Idk how many times I've listened to this, but it's in the 100s... Love how E*st ends w/the Massive Attack lyrics.... This is why I listen to Triple J, even though I live in the US... You're a treasure, Triple J
One of the Greatest songs ever, let alone the 90s, Richard Ashcroft takes some beating, but the band seems to capture the essence of the song so well, along with tear drops really works. The Lead singer really creates a mesmerising sound you can get lost in. Keep up the great sound.
Gotta say, initially was skeptical but I quickly realised the voice was there to carry. The beat built up nicely. Interesting and original take on the song and the ending was just the icing on the cake. Rate this once very highly..
+jay ckb excuse the douche bags. Not all Aussies are as simple as these guys. Apologies from the Australian Nation - there are some fucktards in the world, and unfortunately Australia isnt safe either.
Danielle Stormont what? why are we douchebags? Cause we told him its a radiostation? because we told him he can listen to it online? or because i liked his car? please tell me which one offended you so much??? because honestly im pretty offended by you calling us douchebags and fucktards. your comment is by far the meanest and most degrading comment. so maybe you should take a look at yourself before you call other people really mean names
WOW! JUST WOW!! I've just witnessed a true artist. I can't believe someone so young is so incredibly musically gifted. I can't wait to hear more of her, I loooove her contralto voice - a range that is incredibly powerful, especially with her highly emotive and raw timbre. Love her!
This is one of the most beautiful songs I've ever heard in my life. I grew up with the original, but it never had the power that this cover has. She is some kind of musical genius. 17 years old! Amazing!
'Cause it's a bittersweet symphony, that's life Tryna make ends meet, you're a slave to money then you die I'll take you down the only road I've ever been down You know the one that takes you to the places where all the veins meet, yeah No change, I can change I can change, I can change But I'm here in my mold I am here in my mold But I'm a million different people From one day to the next I can't change my mold No, no, no, no, no (Have you ever been down?) Well, I've never prayed but tonight I'm on my knees, yeah I need to hear some sounds that recognize the pain in me, yeah I let the melody shine, let it cleanse my mind, I feel free now But the airwaves are clean and there's nobody singin' to me now No change, I can change I can change, I can change But I'm here in my mold I am here in my mold And I'm a million different people From one day to the next I can't change my mold No, no, no, no, no (Have you ever been down?) I can't change, oh, no I can't change, oh 'Cause it's a bittersweet symphony, that's life Tryna make ends meet, tryna find somebody then you die I'll take you down the only road I've ever been down You know the one that takes you to the places where all the veins meet, yeah You know I can change, I can change I can change, I can change But I'm here in my mold I am here in my mold And I'm a million different people From one day to the next I can't change my mold No, no, no, no, no I can't change my mold No, no, no, no, no, I can't change my mold, no, no, no, no It's just sex and violence, melody and silence It's just sex and violence, melody and silence I'll take you down the only road I've ever been down I'll take you down the only road I've ever been down Been down Ever been down Ever been down Ever been down Ever been down Have you ever been down? Have you ever been down? Have you ever been down?
One of the greatest like a versions ever. They killed it. Still remember listening at work and hearing Teardrop kick in around the 2 minute mark, i was so shocked! (Favourite song of all time)
It's just nuts. I think this song really highlights her talent. Her voice is so powerful. I love her in this. Went to watch some of the videos from her band and they're just not as raw and as emotional.
I really like this fusion between teardrop and bittersweet symphony, the beat is perfectly fitted for this version, alongside with her beautiful voice! nice stuff!
I respect immensely the talent and genuine interest of these artists to recognize and explore classics of genres that were and are not anymore. Personally, the main reason to listen to this covers is to rediscover the meaning of the song I once heard... And ultimately realize that the original has every reason to be a hit.
Why are these bands so absolutely wonderful? Every cover on this playlist so far has been beautiful, and because I'm an old fart I don't recognize any of them. Loving every second!
Oh my god. I am officially retro. This song (and the massive attack bit at the end) came out when I was in high school and I listened to it like crazy and it makes me nostalgic for that time... it doesn't feel THAT long ago.
Brillant! amazingly done! and I knew there were some keyboard notes and synths rhythms (min 3:06) from "Teardrop" before she actually starts singing it at the end, so that was a really nice surprise! Thanks guys!!!
Out of all the Like a Version series, I find that I keep coming back to this one. It's my favourite right now. I just love how she even paid tribute to the original song by using elements taken straight out of another song throughout it too, and putting it right in front of our faces with that beautiful teardrop outro. Any other Favourite Like a Version suggestions?
I remember Amali well. That was season 2 back in 2004. There was so many greats that season (Chanel Cole, Anthony Callea, Ricki-Lee Coulter, Courtney Murphy, Hayley Jensen. I remember Amali well though, she was young and had a good sense of humor, it was unfortunate she was knocked out like 2nd or 3rd in the top 12. Anyway, great version by E^ST.
Out of all the covers I've hear all year, this was the most clever. I'm loving this. Shame it didn't make it onto to the Like a Version Album this year!
The Verve is so massively popular, even if she is young, I'm surprised she didn't know about them earlier. They're still played on Aus radio even until now.
Very few times have I heard a cover and thought that I was listening to it for the first time all over again. Whoa! Nice sneaking in Massive Attack at the end as well. Well done!
And is it just coincidental that Massive Attacks Unfinished Symphony (an all time favorite) and the Verves Bittersweet Symphony share not only a similar title but the videos were both similar in that they were both filmed with the singer walking down a local street? The Brits had the Mojo in early 90s no doubt about it.
Oh wow. Oh wow oh wow oh wow! When I heard it this morning I was in awe when Teardrop came in at the end. But listening to it again I realise that the entire beat is Teardrop. It comes in so early and it builds and builds and then crescendos! And yeah. Definitely voting for it for 2015's #Hottest100
+Stephanie Goulding I was the same, it was only on the second listen that I realised how seamlessly the Teardrop beat and feel was woven into the song. Just brilliant
+Stephanie Goulding I think It makes a big statement. They followed suit with the original song. Just replace The Rolling Stones with Massive Attack. Who the f*** cares where it came from, when at the end of the day, they've made something awesome - a beautiful track that's a pleasure to listen to!
+Jason Girkin I agree re: their choice of mix. It's a masterstroke. The vocals are superb. And this is one LAV performance where I think the video really adds something special. The shoulders! And that little smile at the end! So great. I've watched this so many times. It's really a privilege to listen (and watch) some of the performances that groups deliver on Fridays. Matt & Alex have the best job!
Honestly, I wasn't digging this to start, but once it fully picks up at 2:47, it moved me. Listening over it again, from the start, I feel it. I picked up the Teardrop instrumentals and thought it was taking inspiration, but then to transition into the lyrics of Teardrop was incredible. This was an interesting listen, and while it's not 100% polished, it's good and has the potential to be a shining gem with some tweaking.
I must be getting old. I’ve just watched like 20 of these in a row and what I’ve realized is kids today don’t just mumble rap, they also mumble sing. I’m low key into it, just something I noticed.
omfg.....this girl can fucking sing..... this came up in youtube's 'my mix' which I just left playing while I'm cooking in my freezing cold kitchen tonight. So far there's only been a few crap tunes so I'm feeling preety much overall quiteimpressed with the improvement in the old youtube's algorithm..especially when all of sudden this girl's voice hit my ears...and you're saying she's only seven fucking teen???!!! wow

