Something EVERYONE overlooks, Aragorn was aware of Gandalf's promise, King Theoden was not. Theoden was truly the greatest king, he rode to his death TWICE, for his people, and to help others. Such a great character, I thought he was the best King of them all.

I just realized something about Gandalf. He has the ring Narya which has the power to inspire others. It even gives the viewers of the movie inspiration and hope. All is about to be lost, the Orcs are banging down the door, there's hundreds if not even thousands outside. Gandalf doesn't even have to show his face for the viewers to be relieved. All we need is a bright window and his voice and we all know hell is coming for those Orcs and that those left in Helm's Deep are now safe

Gandalf timed this attack so that the sun coming up over the mountain would happen at the same time as the charge. Uruk-hai can tolerate day light unlike orcs, but they still do not like it and it puts stress on them, especially suddenly like this. It's part of the reason their spear wall defense completely failed.

Low key, the best scene of the entire franchise. This is THE pivotal moment of the story.
Théoden has grown to be my favorite character. A great but past his prime warrior king that after a moment if doubt, collects himself and summons, in the face of certain death, the strength for one last great battle. and he would have an encore later. Dude is boss lvl.

Totally agree with you. Saw it just after it was released in theaters with my friend. Whole movie was amazing especially this scene. Now, years later now that I'm 37 almost 38 in a few days, and losing loved ones, I get many of the quotes in these movies, like when Frodo wished the ring hadn't come to him and Gandalf said " So do all who live to see such times, but it is not up to them to decide. All you have to decide is what to do with the time that is given to you". Or when Frodo was saying as he was finishing that book just before Sam came in.

They were slain by Melkor, the first dark lord, and Ungoliant, the mother of Shelob. All evil things hate their light, because in them is the light of the Trees. Gandalf appearance is that of an old Wizard, but his real name is Olorin and he is of the Ainur, immortal spirits made of the thoughts of Eru Ilúvatar (Tolkien's God) before the creation of Arda (where Middle-earth is).
Olorin took part in the Song of Creation (the Ainulindalë) in which Arda and everything on it were created.
Olorin is the wisest of the Maiar, a suborder of the Ainur. In Tolkien's Legendarium he is over 61.000 years old.
This is why the Elves hold him is such high regard, he is littarly one of their creators and they all know him from birth, so some if them have known him for 10.000 years or even more, by the time of LotR.

nobody appreciates the Urukhai, who, at the moment Gandalf appears with the Rohirrim, face them in a phalanx and don't look scared, but ready to fight. And when I say phalanx, I mean that second in which the director deliberately shows the spearheads that are pointed at the riders, well, if that isn't a cinematographic masterpiece in the details. I mean: 'look east' could be considered magic in the moment when the sun blinds the Urukhai, but in reality it is just timing and still an absolutely superbly done scene. Gandalf doesn't do magic, he takes advantage of the orcs' natural disadvantage by striking at the right moment, just genius

I love all of King Theoden’s speeches (all lotr speeches tbf). While charge of the Rohirin is monumentally epic, I equally enjoy his speech in the two towers, him realising that his final stand should not be for his own personal glory in death, but rather for his people combined with ;” Fell deeds awake” is just such a nerdgasmic badass thing to say
