talking of Pommern being T9, and occasionally being matched against t10 and superchips, that's what happened yesterday with my Agir. I was the one of 2 t9 ship, everyone else t10 or supership. Completely lost will to play, decided just to rush in to get it over as quickly as possible and go play a normal match. Boy was I wrong and did I have a good match with great rewards. Never be discouraged by being a t9 in a tier 10/supership game :D
Was expecting one of the UK T10s to get a mention. Could have been the Conqueror being able to heal the entire ship or St V being just nuts or Thunderer as ultimate HE spammer.
Pommern being in this list and being called for actually hitting stuff....my Pommern certaily didnt get that memo, cause it cant hit the broadside of a barn from the inside xD
i dont even own the tirpitz, but i thought it would be on the list. It made quite an intro when it arrived. Also I believe it paved the way for the Pommern and Odin. Anyways, thanks as always for a great in depth review of these wonderful ships.
Ohio or St Vincent should be there in this list. Also, while Warspite used to be OP for her tier, with Mutsu basically being the Nagato A hull being introduced, she's not the bully she was. Also she eats citadels at unexpected angles. Weirdly, inspite of having massachussets and the bismarck sisters, my usual go to BB in tier 8 is the Borodino. That thing is so underrated. Its basically a T8 stalingrad (minus back turret) with 12 km radar. Hyper accurate salvoes at range +passive meta have pushed me to go for it i guess.
I kind of agree with the St Vincent (don't know Ohio), but I also disagree... a battleship is (should be) the beef on your flank, tanking and spanking to hold your push or hold theirs back... Especially with how many battlecruisers we have nowadays, they deserve their own, separate category really... you could even make a case to put Bourgogne in there (freeing up space for Ohio)
Before they broke secondaries, I had my Yama secondary built, 10.6km if I recall right. It is like having an Atlanta hanging on each side. Any DD that would try and jump you, would be melted in no time.

Preferences and nitpicking would certainly apply.
After only a few days with the B version, I am surprised you did not include the Kearsarge in the list. Ignore the planes, the guns are amazing. Also a bit surprised either the GK or the Schlieffen was not on the list.
I run secondary Bourgogne BECAUSE it’s not meta and ideal, if a ship has a semi-viable secondary build I always run it just to have goofy fun. Karl XIV Johan is great fun to run them on, for example!
I would also suggest the GK, Ohio, Massachusetts, Schleffen, and Vermont. Third place would be Karl XIV Johann, Georgia, Jean Bart, Incomparable, and Iwami. These all have gimmicks, so more and some less.
Pommern was shining few years ago, I remember it was my 1st coal ship and the one which got me easy through early ranked (no leagues, just save ranks) with broken almost 75WR serie (I think it was 15 wins out of 21 matches to get to 1st rank, while I was suffering with Iowa in those ranked). But its still funny and good ship, it was great doing for me in last Assymetric battles. Bourgogne.. oh yes, she holds my personal dmg record (although in Concealed maneuvers with half of team with bots too), anyway faced couple of players too, so it did 350K for me there. But it can do well in other modes too. While Monty is my 1st T10 BB, I didn't play it few years. But what is surprising about her, it didn't get AFAIK any buff or nerf during time. It seems to be probably one of best balanced ships from start.
1. Adding subs 2. Adding CVs 3. Adding WTF Hybrids, excluding real historical ships like Tone. (Kearsearge was the start of the rot...) 4. Removing Epicentre battles 5. The Pan American cruisers disaster - WG were given the full tech tree as a list and didn't use it.

Montana was my second t10, such a fun pallete cleanser for me The Pommern, i have been running that funny furious build on it with the commander changes, it seems pretty good, you can use the city known as superstructure anduse the fires with all the HE spam at t9-10/11 Notice how two are the oldest BBS in game and on the others, the biggest gimmick is a reload booster on a hard to aquire ship