Holy shit a 17 yr old paying tribute to the verve and teardrop is amazing. Love it
if you haven't already you should watch Auroras like a version of Teardrop it is DAMN impressive i think shes only 17/18 aswell
The Aurora's cover was recorded this year, i think she's 21 now. And she's amazing
Leo Dobrodenka
2 lata temu
Auroral turns every songs into gold!
This made me so happy too see, love both songs!

Yeah I haven't heard much people do that song justice, she does.

UThgq top t
Her voice is incredible
Check out their cover of slow dancing in the dark.
Rather incredibly annoying
@@bassjajco Do you have hearing problems?
She might have hayfever, come on@@bassjajco
If you like people singing like they’re half asleep
All the tear drop beat running through the whole thing are spot on. Talented
How this song didn’t make the hottest 100 countdown is daylight robbery !
I agree!!!!
I literally can't believe it :(
Didn't even make the top 20 that year. Bought the cd thinking it would be on it.
❤
So stunning, the outro though ❤
This channel is magic. Thank you for these videos. This was special.

One of the best female covers of this song. I’ve had a hard time finding female covers of this song I like
Man, her vocals are incredible. The 2:45 mark.. that raspiness sound is amazing!! I watch this video periodically and get chills everytime.
Totally agree

+Michael Little glad I didn't read the description because that surprised the hell out of me
Stunning. Goosebumps when the echoes from Massive Attack were mixed in in the build up to the end. Gorgeous.

Beautiful work. Love that she keeps the aussie accent when singing.
I adore her winning smile at the end so much. Deserved!!!
How am I just now discovering this channel? So many good covers dude. Who else is here in 2019!

