      This one vs the A1 variant which one would you say better? Gonna buy one of these in 1 week. Both looks good, this one looks better than the A1, but A1 got Android one and 2x tele lens. Other than that, everything is the same.

    Note that EIS in 4k won't work on the 3 GB RAM version . The app (Open Camera, Cinema FV5) will either crash or there will be terrible frame dropping. Also , the secondary rear camera doesn't seem to be doing anything at all. No, it does not improve bokeh in the portrait mode. You can test it easily by talking two shots and block the secondary cam with your finger while taking one of the two. No difference at all. It doesn't help in low light either.

    Being a smartphone reviewer you should know why they call 18:9 ratio. BTW I never searched for it. An obvious reason that comes to mind is, that way a comparison is easily made with very famous 16:9 ratio.

    I see the pros of usb type c ports but for people who go for such a device (that price range) mostly have micro usb devices at home. I have a huawei p9 lite and I was quite happy that it was (unlike the p9) micro usb so the same cables for my tablet work with my phone and the cables for my playstation work too. my Powerbank has an inbuilt micro usb cable so it works for me. most of the non flagship phones that have usb type c don't support usb 3,0 so it's mostly only a different type of jack...

    • @goletra
      @goletra 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      K K If I get it correctly, the main advantage of USB-C is it's rated for fast charging, i.e. higher than 2A rating for micro USB. So if the phone is not supposed to have fast charging, it doesn't need USB-C

    Hey there. :)
    The plastic you are talking about saved my screen from cracking on my redmi note 4. :) Direct hit on corner from about 1m, concreate floor - only the plastic got a little demaged, screen is fine. :)

    • @Techtablets
      @Techtablets  6 ปีที่แล้ว +11

      I guess that's one positive of it then, handles the drops better.

    • @marceldiezasch6192
      @marceldiezasch6192 6 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      My top piece got loose after a horrible drop, guess it saved my screen as well.
      Everything was working fine, so I just instant glued it back on. Minor scratches aside it looks just as well as before.
      My friend's Mi A1 definitely has a more premium feel to it and I would gladly take USB-C, but I won't complain in this price range.

    Less and less reason to get flagships. I hope they release the redmi pro 2 with OLED Snapdragon 660 or something in between SD660 and SD636. 4000mah. Type C and headphone jack for about 300-350 euro. But this hope is almost perfect.

      Xiaomi use some pretty archaic methods of limiting their lower range of phones (lack of a uni-body and micro-usb), although i hadn't considered the fact you pointed out in the video which is xiaomi having a stockpile of micro-usb ports they want to get rid of. Thanks for the great review.

    The reason why manufacturer say 18:9 so the consumer realize that the screen is noticeably longer and can use that statement in the marketing. Physicologically we think that 16:9 and 2:1 is no big difference, but when we hear 16:9 and 18:9 it is more noticeable

    • @Techtablets
      @Techtablets  6 ปีที่แล้ว +5

    People say "18:9" bcos it gives some understanding about aspect ratio in comparison to 16:9. Like if I buy 18:9 smartphone it will be just like my 16:9 but a little longer, what is hard to say about 2:1 at first glance.

    A 4gb/64GB sells for €250,00 I think at this price a Mi note 3-like body wouldn't be too much to ask.

    To get quick charge speeds, do I need to buy a "Qualcom" USB 2 'fast-charging' cable, or will any USB 2.0 cable that says 'fast-charging' do the trick?

    I bought this device in April 2018. I really liked it, except the display it had been a user-friendly, good device. It lasted exactly 2 years. With sadness, I announce its departure from this world.
    Some detail: Suddenly it off-ed itself, and then refused to boot up. Black screen, nothing happened. The main board was replaced. Now, 2 weeks later the very same mistake again. I am not putting money into it anymore.

    Hey Chris, great job as per usual, quick question, I infact got the Redmi Note 5 same time you did, I love it, one issue thought, my notifications don't come through the whole time, sometimes they do, sometimes they don't. I have gone through all settings and everything seems to be on, have you noticed anything like this in your time with the phone

    • @Techtablets
      @Techtablets  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Like whatsapp for example. It's a fault of the Chiense ROM, global will fix this. I get most notifications, but what about mini stutters in the animations? Do you also see this. Like going back to the home screen, multi taking switching ups. It's why I mentioned that it really needs a patch I feel to fix this.

    I'll be upgrading from a Galaxy A3 2017 to this and there are a few things that will be downgrades. First of all my current phone has an AMOLED display which is really nice and it has an always on display for this reason (but it's also 4.7 inches) Also no type C sucks. I've bought a two meter type C braided cable and now I won't be able to use it😭 Otherwise very very good phone, especially the ROM support😉

    Just bought 4gb local Malaysia model. Want to upgrade to Miui 10 but don't know which version should I download because some info says on the internet that there's a single rear camera Redmi Note 5 from 2017 I think and there's Redmi Note 5 Pro for India market only. Why the heck Xiaomi needs to confuse people like this?!
    I just want to select my model and download appropriate ROM for my phone!

    Hi there! My old smartphone, the Xperia Z Ultra, broke down yesterday after 4 years of service and I was looking for a new one. Honestly, I was thinking about getting the Samsung S7, because it is quite "affordable" now (compared to it's original price). Fortunately I decided to do some research and I found your videos! They really helped me to decide to get the Xiaomi Redmi Note 5. It looks like a very decent device for a very decent price. Thank you so much for sharing your thoughts :)

    Regarding type c or micro-usb, they just want to distinguish their top range from their mid range phones. I doubt they stock that many ports, no self respecting manufacturer these days stocks more than they need or plan for. Still, it should have type-c in 2018, a bit silly really. But, by no means a deal breaker. The rest of the phone makes up for its omission. Wish it had NFC though.

    Excellent video. Agree fully with the statement that for a brand new phone, easily an incredible budget option. The most annoying thing about it is the software. Their obsession with trying to look like iOS sickens me. Another phone I'd like to throw in the hat is the Galaxy S7. If you can get one for around that price, especially the Exynos variant, you're laughing.

    great review and smartphone! Here's a tip: The next time you buy a Xiaomi phone and want Google Play Store and all that Google stuff installed, import it from Hong Kong. Here in Hong Kong, the specs are the same as the Chinese Edition, and it comes with Google Play installed. Hope this was useful!

    The ratio is called 18:9 in order to make a standardized comparizon. E.g. 16:9 the famous wide screen ratio and now you also have the notchy 19.5 : 9 ratio. Notice that 9 is the base value and one can clearly see which ratio is most wider.

    Hey bro im wondering is it worth to flash your note 5 when the global rom is released, cuz the chinese version gets updates earlier, maybe the most bad thing is the stock chinese apps, but you can delete them, right... And if the global version has 2,2f camera soo the chinese version could be the better choice. In Bulgaria this phone support 4g, but in some european countries it does not.
