I am a middle-aged expat living in Asia and while there are probably ample opportunities to "make new friends" I find its also risky, time-consuming and often backfires in some ways. Much better re-connecting to old friends, and while some may not be that interested the odds ratio for success is still way higher :)
Thank you once again for the content that you are posting. It is a struggle to maintain friendship relationships. I have changed countries twice over the past 10 years, I am struggling to find people which I have something in common with, I never felt so lonely.

here is the harsh truth, hardly anyone wants to deal with severely depressed people. my experience is that no one likes to be around negativity
Agreed - but if people understand why a person is down and negative, they are far more likely to be gracious and supportive.
