  • Hey friends! Today I'm talking about a new approach for my language learning plan for 2021. I'm breaking the year up into quarters and creating language goals and habits for each quarter.
Here's last year's video about my goals for some context about how much my plan has changed! • 12 languages for 2020 ...
Textbook mentioned in the video: Easy Tagalog (on Amazon) geni.us/easytagalog
    Timestamps:
    0:00 Intro
0:56 My focus languages, journals and language tracking
    03:02 3 month language plan
    05:32 Lessons, practice and immersion
    08:00 Habit stacking and journaling
    10:23 Language vs design goals
    11:18 Hungarian language plan
12:23 What about the other languages?
    13:35 Reviewing my plan
    14:35 Da end

I started a planner, a food diary, AND a personal journal all because of Lindie!! It’s so exciting even if it seems like a pain in the beginning, now every day I look forward to sitting down and writing and decorating them.

"Why am I in a hurry to learn languages?" I think that is so inspiring. I feel like a lot of language learners, I included, are tryna learn languages as fast as possible like there is no tomorrow. I think taking it slow, will help us learn the languages better and also have more time to rest.

@@LindieBotes have you heard of BALO? He's a French Graphic Design TH-camr that covers interesting design challenges. I just started watching him recently.
Then have you heard of the channel "Easy Languages?" They have interviewers around the globe and they go out on the street and interview native language speakers about simple topics, and subtitle them in the native language and English (they may have more subtitles available too?). It's been helpful for both French and Japanese :)

See taking things slowly and chill will be much better to build habits and stick to them as for me I keep watching polyglots, language learners and they're studying hours and hours in a day but guess what I'm completely chilling 'cause I'mma student and I have so many things and classes to take which means that I'm setting my priorities first and I'm happy with the progress that I've made! I always plan my language learning journey but what I have noted is that I spend too much energy most of the time planning and scheduling things than actually spending my time learning....I agree... we should relax more about the way we should approach our target language instead of feeling the pressure of working on deadlines and schedules. At the end motivation is what is going to keep ourselves on track!!!! Best wishes for your language learning journey!!!!!

Do you feel like it helps to have clear goals for the year? I generally just make sure I have a system in place to study my target language regularly so that I improve. Do you think I should also set some goals?

    • @SomedayKorean
      @SomedayKorean 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

@@AfroLinguo Depends on the person, I suppose. I like the process of setting goals because it makes me really think through what I want to accomplish and where I envision myself in a year (or however long the time span is that you're setting goals for). It's also fun for me to look back at the end of the year and see if my motivations/priorities have changed throughout the year.
Whether or not you set goals, though, is totally up to you. If you have a study system in place, then it sounds like you're set up for success as well. It probably wouldn't hurt to set some goals, though, because I find that after setting goals, I often get a boost of motivation haha. Again, totally up to you, though.
