    Oh man!! You NEED to see the trilogy, if not just for its soundtrack. THE greatest score ever composed for film, and I don't think thats an controversial take at all.

      Honestly the only trilogy that, in my opinion, holds up to the greatness of the books. Not saying it’s better, but it’s just as acceptable if someone wants to get into LOTR to watch the movies rather than read the books

      @@JesperVille It's a testament to the greatness of Tolkien, the film genius of Peter Jackson, and the power of Howard Shore's score - that despite butchering the books and missing exactly all of its most important themes, its still one of the best movies, movie trilogies, of all time.

    The nature of LotR's soundtrack and what Howard Shore did with it makes it so that you really can't just listen to a song in a vacuum. Shore builds themes for various places and characters, each one has their own, and then he purposefully weaves them in and out of compositions in order to achieve a desired effect and emotions. On its own this track is great. Within context of the trilogy it's even greater because it ends the story. But within the context of the soundtrack itself it's greater still because it includes within it at least 3 separate musical themes which were used previously: The Fellowship and the Shire can both be heard here and they matter a lot because they were present throughout the trilogy. Then at the end can be heard "Into the West" which was teased previously during a somber scene which almost predicts the ending in a way. Shore does this occasionally and, even though I am an amateur when it comes to music, I'd say he does it masterfully. Great example of this is what he does with the Gondor's main theme throughout the trilogy, how he starts it off, slowly builds it up, and how he makes it explode later on during a key scene.

    Had an honor of seeing this film on the big screen a few weeks back. It was a magical experience. When we got to the end I was weeping like a child. This music does something to me that is beyond words. Loved hearing what you had to say.
    And to add to that, even if you never watch these films, please listen to the full scores to these films. The genius of Howard Shore CANNOT be understated. What he produced can't have been from this world.

  • @RobinsMusic
    @RobinsMusic ปีที่แล้ว +17

    Side note: Lord of the rings uses a lot of leitmotifs that are reused throughout the film, so to get the full experience of the music you’d have to watch the film to understand the use of the leitmotifs

    The Lord of the Rings films are some of the few that can consistently make me bawl huge man tears, and this music in Return of the King (every time it appears, be it during this scene, Pippin and Gandalf's conversation, or "I CAN CARRY YOU!!") is a huge reason for that. Long live Howard Shore!

    God, this trilogy is just a masterpiece. Beyond a masterpiece. Everything about it is so good. So epic, and beautiful, and suspenseful, and wondrous and so many many more things. I'll be saying this until the day I die, and it still won't be enough. The soft Shire theme never fails to bring a nostalgic tear to my eye

    This is one of the final songs of the movie, sir. ^_^ So it has quite a few scores wound up in it. I highly recommend the movies as well as their soundtracks. The music is absolutely breathtaking. So many songs from LOTRs bring such nostalgia. One of the most moving for me is The Ride of the Rohirrim. The song for the credits of this movie (in which the 'refrain' of The Grey Havens is played) is sung by Annie Lennox and titled "Into the West".

    There's a reason the soundtracks for these movies won 3 Academy Awards, 3 Golden Globes, and 4 Grammies. What Howard Shore did on those movies is all-time classic level stuff. Movie soundtracks don't get much better than that.
    If you want to do more from these, "Concerning Hobbits" and "The King of the Golden Hall" are two personal favorites. And of course all the end-credits ballads with guest vocalists, like Enya and Annie Lennox, will just rip your guts out.

    Could I have a suggestion too? Far Cry Blood Dragon and Modern Warfare 2019 OSTs.
    Blood Dragon is an absolute parody of 80s and 90s stuff. VHS tapes, retro future, neons and lasers, cyborgs, hollywood action heroes.
    It's really cool and lighthearted and the energetic synthwave OST matches it perfectly. Even some of the motives in that music are parodies of known things like the Terminator soundtrack.
    MW2019 is like the polar opposite. The game takes place in a fictional Middle East country where local freedom fighters fight a brutal occupation regime put in place by Russians (Afghan/Chechnya style).
    The Russians don't shy away from using gas or phosphor bombs on the population. Meanwhile the British special forces sent to help the freedom fighters don't pull their punches either and are brutally efficient and morally grey.
    Once again the OST matches the in-game story perfectly. Only this time it's not lighthearted synthwave anymore. The OST is dripping with dread, yet it's quite clever and creative and covers both the action sequences and the slow lore filled sections of the game perfectly.
