Debbie was an awesome assistant who deserves the bulk of the credit for accomplishing many of Paul's illusions. He was a terrific showman, of course, but she was not only a "looker" but played a pivotal role making the illusions look easy and effortless.
Thank you for showing us some of his work from the 80's and 90's. It's good to see some of the excellent past brought to the present. Keep up the goodwork PDmagicfan
I have a habit of working these tricks out in a matter of seconds, however i still have trouble working out paul's illusions! he is an awesome illusionist and an awesome guy!
I had this episode recorded on VHS when I was a kid. Always a magic enthusiast, I'd love to see it in full again. Do you by any chance have the season and episode number for this?
What is the purpose of the four blades (eight in total) either side of the cabinet, and therefore either side of Debbie? They remain inserted throughout the illusion? In fact he doesn't even remove them at the end.
I think they are there partly to make it look more impressive ("so many blades") and partly to hide the "fake" blade ends when they come out at the back. (I'm assuming that some of the blades he inserts collapse at the front and if we could see the tips coming out at the back clearly, we'd notice that they don't match his thrusting movements).
I think he used some mirrors? She is pretending that there is less room than there actually is. The swords bend somewhere or something like that. She is safe between some mirrors. Her dress also is playing some role in the illussion
Mirrors? She doesn't need mirrors. Some of the blades pass through the box but away from her body (note how narrow your body goes if you put your hands in a position like Debbie did) and others presumably collapsed at the front and had fake tips coming out the back. I think her outfit helps with the illusion too though. The outfit seems quite puffed up and she looks like she's filling the box at the start, but she was a slender woman that can squeeze into a narrow space.
Paul daniels why did your put a ladies in magic boxes and i like to be in the magic boxes with the ladies Paul daniel i like be in the magic boxes with Debbie
Was not his best trick ,debbie turns her body sideways, when he first turns the box at and angle, there is a back plate with blade tips that come out of the box when the blades are put through, some blades are folding blades ,some go through and push the back plate, in fact when paul removed the blades Debbie did not turn back ,and the fake sword tips were still poking out of the box,
You'll probably never see this but I don't know why people go have you sold it yet that's not the art of magic of course people like curious but just allow yourself to be taken away with the magic of the whole performance

It's not too clear, but at 3.56 I couldn't see the inserted blade exiting the rear of the cabinet.
