I had an idea for Corey, which is take a socket and weld inside the lip, adding metal to approximate the shape of the broken screw, then use it to remove the broken screw, and if the screws usually break in the same way, then the same socket should be able remove those screws as well. One might also similarly add metal with a welder to a proper tool instead of a socket and use that to remove broken screws. Or weld a proper tool into the center of a socket?
It's fantastic to watch someone who knows what they're doing and has the skill and confidence to get the job done. Matt is a great general fixer, but knowing when to pass it on is also a great gift. A real pleasure watching an expert at work! This brought back a lot of memories for me, from my days in Vietnam as a "wheel & track vehicle maintenance specialist" (63H20). I became an injection specialist my last 6 months there and did a lot of calibration and rebuilding injector pumps and injectors and the calibration for "multi-fuel" engines back in 68-69. So many memories...thanks for this video, it was special to me.

Thank You for the honesty. Even expert tech's get thrown off. You could have edited that out but you didn't. Injector pumps are a beasts and so many different types and a million parts.. New Fan! Thanks.
I am a lifelong mechanic it was a pleasure to see someone who truly know his craft. You are the real deal ! I don’t know what they are paying you but it is not enough! You know these pumps inside and out. No guess work. As a Ford dealership mechanic from forever ago, we had these pumps on the 6.9 and 7.3 IDI diesels. We could not change thing on them and we’re only allowed to check the transfer pressure. One issue they had was stalling when coming back to an idle. Gosh if I didn’t replace 100 of them over the years I didn’t do one. Unfortunately the rebuilder Ford was using was no Corey. Once I had to replace three before I got a good one. They were blaming me ! You guys are top notch and if I need a pump repaired your the guys!!!
To the tech who built the pump. You did a great job explaining everything. Please protect yourself better from the fluids. I developed kidney cancer from cuting fluid exsposure. And what you're working with is basicly the same thing. Protect yourself and keep up the great work!
I saw what you guys were doing for a few years, except this is actually the first video I watched from you. As for Matt, I was watching his TH-cam channel for a few years, ever since he bought that abandoned hall. He's one of my favorite TH-camrs.
I knew when he pulled the pump without the drive shaft his goose was cooked lol. I used to rebuild those Roosa's/Stanadynes up here in NH at Lakes Fuel Injection 25 years ago (when the DS's were failing left and right). At least the updated cam screws didn't break as easily. Great vid, it's nice to take a stroll down memory lane, and also watch Matt make a swirl down the drain on this one heh heh
EDM is a pretty awesome tool. Broke a bolt in a cylinder top, then broke the extractor in the bolt trying to remove it. Luckily a local machine shop came to the rescue with this tool.
There's a reason people should go to specialists...you don't generally know what they do. Having the tools, knowledge, and experience is worth the money. From a retired mechanic, your videos are humbling.
the complexity of that pump is staggering. i have never seen so many parts in a pump in my life. but then, i am not a pump expert. Corey is an amazing technician. i can not imagine the patience it must take to do what he does. if he can fix that, he can fix anything. absolutely fascinating! you guys are top notch.
Matt sent me over here on a tangent. You ladies might want to snap this guy up, he pays attention to detail, got a memory like a safe, and works magic with his hands. This guy might just be an actual rocket surgeon. Nothing like spending some time around a guy that actually has mastered his craft!!! EMPLOYEE OF THE MONTH.
These videos are a treat and highly educational. My god those pumps are complex. My hats off to people who understand them and can spot the problems and repair them and put them back in service.
Wow Cory is surely an expert in his field. I am sure Matt would have been able to reassemble the pump had that bolt not broke but he made the right call sending it in. That was an impressive calibration system you have there.
Matt from Diesel Creek spoke very highly of your business. It's pretty obvious why he feels that way. Last week if someone had told me I'd watch a 1-1/2 hour video of someone rebuilding a diesel pump, I'd have said they were nuts! After watching it start to finish, it was totally fascinating. I've watched a lotta TH-cam videos but this exceeds them all in professionalism of the work being documented. Your work is amazing.
My gosh! you had me completely transfixed the whole time, Mate, you are worth your weight in gold, and yes I'm a fan of Diesel Creek. Watching you work your magic, I couldn't help but wonder at the amazing engineering mind behind the original concept of the design of these pumps, Wow!
I’m alway amazed at the complex engineering over the decades of development in diesel power technologies. Those innovative mechanical pioneers of the twentieth century didn’t have fancy computerized test benches.
