    It is through Dave that I rediscovered Peter Green and turned a keen ear to him, and to Dave, naturally. You're a treasure, Dave! Love this tribute guitar.

      Same here, few years ago i was lookig for some guitars and saw Dave’s video on Peter Green sound ...after that i went full on Peter Green again! Also sometimes i just put Daves videos with this guitar ... Thank you Dave ! 😎

      bri w these guitars look and sound great . I recently got a chance to play an 82 Les Paul Custom and to be honest playing it at first straight into an old Fender amp it sounded just ok . Guy in the shop stuck a mini tube screamer in front of it and it was incredible. Have a Strat but the Les Paul was surprisingly great and easy to play .

    There's a vid at Namm 15 where Wilkinson says they did the out of phase thing with the wiring from the switch, so that's probably why the pickup change didn't alter the sound.

      No that you’ve had the guitar for a year now, what do you think about it? Was thinking about picking one up.

    • @petg12340
      @petg12340 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@markrosenquist8259 to be honest with you, I never play it. I bought it on a bit of a whim, and for a budget guitar it's fine. The fretwork is pretty bad though, the ends are the worst I've ever had (I've got 3 Vintage guitars, the other two are absolutely fine, so maybe I was unlucky with this one). The out of phase is decent enough, but I've got a Boss phaser pedal so I don't really need that function. All that being said, it's a decent guitar, but I've got way better Les Pauls which I play all the time. If you get a chance to try one first I would suggest doing so as I say the frets on mine need a lot of work, but if they don't on the one you try then I would definitely suggest going for it

      @@petg12340 Thank you for the info Peter. Yeah I’m a huge Gary Moore and Peter Green fan that’s why I was considering buying one. I have a few other guitars so I think I just might hold off on that. I’ve heard a lot of great things about Vintage but I’m a little reluctant. I think I’m going to keep saving for a Gibson Gary Moore sig. Thanks again for the info. Have a great rest of your weekend. 🍻🤙

    Those Vintage guitars are awesome. I just happen to have bought a black V100, everything stock. I just don't like the annoying buzz some of the tuning machines have. I might just upgrade to another set of Wilkinson tuners or some grovers. The stock pickups owe nothing to the Duncans I have on some of my other guitars and they serve my high gain, metal purposes. By the way I am a fan of your work. You get tone and playing just right. Keep on. Cheers.

    Dave can I ask a question please?does your out of phase tone come on when the back pick up vol is on 10?and when you dial down to say 7 -8 you get the std PAF tone?It seems to be what I get on mine?

    • @milfordclark1140
      @milfordclark1140 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Took me a while to get the volume settings right on this - if you put them equal they fight against each other.... because they are out of phase. Mine works best when dialed down to 7.

    Dave, here’s a question about that pgm guitar. I’m getting a vibration from the bridge. When I looked at it there is a wire running along the top of the adjusters with a bend down at each end. This is the bridge pickup side. This seems odd as I’ve never seen that before. I maybe thought it was for transportation to stop movement of the screws.

    Really enjoy your videos first of all.Great job.I have a question as well.How would you rate this vintage v100 in terms of playability? I had in the past a Vintage VS6 SG and it was terrible in terms of playability,the frets were really bad, without a possibilty to fix, buzzing everywhere.Maybe it was just a factory mistake or is just the common bad craftmanship of Vintage? I want to buy one, but I don't know if I'm willing to risk again.

    Would locking tuners be a useful mod? I think that Gary Moore did that to the original PG LP and he seemed to know what he was up to.

    • @thedavesimpson
      @thedavesimpson  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Alex Hollins Gary did indeed have Sperzel locking tuners on the Greeny Les Paul but Peter Green had Grovers on it. As for locking machine heads on the lemon drop. I've had no issues with the stock wilkinson ones so its really down to personal preference. :)

    I'm thinking about buying this guitar. I play a very wide variety of music, but I mostly play metal. Kirk Hammett of metallica (my favorite guitarist) plays a 59 Gibson Les Paul lemon drop and it has killer tone. I'd love to have one, but of course I cannot afford a real one, so I think this one would make a good inexpensive alternative. I'm definitely looking to get a Les paul of some type for my next guitar, it's probably gonna be this one or an epiphone. Which do you think would be better? BTW great playing Dave!

    • @thedavesimpson
      @thedavesimpson  7 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      I would recommend this one over an epi personally. Has that old Les paul thing in its tone. Thank you very much. :)

      Charles, Metallica is also my favorite band. That guitar Kirk plays is Peter Greens/Garry Moore's guitar. He bought it at a auction for 2 million. Dave's guitar is modeled after it. You can see it in the Metallica video Atlas rise.

      Epiphones have this weird thing going on, it's like a lack of bottom end, at least the ones I've played. I guess with the right pickups that can be remedied, but it's a pain in the ass to search and search until you find the right ones.

    Dave, I have the Vintage Lemon Drop reissue and the V100 GT and can attest to their brilliance. I bought the GT second hand for next to no money and the lemondrop was only £275 new. I dont understand why these guitars arent flying out of the show rooms. They are a best kept secret because there are too many guitar snobs who are overtly brand conscious, well the're the ones who are losing out - fools!

    • @thedavesimpson
      @thedavesimpson  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Howde. The pickups are just the stock wilkinson ones that come with the guitar. The string height is about a medium height. Its not on the frets but its not a mile high. :)

    • @elquammah
      @elquammah 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Ohh thanks for the quick answer you're the man ! So you left the neck pickup height as it was at first and just pushed the bridge pick up a little bit higher ? Do you have some measures for the pickups height ?

    • @thedavesimpson
      @thedavesimpson  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Sorry i forgot to put the pickup height. Silly dave. I actually have the neck pickup flush with the pickup ring housing and the bridge pickup is about 3mm above the pickup ring. So the bridge is higher than the neck. :)

      @elquammah 8 ปีที่แล้ว

    • @thedavesimpson

      nope. i like my pickups as low as possible. Thank you very much. :)

  • @areyouavinalaff
    @areyouavinalaff 7 ปีที่แล้ว

    it doesn't really matter which way round the pickup is because you're turning the whole thing. the only change comes from rearranging components of the pickup within the pickup to alter polarities and winding direction relationship.
    just looked at one of these lemon drops on ebay, knob alignment looks awful on it... I like them evenly spaced and some guitars les pauls just have the bridge tone knob just a bit close to the neck tone knob for my liking. my epiphone isn't perfectly spaced but it's barely noticable, it looks right. you're making me want lots of guitars lol.
