame and music...crazy influences so relevant....😏
Good luck Anders
Purchased my Z4M roadster in September and it has been a blast to drive . It's getting cold here in New YORK but if the sun is out then the top goes down and turn on heat. It has a 6 speed manual and 3.2L engine that has alot of good. Color is Imola red. Love the car, Ok I'm in my 70s and told by women your car is Hot
Yes it is. Time to hit the road😁👍
Heated seats seal the deal in open top winter driving.
Love it.
Luv and Peace.
Does he talk about the coupe?
god really has his prophets. what an amazing design.
Hi, is it possible to purchase the book ?
wher can I find the book?
Great
Are there any influences from the X-Coupe on the Z4?
Which bumper do you like, the original, facelift or the M?
I have a coupe with the facelift bumper but I want to replace it because it’s not in a good condition and I think the original looks good maybe better than the facelift, even compared to the m style. It looks more fluid and aerodynamic which seems in line the coupe style. Also it looks a bit more robust because of the smaller lower cutaway for the grille.
Brilliant design.
So which wheels fit the best to the car stying 107 or 108?
Great work by the way designing the best roadster ever made
108
@@sniperBOBAH style 230
Style 203 is the best
Style 108, easily.
Didn’t a 2006 BMW E85 3.0si do the fastest lap around manhattan ?
This is when BMW made sense …..
