Not impossible. Just not designed to be locked in as square. And that is one of it's strengths. It allows you to easily set up a fence to accommodate blade drift, a reality of bandsaws. Something not easily done with a traditional locked in fence.
If you setup your bandsaw like Alex Snodgrass teaches, you will not have drift. 1) deepest part of Gullet centered on wheel. 2) blade tensioned with no more than 1/8" inch movement with light tap on blade. 3) side guides positioned 1/16" behind gullet. 4) thrust bearings set to just barely not touch the blade unless light pressure is applied and both bearings touch the blade at the same moment. Side guides also to this same adjustment.
