Sat up on level one behind the backrow Cornets, Grimey were exceptional on that day. Amazing stuff from a band who know that they can do it on the day. Bravo.
When you hear a legendary band like the Grimethorpe - one of the UKs greatest musical hothouses - perform to this superb level you are listening to a marvellous blend of traditional excellence and current ambition.
A truly enjoyable and easy listening piece. I can't fault Grimethorpe. Webster gave me shivers, the basses were immense through out and the trombones were far more consistent than Cory. Cory's Solo trombone put to one side :/. Lovely performance. This makes someone smile and think about persevering and practising.
All this crap spouted about the piece not being challenging enough for championship bands is nonsense. You could even put All in the April Evening up for Championship bands and one band would still make it sound awsome and stand out above the rest.In my humble opinion it is not about how difficult a piece is, it is about who can find the most music in it and produce a stunning performance like Grimethorpe have done here
The piece was fucking shit! Why do we as a movement keep going back to the same piss-pot composers who write the same old garbage time after time? We have so many new pieces and composers writing modern, interesting music, but they are not getting used nearly as much as they should! Shameful! This year's piece seems to be a step in the right direction, at least.
Don't go or turn your computer or TV off. Now that you have done that just read the newspapers and see what's happening in the world and you will appreciate things a little better than venting your spleen on dedicated people who do their best to entertain you.
I personally didn't play in the open this year, but it was one of the most enjoyable pieces I've ever had to listen to.

@neilraymond1547 this is a six year old comment, Neil. Stop crying and get a grip.
I feel this was not challenging enough for bands of a championship standard , it was too simple a test .
Did you play the piece?
I think that might be a no for Mr Laup. :)

Hahaha anyone that says this piece isn’t challenging enough has either never played it or hasn’t played in a great top section band
