    Wonderful video. My first Filofax purchased from WH Smith was a brown personal Hamilton. I did have it up on eBay but decided I couldn't part with it. BTW I've just received a Sage personal Norfolk ( it has a full back pocket too) via Amazon...great price...I watch items on Amazon for weeks fascinated by the price fluctuations ... I didn't have high hopes for it, but I was wrong. Absolutely love it. I'm busy purchasing all the matching accessories. The "flatability" is very good and the stuffiness unbelievable. I'm in Filofax heaven...until I get bored and move into another. But the relationship looks promising. Thank you for all your insightful videos, Neil.

      I’ve seen a Norfolk close up, in a store, and it looked good.
      Thank you for all your feedback, and your kind comments.

    Very Interesting comparison. Without being able to touch the leather, I would have thought the zipper cover version would have been the earlier version and the one without the cover would have been newer. My logic is that it might have been a cost-cutting measure. Thank you for sharing.

      That's an interesting perspective. On the surface, I agree, but, as I understand it, the problem of paper snagging wasn't immediately apparent, but I suspect that, regardless of cost cutting measures later on, the snagging was an error that they would have wanted to fix as soon as possible. I'm guessing that the cost of changing the design would have been greater than all the returns due to paper snagging, but this is only my view.
      Thanks for your input as always. I appreciate it.

      @@Flatability Well the paper snagging issue did not help the Finsbury. 🤣 I suspect it was lower on the echelon tree than the Sherwood. 😊

      @@IvanRomero-ho8wv I forgot about the Finsbury. It’s quite surprising, given the fairly obvious snagging issue. I do have a Finsbury for review, but I haven’t got round to it yet.

      @@Flatability I'll be waiting to see your take on it. I liked it when I was using it but it was eclipsed by the Winchester fairly easily. 🤣

      On filowiki and eBay I found tan coloured Sherwoods with "of England" designation with no zipper cover. So I guess that the zipper cover design is not necessarily proof of younger "age".
      @flatability Your argument is logical, marketing decisions unfortunately frequently/often/mostly don't follow that type of technical and usage centric logic.
      I love these comparisons and product histories.

      Thank you, as always. And thank you for your interest about the "🟢".
      This is part of my "traffic light" system for channel members, who can also see 🟠 and 🔴 videos, and so can more easily distinguish between them.
      🔴 denotes videos that are exclusive to channel members.
      🟠 denotes early access to videos. After a few days, they will become available to everyone, and then "turn green".
      🟢 denotes videos available for everyone.
      I haven't got around to putting a greet dot in my older videos yet, but will do so over time.
      Best regards:-)

    This is one i KNOW I will be watching many times over! Personally speaking, I love these videos Neil. My interest of the older and vintage binders, with thorough reviews. I have a Sherwood I bought off a friend and she bought in while she lived in England back in the 90's. Mine has the 2 front gold corners and no zip cover. So I am guessing mine is a newer one??? Mine does have gold rings

    There is a type of leather that's mixed with plastic, for sure. I've found a good way to check.
    It's a shame as they can definitely make a good margin on a binders without stinging on materials and they'd put less people off. I bet one of us enthusiasts could drive their sales up much quicker than whoever is inventing clipbooks and cartoon flower style dividers! They don't know what people want at all.

      As a guy who sees filofaxes as working tools, I guess I'm not part of their target market.
      I might discuss this in a future podcast.

    This is a very interesting timeline of how the Filofax production has possibly changed?? Over what time frame Neil? 10 years or so was it?

    • @Flatability
      @Flatability  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I think it was possibly 3 years, but I would have to check the catalogues on the Philofaxy site to be certain.

    • @navarreau5
      @navarreau5 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @Flatability oh OK, so only 3 years difference roughly from the oldest to the newest Sherwood's you have there? That's even more interesting, the changes in such a short time.

    Snap shut like a clamshell 😄 that is quite mad really, making folders that won't stay open
    I saw someone excitedly unbox a "clipbook", those ones with a big weird spine that cannot be closed at all! Biggest pile of sh*t they've ever made.

    • @Flatability
      @Flatability  4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I agree; the notion of a binder that has to be kept open with both hands is bonkers!

    Do you have any Lockwood planners by Filofax? I am thinking about getting one in Garnet and would love your thoughts! (I’m sorry if you’ve already done a video on it, I had a look through your archives but didn’t see one. Please point me in the right direction if you done one!!)

      I'm sorry, but I don't have a Lockwood yet. They seem to be very popular, and I'm sure that I will get to review one later this year. Thank you for your kind comment. I appreciate that.

    Whatdiary inserts do you use -have you found a fountain pen friendly one?

    • @Flatability
      @Flatability  4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I've been very pleased with the recent range of "fountain pen friendly" inserts from Filofax themselves (although I personally won't be buying any with QR codes).
      Having said that, in my EDC binder (currently a mini sized Filofax Executive that I carry in my pocket at all times) I use plain paper cut down to A7 size, giving me an infinite choice of paper types.
      I might discuss this in a future podcast.
