- Today we're taking a look at a Cobra mercenary, an infamous saboteur .. today is all about FIREFLY!
*EDIT: He seems to have met his demise as I tell in this story but as we know in comic books, death is rarely a permanent thing. I see him on the cover of December 2019's issue 271 ... let's see where this goes!

I liked Firefly because he was Cobra's Snake-eyes in many ways. He and Storm Shadow were the two "Cobras" (not really in Cobra) that all wanted.
Firefly was my Ninja Trooper!
Most of my Joe's were used so I never had file cards on most of them. So I would make up my own back stories.
Basically he was a trooper that had been trained by Storm Shadow.
G.I. Joe has the best back stories for almost every character. They each have their own series. Incredible.
Rest in peace Ray. His Firefly was one of the things I actually liked in Retaliation.
You should have covered his appearance in the 2nd JOE movie...it was kinda nice getting to see him on screen. I used to love FireFly as a kid , he was my Favorite COBRA villain if not my fav from the entire series and all of G I JOE
Outlawstar79 He was the only high point of the film. Much like his role in Warzone, Ray Stevenson was perfect as Firefly.

My friend was going through his Transformers toys that was in a box and found Firefly as the only figure in his box. He gave it to me and I still have him. It's a cool figure.
I really loved the design in retaliation, he was vicious, sadistic and sarcastic and how cool the fireflies drones were, what's next, Gung-ho?

If Firefly is not a ninja like Storm Shadow because Larry Hama said so, then what is he, just a merc with spec-ops and ninja training? His design is a bit confusing. I'm only familiar with his 80s cartoon presentation. I always saw him as a demolitions expert. With a name like Firefly I simply expected him to blow things up and set things on fire. I don't remember him ever showing off any martial arts skills in the show. Good videos! Thanks.

In, what I thought was a very funny moment, the issue where Firefly, Destro and Fred attack Snake-Eyes cabin Airborne and Spirit Iron-Knife, who are trying, unsuccessfully, to keep a stealthy eye on Snake-Eyes, charge up the mountain to help. Both a Native American. When charging Airborne tells to Snake-Eyes not to worry because "the calvary is coming." Spirit Iron-Knife didn't like that. Airborne then said "What am I supposed to say, the Indians are coming."

Firefly: "For personal survival and the promise of riches!"
Me: "For comedy!"

Back in the 80's Transformers and G.I. Joe used to come on back to back from 4 o'clock to 5 weekday afternoons on WTXF TV 29 In Philadelphia. Very underrated character in the cartoon, but he was always one of my favorites.

Do Roadblock. Especially when he lead the JOES after they were accused of treason. It was his finest moment. That arc really showed what he meant to the team and his leadership capabilities

Sweet video! But if you bring up Ray Stevenson, you have to mention him as Tituss Pulo in HBO's series "Rome", his best tough guy role. He's absolutely phenomenal in a wonderful underappreciated series.

I have to correct you: Larry Hama did not answer letters back in issue 27. The editor, Denny O'Neil replied that Firefly was not a ninja. Since Larry wrote GI JOE page by page, I doubt that he knew that he was a going to make Firefly a ninja at that point....
Firefly was a member of the Koga ninja clan.

I had the first version of this Action Figure when I was a kid. I had no clue what a Saboteur was but, I knew that it was cool and Firefly became one of my favorite characters. I think it was the mystique of the madk AND the shadow camouflage. Kinda gave me a Batman vibe. 😎🇨🇦

Actually, Firefly just showed up in the mini Hama did that focused on Helix. He was hired by the group Helix is after to stop her. He does, but in the end a team of G.I. Joes shows up (looking for Helix) and he ends up caught. He betrays his employer by rating her out so she shoots him. In turn, Firefly detonates an explosive device on her which blows her jaw almost off! The mini ended with Firefly in Joe custody.
I guess all us kids made him a ninja because he looked like one.

The Bronze Age of DC Comics chameleons not in the comics as far as I’m concerned there is no chameleon in g.i.joe.
I think played the NES G.I. Joe game.But i do not remember Firefly being a boss.

There actually was no love triangle. The cartoon and the comic had their own continuities. Larry Hama never watched or referenced the cartoon. Snake Eyes and Scarlett were always an item in the comic and Duke was never part of that. Sunbow/Hasbro decided to make Duke and Scarlett an item in the cartoon and Snake Eyes was never part of that...
