    Solid concise explanation! The diagrams helped a lot too. Thanks!

    Important to note: When soft stepping, the 6 iron shaft gets put in the 7 iron head AND THEN the shaft is butt trimmed to 7 iron length. That is not mentioned in the video. Same thing for hard stepping. The shaft is always trimmed to the correct length. Otherwise people will think soft stepping is playing with longer shafts and hard stepping is playing with shorter shafts. Not so.

      I understand that if you're soft stepping you're trimming. but if you're hard stepping do you "extend" the shaft?

      @stiggsmasta ปีที่แล้ว

      @@williamyu1335 I'm guessing it would be a new uncut shaft. Maybe it's longer at the butt end

    Nice piece of knowledge and well explained Keenan!

    Would the 7 iron shaft into the 6 iron head also moves the bent-point closer to the butt end, and in essence, create a lower Ball flight profile?

    Is soft stepping in the long irons for a smoother swing a good idea? I’m playing X but my thinking is that it would promote a smoother swing to get the same kick out of the 5 & 4i

    So the 6 iron shaft placed in the 7 iron is soft stepping. My question is: Does the lenghth of the 6-iron shaft get cut to 7i length? if so, wouldnt that make it firmer? question is how much firmer.

    Thinking of buying a new set with the Project X LZ. I'm sort of in-between the 5.5 (regular +) and 6.0 (stiff) in flex but I like the weight of the 5.5. If I hard step the 5.5 one step, how will that play compared to the 6.0? Will it still be softer than the 6.0 or will it be very close to the 6.0 but just lighter? Also, when hard stepping, what shaft should one put in the PW or maybe even the 9 iron? I thought that PW and 9 iron usually used the same shaft. Will that mean that PW, 9 iron and also 8 iron will have the same shaft after hard stepping one step?

    I have tried contacting project x multiple times via phone, email, Facebook and no one has answered my question. I have a new set of px 5.5s 370mm parallel tip. Do I trim the tip for these or just the butt? Your website isn't clear at all, so much so your Facebook employee couldn't answer my question. If you go off the trimming guide trimming 4" (inch) would me the 370mm 385mm and it would never fit. In the UK " means inch. Is it inch or cm? Should I even trim the tip at all? They are going in a taylormade psi set. Thanks

    My scenario, I got newer irons that only went to 5i. To gap my clubs better I wanted a 22 4 iron. From my old set I had a 4i at 24 and an unused 3i at 21. I chose to bend the 3i to 22. Now I don't like the length. If I just cut the butt end a 1/2 inch to match my 4i length would that be a soft step? It is a 3i head with a 3i shaft. It is the DG s300

      Should I just get a new 4i shaft?

    If you soft step, does it increase torque?

  • @ryanc9742

    The only thing I wish you added- only .370 parallel tips get trimmed at the tip, 355 tapers get butt trimmed only

    I understand this process. But why is it used, other than just getting fitted with weight/stiffness. Why is these process used. Better distance control, hone in on specific distance. You say the pros use it why? It’s obvious some of us don’t have access to this. I’m in northern Indiana, do you know of a fitter that will fit to these specs?

      Look up Mr short game on YT. His video explains why someone might soft step a wedge. The vid is titled secret wedge.

    How does soft/hard stepping work with shafts like Project X LS that have unique bend profiles for each individual iron?

    • @TrueTemperGolf
      @TrueTemperGolf  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Works the same for LS because even though it is stepless, if you could see the steps, the tip section actually gets progressively longer by 0.5" increments as each shaft gets longer.

    • @tatelacey6058
      @tatelacey6058 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@TrueTemperGolf let me rephrase. I know it works the same, but does soft/hard stepping a design like that change the individual designs of the shaft. Will putting a 7i shaft that’s made specifically for a 7i cause a significant difference if I put it in an 8i?

    • @TrueTemperGolf
      @TrueTemperGolf  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@tatelacey6058 It wouldn't necessarily change the design of the shaft, it would change the way the shaft reacts and plays though! That's why some players hard step or soft step, to create an in-between or slightly different version of the original shaft. Hope that helps!

    What about the Tigers 8i shaft on a wedge myth? How does that work not at all?

    • @TrueTemperGolf
      @TrueTemperGolf  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Since Dynamic Gold 9i/W shaft are the same, and 8i would be a soft stepped wedge for a little extra spin!

      This was a great explanation!
      so if I'm going to double softstep my 6 .0, then we'll basically be putting a 5 iron shaft in my 7-iron?
      So it should play about 2/3 softer Flex?
      I suppose this is why they don't offer triple hard or soft step because at that point you should just change flex right? Since by your explanation a triple softstep would be playing 3/3rds flex softer

      my three vokey wedges were soft stepped with 8i project lz 6.0 shafts and I love it! I can really feel the clubhead descend into the ball much better.

    Sooo.. but tipp it after this step is done to make it "standard" length again or what?

    • @TrueTemperGolf
      @TrueTemperGolf  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, exactly! Taper tip iron shafts will always just be butt trim to length.

      @NiklasNester 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@TrueTemperGolf OK, thanks! Another question: I am planning to "one length" my 6, 5 & 4 Iron, what method would you guys recommend making that work optimally? My plan right now is simply to buy 2 extra #6 shafts and put them on my 5 and 4, would you have done things differently?
