    Beautiful restoration job!
    Those old engines are tough as pine knots!
    I have an old Troy-Bilt tiller and it had a Briggs & Stratton 10 horsepower engine on it but my brother made an adapter plate to fit the Kohler and I rebuilt the k181 put it on there and that 10 horsepower Briggs & Stratton engine couldn't hold a candle to the old Kohler!
    Enjoyed you video, I see this video is 8 years old, so I pray you and your kohler are still running like new,
    Thanks my friend for sharing!

    Looks great! I run synthetic oil in all my cubs, seems to help them run cooler

      Never use synthetic oil in a non filter engine. Aways 30 W conventional oil .

    I had one of these K161's on a log slitter that split 50 cord of wood in two years. Best engine Kohler ever built . I wish I still had that homemade log splitter , but no need for it now. Those were the good old days when your gas and electric bill would come asking for $40.00 to satisfy it. I loved to burn wood.

    The oil bath air filter is one of the reasons those engines lasted as long as they have.

    • @popsknows5648
      @popsknows5648 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @CLAYTON MOECHNIG i know your right. However i look for those old oil bath filters at the scrap yard all tge time. I will swap out the filters and put tge oul bath on if possible.

    Hey man how did you get tha back pulley off

    • @The5upermann1
      @The5upermann1  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hello. That is a good question. That pulley was hard to take off! Because the pulley is made from sheet metal and I damaged mine trying to take it off. I had to buy a new one. You will probably need to drill and tap the center of the pulley, and make a special jig to pull it from the center. Be careful not to pull from the outer edge of the sheet metal part of the pulley or it will bend. Good luck!

    How does this paint hold up to the heat on the cooling fins?

    • @The5upermann1
      @The5upermann1  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +jason sosbe It is holding up ok, but the head has discolored a little from the exhaust heat.. I probably would leave the head aluminum if I was going to do it again.

    Good job, except you shouldn’t paint EVERYTHING like don’t paint the crankshaft or the spark plug instead cover it, oh wait you wiped it off ok good job