Is it worth the credit sink and slower reload to have more guns forward? More generally, I noticed that no super-ships made your list, and I wonder what you think of them. FYI, I am a newly returned player (only 500 Random Battles) after many years' absence (I was technically in the Beta test, but I played maybe three battles!).
Your top 5 aren’t unexpected. Though I think the one BB you forgot to include was Giulio Cesare; when it was so OP that WG had to seriously consider moving a premium up a tier or two, and then “compromised” be releasing a T6 Italian tech tree version of it, plus a T6 premium Russian version of it, says something about just how good that ship still is.
Yamato agree. I like my tier V Kongos and secondary Agincourt :-D. I probabbly pick Georgia at tier IX I kind like this deadly sniper with extra agillity. And may be nostalgia make some role here but I actualy love Amagi. Thats my favorite for many biased reasons but stil 10 410 guns at tier 8 was always good to have.
what surprises me the most is the Bourgogne. I cannot make the Jean bart work, yet I can make the Bourgogne work just fine. same turrets, same dispersion, same shells, the Bour works fine, the Jean doesnt
SL, you say you had some difficulty paring down your list to 5. Might want to think about including a short Honorable Mentions to the list prior to giving your number 1.
I like playing BBs the most but it’s becoming increasingly obvious that WG doesn’t like them. Subs and CVs seems to be the way to go now. BBs in matches against four to six subs and two to four CVs is already a dead BB before the match even starts. I’m saving up coal for a sub as that class is what is getting all the love and kills in matches these days. Maybe even a CV. They can’t be touched and can kill a BB every two to three minutes if they’re good. Untouchable, undectable ships are now what WoWS is all about in my opinion as a relatively new player.
@@tonepilotnot even DD's can dodge the super homing ADCAP torps from subs, and CV's rocket planes and bombers will happily dumpster cruisers, plus DD's are hit far harder when they are detected so I would still argue DD's and cruisers are hit just as hard as BB's.
I wish you would take up-tier regularity more seriously in these evals. Pommern especially, top tier= life is great/ tier ten, let alone multi-supership="thanks for not making my ship wait at port anymore".
The "Bor-gahn-ya" has got to be my favorite ship after Ohio. It was my first Steel and though I have many now, she would still be my first choice for steel. Yammy is a good ship, but I just never do as well as in my Ohio (or Bourg, for that matter).
Although not a BB, please review Clauswitz with new secondary commander skill & ship build It's absolutely insane, 12.5km/3.2sec (main battery 18.*/10s reload)
I really like Montana that she is a great jack of all trades ship. Not fantastic at something, but great at anything. You need to shoot from long range? She can You need to brawl? She can AA cover? Her AA guns go brrrrrr! And not to mention many underestimate her guns. Yes she hasn't much overmatch advantage, but not only are her guns consistent, but the AP hits like a truck. And together with Halsey, you better not underestimate her
My bb list: 5: Fuso. Really fun and silly 4: Kearsarge: great t9 premium 3: Pommern: for reasons listed in the vid 2: mecklenburg: this ship is a BLAST to play 1: Genisnau: my most played bb and insanely fun. Fear this ship in a downtier
Personally, I quite love Kii! Of course, I might be biased because the ships of the 8-8 fleet are my favorite designs, but Kii in the game is just great for me, simply because she feels like she can do it all. Guns? Powerful, quite accurate in spite of japanese dispersion, good volume of fire and caliber. Speed? 34+ knots with all upgrades! Armor? Meh, but not the end of the world... Secondaries? Actually great! Torpedoes? Situational, but usable! AA? Pretty good surprisingly! Etc. It's just a ship that feels like it can do it all just fine for me, and one of the ships I've had the most fun and comfortable games with.

A steel ship next month I have the Mecklenburg in my portl last year I had bourgogne 😊
Ohio is still a strong BB, just the overall game meta is a bit more long range. So fewer turrets means less hits, when 60% of the match is at max range.

You can't force out 5 of the greatest battleships of all time, not in this game. Where is the Thunderer? Where is the Musashi? Most importantly, where is the Incomparable??? You can't just arbitrarily rank battleships
Ohio not being on this list is a travesty. Ohio is arguably the most broken battleship in the game. I mean every TX season of CBs the Ohio is banned or limited. Thunderer and the st Vincent are runners up as well. I don’t understand pommern being on the list… it’s great but no where as good as Ohio or St Vincent. I’d also take a Georgia over Pimmern. Mass over pommern. There’s a decent list over pommern.

Yami is a great ship because she was a real ship that really saw action, unlike every Russian ship in this game.

Thunderer also doesn’t have short AP fuse. And that’s very painful for her enemies.

With the tier 9 F. Der Grosse, I have 11,4 secondary range.
I remember the olden days of having the Nagato and its 140mm secondaries that had AP made citadels here and there and it was glorious...

Schlieffen is a real spooky ship, mainly because of the secondaries
I love my CL's TBH, but yeah...I do like Warspite and Pommern as Battlewagons go.

To be honest Cruisers and DD's aren't really all that much better off. CV's and subs dumpster them hard too.

For me at tier 7 Nelson is a HE monster and tier 8 Massachusetts Allrounder, Yamato is boring but I like Pommern too. Warspite is okish and slow.

I was away for a very long time, since coming back I thought Ohio was the best battleship. What are her draw backs that kept her from this list?
Ohio is still a strong BB, just the overall game meta is a bit more long range. So fewer turrets means less hits, when 60% of the match is at max range.

Ohio not being on this list is a travesty. Ohio is arguably the most broken battleship in the game. I mean every TX season of CBs the Ohio is banned or limited. Thunderer and the st Vincent are runners up as well. I don’t understand pommern being on the list… it’s great but no where as good as Ohio or St Vincent. I’d also take a Georgia over Pimmern. Mass over pommern. There’s a decent list over pommern.
