  • Welp it finally happened, a small oversight during a repair caused a major failure!
We stand behind our customer service and reputation, so this video is going to seem a little repetitive since we had to repair this turbo twice!
Something as small as the proper bearings in a turbo build can have HUGE impacts.
Watch the saga unfold as we work through the issues to get ‪@ScrappyIndustries‬ 4MD Schwitzer (‪@BorgWarnerCorporate‬) turbocharger running smooth again.
    This nearly-obsolete, vintage 4MD turbocharger comes from Sam's circa 1960s/1970s 60,000lb 280HP TD25C Bulldozer with International 817B Engine. Turbo p/n and crosses include 4MD-755, 4MD755, 148065, 702505C91, 702505C92.
Good thing we are core hoarders and expert parts scroungers!!!

Makes sure everyone hits that thumbs up button 👍
Helps us TH-camrs out a bunch especially when stuff like this happens! Your not doing anything right if you don’t learn something new everyday. These guys are the best in the business and the key is standing behind what they do. It’s what sets them apart. What I love about TH-cam is it’s real tv, not scripted stuff that you see on the big shows on the big name networks.
    Great job guys!

the right attitude makes life simple and the result is success. But the TH-camrs should be aware that TH-cam will take an growing share as your markets grows to maturity and leaving not much on the bone as Google has shown. I really enjoyed this vid as the simple honesty of admitting a mistake and making it right is what good people do, like I also love the C and C vids as they also show decent and honest business and also family people earing a good living. Cheers guys, thank you.

Honest and very informative video. Humans make mistakes. That's just part of life. Could have easily said it was a "bad bearing" and went on with it. But admitting that it was a human error and the wrong bearing used, to me, is the sign of a good, honest company being 100% transparent. And I very much respect and appreciate that.

ADS may have made a simple oversite with bearings and it cost the company time and money BUT, in the long run I bet it will pay off greatly because you are building an honest customer reputation. I for one would make you my GO-TO shop for any work I needed done.
We need more shops like yours !
So now you all know ( I didn't know either) there are two different oil systems used and NOT to confuse them :)
Thanks ADS ! I really enjoyed this video !

I bet the extra pair of eyes belonged to one of the old original guys that used to work on these turbos when they were still common place. This is one of those instances where you lose on the swings, but gain on the roundabouts. Already a well respected company. Excellent at what you do. Now putting the icing on the top for total customer satisfaction. I have bought cars, brand new. Salesman all over you like a rash. Drive off the forecourt and around the block. There's a fault. Take the car back in. Same Salesman doesn't want to know you. Having a company that stands by its products and resolves issues. Golden. May this incident generate you lots of new customers.

Great customer service. Ran into something similar with WIX filters. They manufactured nearly an entire case of 10 filters with wrong threads. However, they would NOT warranty their poor workmanship. WIX customer service admitted wrong doing in their assembly process, but left me on my own after several phone calls and emails to them.

Hey Curtis. While ADS may have come up short due to the bearing oversight on the fix of the turbo for Scrappy Industries' dozer turbo, ADS taking ownership of the issue in an open, honest, and direct way, has earned you all a small purchase from me.
While I have no need for a turbo, unless you have a turbo for a Nissan 2.5 liter engine for my 2016 Nissan Rogue 😉, I admire ADS for stepping up and making Sam and his turbo whole. So, this morning I bought a fender cover and a pair of mechanics gloves from the ADS website.

an honest shop. Also, its awesome that you managed to find a brand new center for that turbo, for a nearly 70 year old machine, that is crazy that either a new old stock was sitting somewhere for that long, or, that someone is making them again.

The simple fact is everyone makes mistakes, what defines you is how you handle those mistakes and rectify the problem.
One of my specialities is transmissions, transfer cases and differentials. Manufacturers make many revisions and updates to parts, components and procedures. Having the knowledge and ability to identify those differences and changes is critical. The problem is there is simply so many changes and variations to remember. Some changes are so miniscule they can only be identified with micrometers or calipers. I constantly take in jobs that have had repeatedly failed after being rebuilt elsewhere and who knows what incorrect parts have been installed by other builders which makes it even more challenging ro rectify the problems.

I so wish more companies did this. Owning up to their own mistakes, no matter what the reason. Like this was one that would be very, very difficult to know about unless you knew about this exact turbo. Yeah, it can cost the company a lot of money. However that gives the chance for new customers or returning customers to help fill the loss with actual work because of the better PR. Nice job with this one! Also I never knew brand new parts would fit *that* well together in these sizes, I always thought it would be a bit rough to begin with. Oh well, you always learn new things!

Respect to this video and the opinions given.
Ive watched a handful of these videos from this channel now; the guy on camera is good at speaking to us. I never find myself bored even though these are usually "longer" videos ( long for some people, not me ). Please keep this format

Shit happens. I was a mechanical cash register mechanic for years. We too had our failures and we had to make it right. Good job getting it fixed

Watched the hour plus presentation with great interest. I don’t own any construction equipment but found the deconstruction and rebuild (twice) informative. Area Diesel showed its integrity to all watching, which is in very short supply these days. Good job.
