  • Let's walk through the process of tearing down a CJ7 full metal door. It's a little long, but there is a lot to do when you completely take a door apart.
    Parts that I found along the way:
    Paddle Door Handle Gaskets - ebay.us/Fi9YcP
    Side Vent Window Gaskets - Rock Auto - bit.ly/2SvglA4
    Side Door Weatherstripping - Rock Auto - bit.ly/2DW4Olj
    Or a Full Kit - Rock Auto - bit.ly/2HSY4IV

    Cool guy, great videos. I have 3 sets of cj7 full hard doors. 2 sets have the small handle to open and one set like yours with the flat pull handle.one pair is done and in brand new shape. I was surprised how much these old doors sell for , and even ones in terrible shape sell for a lot. The other to just need sand and primer and let the buyer do the paint. I am restoring my cj7 from high school. I found it in Montana, still had my original wheels and nerf bars on it. I really enjoy your videos and it’s nice to learn some new tips on doing things, I waited 21yrs to get my original cj7 back. And I am really enjoying working on it. I will be taking my daughters hunting and also let them drive it . They like learning about dads old rig. Again thanks for the very thorough videos,

      I am so sorry for not responding to this comment earlier (like 10 months earlier), but what a great story about your jeep. How cool is it that you found it and get to work on it again. And to share it with your kids. Mine have no interest other than riding in it and occasionally driving it. I don't know where you are in your restoration/rebuild but if you subscribe, then you will see a bunch more videos coming out in the next few months as I restore a new CJ7.

      Cool Guy thanks for the reply, I definitely never miss a video, and I am about done with the body and interior, it had no rust and was in good shape body wise, but all the hinges and diamond plate were things I took off which meant welding holes and a new paint job. Then I tracked down all factory hinges and put those back on , Also took awhile to find a factory 85 sport roll bar in perfect shape. Sold the big full on roll cage, I like the factory look with the mods to be period correct to match the time frame. Put in and rebuilt the heater and that system , very fun if your not in a hurry, I love the simplicity of them. Just have to have it painted it’s original dark honey metallic or D5 or 5D and done for now. I putting together a Chevy 350 power train in once I get everything I need for it. Oh and my cj7 was a spring special in 85, not that it means much , but it has some neat history I guess, I’m just happy I got it back. Thanks for the great video’s. A big thanks from Snohomish WA.

    I have a 1882 scrambler and my passenger door won’t open. I believe the door latch came off of the locking mechanism. Any tips on how to get the door open to repair?

    Great video, Thanks for sharing & well done, I'm using it step by step. I'm missing a door latch cover for the driver's side it was gone when I purchased the doors and top, do you know where I could find one?

      They come up occassionaly on FB market place in the CJ groups. If I had an extra, I'd send you one, but i don't. I do have a guy that has everything and is awesome to work with. Email me and I'll let you know who he is.

    Cool guy,
    When you remove the exterior door latch. There are the keyed metal pins and the spring clips that hold them in place.
    Do you know where I can find replacement spring clips?
    I broke two of them and can't seem to find replacements.

      That is a tough ask. I'll see what I can find, if anything. My suggestion right now is to keep and eye on eBay and FB marketplace. Might have to get the whole internal component. There are a few guys on FB that have a ton of pieces.

      Aftermarket or OEM? I think the CJ7 and wrangler doors were interchangeable till 97. Also, what part of the country are you in? Will help with the search.

    Hey so quick question. The plastic retainer pins for the door assembly. Of I accidentally broke one off is there a place to order these? If so what are they called? Oh and the plastic retainers at the base of the window opposite of the bolt. Is there a name for those?

    • @coolguy_CJ7
      @coolguy_CJ7  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Email me at dellis6914@gmail.com with picts. Otherwise “plastic retainer” may be all that I can call them :)

    Great teardown video. Do you know where I can buy replacement latch assemblies for a 1982 CJ-7? I haven't found many options. I live in California.

      Are you talking about the inner door latching mechanism?

    • @eriku571
      @eriku571 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@coolguy_CJ7 The inner latching mechanism that the two rods attach to. I got locked inside my Jeep this week lol... You unbolted it with the two torx bolts on the end of the door.

      @@eriku571 i can give you the contact info of a couple guys on FB market place that would have this stuff. You can always wait for a set to show up on ebay (they do occassionaly), or you can join this parts group on FB (I sell and buy pieces here all the time) and see who has a set. My reco would be the FB group.

    I have a '77 CJ-7, and the door handles are at the very rear of the door. How do I get the fixed small window out of the frame? I have removed every screw and bolt I can find, but that assembly still won't budge.

    • @coolguy_CJ7
      @coolguy_CJ7  ปีที่แล้ว

      As long as you e got all the mounting bolts removed, it takes a lot of effort the break the old rubber gasket seal that goes around the outside of the metal frame using a little heat won’t hurt. A good hair dryer or heat gun set on low will help to loosen the rubber.

    • @louieschirm8510
      @louieschirm8510 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@coolguy_CJ7 I finally got it loose last night. I got the big glass out, then saw a small bracket on the bottom of the long channel. I pulled that off, then the channel came out. It that point it was only rubber left holding the glass, so I started cutting with an Xacto blade to separate the small glass from the rubber by removing the rubber slice by slice. I eventually got it. Thanks for the suggestion. I will use that on the other door. No on to fix the cracks in the door.