I'm a hoarder too. I'm 71 and I'm constantly repairing, creating, modifying, inventing. I think of what I do as making something out of nothing and the nothing I use is stuff that other people throw away. The most mundane little piece of junk can often be the perfect starting place for the part I need to make a repair or create something to solve a problem.
Matt, Matt, Matt……, what are we going to do with you..? Know when to seek out the pro’s for these occasions…., hahahaha..! Nice work Tech “Cory”… Great video..! Thank you Area Diesel Service.
As a Veteran Coast Guard Aviation Machinist Mate I have absolutely no doubt that Cory could have been a top notch jet engine mechanic end up in charge of a major airlines main egine repair facility. Dude has professionalism up the wazzoo.
I’m like Matt just take it apart to see what it looks like then send to a professional to fix it properly. Wow the amount of parts in those pumps are crazy.
Watched every minute of that young fella’s immense knowledge! Love Diesel Creeks content, old iron, and your companies abilities to repair pumps from this era with knowledge is Impressive! I have passed your facility on Rt .30 in Warsaw, Indiana many times and it gave me no introspective of the quality of your work! Give that young fella a raise, just for his knowledge and thorough attention to detail of this project and many more, I’m sure!

Yes he is Matt is very Talented Mechanic for Sure... as an ex John Deere Apprentrice Mechanic from Canada. Besides all you Talented Fellows I do Believe that too many others could solve that problem Cheers eh
Thanks for taking the time to film and post this video. I've always been fascinated by how mechanical things like this work. Kudos to Corey, for not only knowing how to put it all back together and make it work again, but his thorough understanding of how each piece functions, and how it all works together to make it all work, and the ability to explain it all so well!!! Keep up the great work guys!!! Cheers, Al
Its very refreshing to watch specialist videos like this. Well done. A technical area that mechanically minded people know about and defintely worthwhile watching for educational purposes.
I laughed my Butt off when I saw Matt taking that pump apart ,he should have sent it to you straight away and not have messed with it ,I love watching you guys do your magic, there are some things best left to the professionals, which these guys are. The injection pump is the heart of a diesel engine ,WOO HOO to Area Diesel Service ,What a fantastic tutorial Thank you
HELLO from Las Vegas Nevada This is a very good video I follow Diesel Creek for over 5 years Now I will follow you to. GOD BLESS YOU AND YOUR FAMILY GOD BLESS THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA
I will never again be dumbfounded at the price of new heavy equipment after watching this. The engineering that goes into one of these monsters is astonishing. What would a new pump like that cost?
This particular pump has long since been discontinued. Where there are similar new units available they will often exceed the value of the equipment they belong to.
I discovered this issue when I bought a John Deere 2020 from a scrap metal yard. The injection pump had to be rebuilt. The rebuilders had to get a machine shop to create a new part for the throttle advance. Years ago, John Deere recognized that that model of pump was defective and they replaced many of them. I thought that I got off easy with a cost of only $650. The tractor ran well. Of course I had to put in new liners and pistons.
I hope that your channel takes off. Collaborating with DC is a super idea. Matt provides hours and hours of interesting entertainment. My week isn’t complete without some Diesel Creek viewing. Good luck folks.

Your expertise is very admirable. I'm amazed at the smart people that built this originally, and to you folks at ADS who have what it takes to assess, diagnose, and fix and bring old pumps back to working order. Good work to all at ADS!
Corey, I’ve got some questions for you: 1. Any reason why you couldn’t heat the housing to get it to expand around that part and release it? 2. Can’t you get a tool made to turn it with a ratchet before you cut the housing? 3. Carburetor cleaning solvent can dissolve 99% of the crud inside that pump, have you tried soaking a pump for 48hrs to see if it releases? 4. Would you be willing to try any of these in the future and let us know if any worked for you? These questions come from what we used to do while repairing injector pumps for various military applications. I’m no expert and what I knew I’ve forgotten, not only because this was 40yrs ago but because of a stroke. Best wishes and thanks for sharing your expertise with us couch potatoes.
I tend to start your videos thinking that I will jump around, since there is so much detail, and in general watch about half. Often, I find myself watching it all anyway even though I don't expect I'll ever be working on Diesel engines. I guess that means your videos are too long for entertainment, but probably right for education.
Wow! The screw from hell! I don't think it would have mattered that Matt broke it. You would have had to extricate it this way anyhow maybe. It is what it is.