Can't stop re watching this... NAILED it!
Two iconic 90s tunes. Makes me feel old but happy.
Absolutely amazing would love to see live. Goosebumps on an older classic that I thought couldn't get better... Wasn't I so wrong..
I love how she does teardrop at the end...
One of the best covers I've heard so far!!! SO AMAZING!
Every year I come back to this. It never gets old it is beautiful.
Honestly this is the BEST Like a Version .... you can’t change my mind
I can't stop coming back to this video 😭
What I'm learning from this is that the meaning of a song changes completely from the way you arrange it and I'm FLOORED
Still coming back to both this and Slow Dancing in the Dark by E^ST as my favourite Like a Version
I can't get over how good this is. No joke, I listen to this more than the original lately. So talented, all of them
I LOVE HER omg i need more
It's just nuts. I think this song really highlights her talent. Her voice is so powerful. I love her in this. Went to watch some of the videos from her band and they're just not as raw and as emotional.
Yeah, their original music is ass tbh
This was unbelivable! So much emotion and perfection in 4min 30 sec. Stunned!
Her voice is so amazing😍!!
WOOOOWWWW!!!! This is tearing me up! So beautiful!

I completely agree. One of my all time favorites.
Tears...the emotion E^st bring to her own...WOW!
3:51 is so effin' powerful, it brings tears to my eyes. The audacity to hope... this is my anthem.
Wonderful range of vocals a cover of a song that has stood the test of time as long as talented souls keep pushing into each new decade
Her voice is out of this world.

Goosebumps is what this left me with omg
I’ve watched this video once every week since it was put out. It is absolutely amazing. It never ever gets old.
Just listened to this for like the 100th time and I still get tears in my eyes when she goes into Teardrop. This is like WOW! Lekker M!!
That girl back up singer was on Australian idol years ago...Amali Ward
I remember Amali well. That was season 2 back in 2004. There was so many greats that season (Chanel Cole, Anthony Callea, Ricki-Lee Coulter, Courtney Murphy, Hayley Jensen. I remember Amali well though, she was young and had a good sense of humor, it was unfortunate she was knocked out like 2nd or 3rd in the top 12. Anyway, great version by E^ST.
She is so pretty and talented
I started singing in the end and I'm not even a singer. I like her style . Musically she is crazy creative
A classic brought back to life . It’s like a breath of fresh air. Love your twist on it !
Woah! I was literally seconds away from switching over to another video, then that breakdown began! Awesome sound!
I haven't been so impressed by a cover in such a long time. Holy S**t...that's pretty much all nthe words I have. Talent. Thank you for creating this.
Out of all the covers I've hear all year, this was the most clever. I'm loving this. Shame it didn't make it onto to the Like a Version Album this year!
This is honestly so incredible!!! One of the best like a versions there are!! She's just incredible with that subtle husky voice - incredible!
Best Triple J ever IMO, goosebumps every time
Best cover of the year and the drop into teardrop was terrific. Doing justice to both originals while making it your own. Congrats
Holy fuck - she was born in 1998?! Damn, I'm old.
I felt the same lol 🥲
7 years older
Best Like a Version cover I've ever heard...and she's 17! Exciting times for East and Australian music - bravo!!
This song takes on a whole new meaning hearing this cover.
Left me in tears. Unbelievably beautiful song. Forever remembering the ones forever gone...
Wow @ 3:30 onwards, amazing. This is one of the best covers of this song ever to be made.
First time ive heard this group, blew me away. First time experiencing this channel today too and found so many groups
The massive attack piece was gorgeous. Great cover!
omg back again this is so good. will always be.
The Verve is so massively popular, even if she is young, I'm surprised she didn't know about them earlier. They're still played on Aus radio even until now.
She probably did know the song... Everyone knows that song tbh
You did justice to both songs. I had goosebumps listening 😭
Her voice is so amazing!!
Absolutely stunning, the emotions of this cover 🙏
This young woman and her band has made this iconic alternative song her own. Wow, what an incredible interpretation and the E^ST will someday be HUGE!
The absolute BEST Like A Version to date!!
Absolutely magic - love the addition of Massive Attack
Very few times have I heard a cover and thought that I was listening to it for the first time all over again. Whoa! Nice sneaking in Massive Attack at the end as well. Well done!
I'm totally in love of this cover ! love the teardrop blink at the end ! i'm listening to this on repeat
What a great and beautiful cover of Bitter Sweet Symphony !!!
When The Verve meets Massive Attack
And where London Grammar took their inspiration for 2018's cover. but it is not exactly
kkkk YEAAAAH ..best comment
Imagine if Massive Attack covered this?
And is it just coincidental that Massive Attacks Unfinished Symphony (an all time favorite) and the Verves Bittersweet Symphony share not only a similar title but the videos were both similar in that they were both filmed with the singer walking down a local street?
