This was my first British Open (as a spectator of course!)....what a day!......I live in Canada now but Ive seen many regional and National contests since and this for me is still in the top 3 performances i've seen on a contest stage......Just a wonderful performance!
I was there for that day. Sat at the back in the choir stalls - fab location in the Free Trade Hall. Just a steady procession of excellent bands rolling out before me. [Or was it me rolling back and forth to the Abercromby?] Seem to recall seeing Harry sitting off to the side of the stage. Wasn't this Harry's last Open? RIP.

It was sadly Harry Mortimer's last Open . He passed away about 5 months later .
Excellent.
Grimethorpe 'own' this piece.
As they did with 'The New Jerusalem' later.
Untouchable.
Bravo.