Watching Cory rebuilding that unit convinces me as a Coast Guard HH52a Seaguard amphibious helo Flight Mechanic who at times had to adjust the fuel metering unit on GE T58 turboshaft engines I've absolutely no doubt that he could be an FAA certified jet engine Mechanic. He definitely has the intelligence and work habito to rebuild pretty much every section on any jet engine. Area Diesel Service is lucky to have such a talented young man working for them. I find ADS videos to be really fascinating and entertaining. Matt was smart to send his almost FUBARed unit to them. Now he'll be able to get that beasts engine running reliably if the injectors don't need to be sent to ADS also. I have a sneaky suspission they should be to save Matt some serious fuel costs and the engine to run cleaner.
Is that all you have to do to rebuild one? I could do that one handed! 😂 not hardly, you’re like a dang wizard with that pump, that’s wild! You can tell you’ve been doing it a long time, thanks for helping Matt out!
You guy's are great. This video was more enjoyable to watch than any training class I've attended. I like diesels over gas anything but have been Leary of turning a wrench on them. I started at 18 at a junior college injector rebuilding class in 1979 and was leary when the instructor had stated, "if you do this wrong and the truck driver breaks down on the road after your repair, he's coming after you with a wrench!" YIKES! Great video!

We appreciate it - thanks for watching and hopefully you'll enjoy some of our other collabs/content as well.
"I came, I saw, I made it worse". Story of my life 😂
I genuinely had no idea that there was so much stuff in a diesel fuel pump. Respect on being able to sort one of those out.
Back in the 70,s I used to rebuild Allison 750 DRD transmissions.....my memory is shot and definitely couldn't handle that pump. Awesome job Cory!
EDM is a pretty awesome tool. Broke a bolt in a cylinder top, then broke the extractor in the bolt trying to remove it. Luckily a local machine shop came to the rescue with this tool.
If time would have allowed, we wanted to give it a try - so now we have some ideas for future content!
Thanks for collaborating! I love all things diesel!
There's a reason people should go to specialists...you don't generally know what they do. Having the tools, knowledge, and experience is worth the money. From a retired mechanic, your videos are humbling.
Tell me you watch Diesel Creek without telling me you watch Diesel Creek: "Contact!" Yup, that works, your team is awesome! :)
I admire how smooth and neat work by the technician. That man know what he is doing.
the complexity of that pump is staggering. i have never seen so many parts in a pump in my life. but then, i am not a pump expert. Corey is an amazing technician. i can not imagine the patience it must take to do what he does. if he can fix that, he can fix anything. absolutely fascinating! you guys are top notch.
Those Stanadyne/Roosamaster pumps are actually known as cheap, simple pumps, which is the scary part.
Its basically a whole mechanical injection unit, a pump is a tiny part of what it does
Matt sent me over here on a tangent.
Wow, that pump rebuild is much more involved than I imagined!
These videos are a treat and highly educational. My god those pumps are complex. My hats off to people who understand them and can spot the problems and repair them and put them back in service.
I now know that it is better to let the experts handle this repair.
Cory rocks, thanks to Area Diesel service for getting Matt at Diesel creek back running
My gosh! you had me completely transfixed the whole time, Mate, you are worth your weight in gold, and yes I'm a fan of Diesel Creek. Watching you work your magic, I couldn't help but wonder at the amazing engineering mind behind the original concept of the design of these pumps, Wow!
Glad you enjoyed it!
You guys are the best! Fixed up Matt’s basket case like real pros!
He even threw in a "Contact!" just like Matt, nice.
Matt, Matt, Matt……, what are we going to do with you..? Know when to seek out the pro’s for these occasions…., hahahaha..! Nice work Tech “Cory”…
Great video..!
I would be as likely to screw around with that pump as I would be to do my own root canal.
I am a clockmaker and watchmaker. (And that stuff can get really complicated).
But no way in hell would I risk trying to repair one of those fuel pumps!
Kudos to you guys on some serious repair skills!!!
I never realized how much goes on inside that 'little black box' of an injector pump. Thanks for the video and all the ins and outs.
Your a wizard. Never again will I question high pressure Pump rebuild.
I have no idea what an injection pump is or does, but I watched the entire video. You are a true expert.
The best presentation ever! If I ever have an injection pump problem you're getting it. Big fan of Diesel Creek, WWW, and ADS.
Appreciate it and we have some of the best fans and collaborators and especially fans that have come to us via those collaborators!
Hi, really impressive workmanship. It shows never to attempt to tamper with things but to leave it to the experts.
Nice to see specialists coming to the rescue. Good Job there guys!
You tube producers should take note, this is what expertise look like, not five minutes on Google. What a delight to see real knowledge at work.
