    Just FYI: S200, S300, S400 Doesn't have anything to do with the tolerances of the weight sort. It has everything to do with shaft weight. S200 is 129 gram, S300 is 130 gram, and S400 is a 134 gram. The weight sort tolerance come into play with the DG Tour Issues. The Tour Issue versions are the tighter sort on weight, that is the only difference between the DG and DG Tour Issue. S400 is the stiffest of the three S200/300/400, That is due to having more steel in the shaft and therefore being stiffer. The profiles are the same among the S400/S300/S200. A good tool for this information is TrueTemper's TH-cam channel. Great content and keep up the videos.

    The Proper Way to put on Golf Club Grips -- Subscribed and liked -- I just learned about putting on grips - stuff I wouldn't have thought to do: pour the grip fill of solvent! Keep finger over the tip "weep" hole so it doesn't run out, agitate a bit, then un-finger the weep hole to sprinkle your tape with the solvent dribbling out! Then finger-block the weep hole again when you slide the grip onto the shaft, to let the air pressure build up and help you (not hinder you!) slide the grip all the way on because it helps swell up the grip with air so it's not so tight, before you release the pressure by un-fingering your weep hole!! Thanks.

    Wow, just found this video in May 2024 looking to learn more about Hard/Soft stepping. Those Taylormade P750's look very similar to the new 2024 Mizuno 243's.

    In the True Temper Tour issue iron shafts, I have heard the S400 flex shaft has a softer tip than the X100 iron shafts. Hence why most, if not all tour payers use the TT Tour S400 shaft in their wedges.

    Nice explanation of soft and hard stepping shafts. I’m currently experimenting with soft stepped PX6.5 taper tipped shafts in my Taylormade P770. I liked the weight of the 6.5 for my tempo but felt the flex of the 6.0 was a better fit. Results have been positive so far. Do you see the same 1/3 to 1/2 a flex difference when hard or soft stepping PX vs DG?

    Would love to see a build of some custom Jr golfer clubs.
    My son is 11 and his. Next set will probably be the Taylormade 770 are 790s. Would love to see the shaft selection process.

    • @McGolf
      @McGolf  5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      The selection process is the same as adults however the shaft availability is limited. It really depends in the golfer. I have found for juniors that are really playing well. That ACCRA and KBS has junior shafts that are excellent. Particularly if going into a OEM such as a TM

    Just got fitted with a sim2 max rdx 6.0 black speed was 108mph driver, as well as 770-Mc combo set with modus 120s flex with 7iron speed in high 80s. Unfortunately the modus are back ordered until mid June. Just wondering your thoughts on a comparable shaft so I can still order taylormade. Would a 120x modus soft stepped once or twice work? Said I was border line to x flex.
    My runner up was apex pro same shaft and there order dates are 1-2 weeks.
    Would rather stay taylormade!!!
    Thanks!!

    How would you go about reversing a soft stepped shaft? So that it’s original flex is restored. Thank you

    • @MrUlfdub
      @MrUlfdub 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Iron heads get heavier as you move down from long irons to short. That is why flex is affected when you install a shaft made for a heavier (or lighter) head into the next one up (or down). To reverse a SOFT STEP BUILD you would have to remove all the soft stepped shafts and install them in the next iron UP (so the current 4 iron shaft goes in the 3 iron head). The downside of that is that (unless you are installing NEW shafts) the clubs will end up 1/2 inch shorter (and therefor slightly STIFFER) than standard as they were cut to length in the original build.

    • @McGolf
      @McGolf  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Matt Revilock ribs were good! Lie is a personal specification based on height, arm length and swing dynamic usually not more than 2 degree from standard

    Jim great video. I am soft stepping some steel fibers. Since steel fibers are graphite would I need to add the extra half inch per shaft over standard steel length? Or just butt trim to standard steel length?

    • @McGolf
      @McGolf  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Henry Frankenberg length is length, you shouldn’t have to add length just because it’s Graphite. Oems used to do that for swing weight purposes. If you have the proper length then stay with it

  • @michaelmueller6092
    @michaelmueller6092 5 ปีที่แล้ว

    Jim, thanks for all your informative videos!
    When you were using frequency flex chart for regular, hard step and soft step, wouldn't the dots you marked be skewed left to right (diagonally down) if length is the horizontal axis, as opposed to straight up and down?
    Thx!

    • @McGolf
      @McGolf  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      dont forget the flex line is at a 45 to the length and cpm line. Soft stepping is taking the longer shaft making it shorter/ softer. to get to the original length

    I have a question. How does Loft of 1 Strong change the flight of a ball verses Standard loft? For the past two years I’ve played Ping G irons w graphite shaft. Standard lie and loft. They were fitted by a club fitter. I played four holes with a set of 0211 PXG, regular flex steel shafts irons with loft set to 1 strong loft. Standard lie. OMG, I hit them more accurately. (I’m a 20 handicap). What helped...but it got my attention.

    • @McGolf
      @McGolf  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I doubt it was the loft aspect of the club that made that happen. quite possibly the design, or shaft and combo

  • @botterweckwb

    Question on spine and flo. Does the stock shaft from manufacturer get this done? And for a driver with an adjustable tip, would the spine/flo get off if it was changed? Would you have to fine out were it was, and set it to where you want it and leave it. Does flo really matter in real play in your opinion? Lastly does adding a .5 inch extension bother spine/flo?

    • @McGolf
      @McGolf  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      This service usually not provided from the maker. The driver - it would depend on the adjustable tip, Callaway no, the rest yes. I like flo and spine as I think make a more consistent club. I have golfs that swear by and other that can’t tell

  • @Notagolffan
    @Notagolffan 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    How about a 3 iron shaft, with a 2 iron head, and the shaft is 1" longer than the standard 3 iron length? Do you think between the extra inch and the hard stepping they kind of cancel each other and the flex remains the same?

    Never been a Dynamic Gold fan, and after the video, never will be. The difference in shaft weights, for what should be the same shaft, is totally unacceptable. True Temper should take a long hard look at themselves. Chris

    So if the shafts are the same length, what makes one a 4i and the other a 3i shaft? You tipped the 3i less (like a standard 3i), but overall length is that of a 4i?

    • @McGolf
      @McGolf  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      not quite, on taper shafts the lengths will be discrete. longest at the 2 or 3 iron and shortest at the 9i or PW. trimming is from the butt end for length

    I bought a set of Srixons last year, and the 5 iron was just the head. I bought a 5 iron shaft and noticed the logo was not right. I called Golfworx, and they explained to me they were "half stepped". This was the first I had heard of that, so they figured I needed a 4 iron shaft for my 5 iron. So does this make it stiffer or weaker? This is where I am confused. Again, my 5 iron has a 4 iron shaft.

    • @McGolf
      @McGolf  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      pickin4you if a higher number shaft goes into a lower number head the is soft stepping I.e. 4 iron shaft into a 5 iron head