I luv ol engines , no bloody computers , plastic etc. Just good old metal. I miss those days
I laughed my Butt off when I saw Matt taking that pump apart ,he should have sent it to you straight away and not have messed with it ,I love watching you guys do your magic, there are some things best left to the professionals, which these guys are. The injection pump is the heart of a diesel engine ,WOO HOO to Area Diesel Service ,What a fantastic tutorial Thank you
HELLO from Las Vegas Nevada
This is a very good video
I follow Diesel Creek for over 5 years
Now I will follow you to.
GOD BLESS YOU AND YOUR FAMILY
GOD BLESS THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA
Very interesting. It's good to watch someone who knows what he's doing expertly repair something. Thanks for sharing.
I hope that your channel takes off. Collaborating with DC is a super idea. Matt provides hours and hours of interesting entertainment. My week isn’t complete without some Diesel Creek viewing. Good luck folks.
that was a master at work. nice shop inspected cleaned tested with a cool machine. new parts as needed..and fully adjusted..wow..
*- Cory, WHY was the cam screw so exceedingly stuck and hard for even you to get out once you split the casing?*
*- Were there any "tell" signs at all as to what caused {could have caused} the sticking?*
*- Excellent educational video for us all. Thank you. And thank for collaborating with Diesel Creek.*
*~ ~ ~ ~ ~*
*- The complexity of your work and craftsmanship far exceeds even the most complex watch repair videos I have seen.*
*- It would be a very good career path for many of today's youth to follow who have brains enough to stay as far away as possible from college/university education now a-days and head toward union trade/craft schooling or polytechnic level post high school as best fits.*
*- Thank you for showing young people the feel of how rewarding and intelligent your vocation is...and the sustainability of your income stream source, since no AI-robot could ever fix itself.*
*- Only a human could and can do what is needed for complex machinery...PAY ATTENTION to what is hidden in this video from the stupid youth who go off to get status from what today's useless university education offers young people. Girls are breed to be smart enough to see smarts where they are AND the security of what real smarts can provide. You can always read books and learn a good and proper liberal education on you own...and learn to talk like a university educated level person and proper table manners any time you want to do so...you don't need to be abused by the useless "college experience" of today.*
*- {B. Sc. Chemistry & B. Ed Special Education & reconnoiter of the USSR educational system at Moscow State University is the limit of my experience level}*
Sticking happens in any diesel pump if you let it sit for years, especially with modern biograde fuel.
@@mrfrenzy. .
*- Thank you for the explanation.*
*- I wondered if there was a metalic micro-flake dross that might have been found.*
*- Yes, I have heard about such biograde fuel issues.*
*- I guess the molecules "denature" and form into glue like substances.*
You offer hoarding services? Excellent. My wife will be so happy.👍 Enjoy the collaboration with DC and WWW, 2 of my favorite channels. BTW I know nothing about diesel engines, just like to watch professionals at work.
I have had many oops moments in my time on working on parts thank you for showing yours and being cordial about it.
Super clear description note from Matt. lol..., Big fan of Diesel Creek videos.
Your expertise is very admirable. I'm amazed at the smart people that built this originally, and to you folks at ADS who have what it takes to assess, diagnose, and fix and bring old pumps back to working order. Good work to all at ADS!
Corey, I’ve got some questions for you:
Compliments of @DieselCreek channel! 🙂
I tend to start your videos thinking that I will jump around, since there is so much detail, and in general watch about half. Often, I find myself watching it all anyway even though I don't expect I'll ever be working on Diesel engines. I guess that means your videos are too long for entertainment, but probably right for education.
In one word to describe this video,BRILLIANT !
Came here after watching Diesel Creek's video. New sub.
Thanks for the sub!
Is that all you have to do to rebuild one? I could do that one handed! 😂 not hardly, you’re like a dang wizard with that pump, that’s wild! You can tell you’ve been doing it a long time, thanks for helping Matt out!
If you can believe it, Corey has been with us for over 10 years!
I came from Diesel Creek watching Matt, this was just amazing. Thanks!
Thanks for stopping by!
Glad you enjoyed it!
Excellent video ADS. I have been following you for about 2 years. Started when you worked with WWW and his Oliver Tractor. I also follow Diesel Creek, so I was waiting for this video to drop. The skill level of your technicians is unsurpassed. They can take a bag of parts and reassemble everything into a working end product, in this case a diesel injection pump. Thanks for posting and sharing this adventure.
Thanks watching, the comment and being a dedicated YT fan!
