I like the base model. If it had the manual gear box it would be an absolute killer base model. You’d even knock a grand off the price with the CVT delete making it an even greater value than it already is.
Finally a review of a base model! Thx! Loved your video style and also the side by side shots of previous generations. Once I saw the touchscreens on these things I went out and got a 2023 instead. I would have bought a 2024 otherwise and only considered the base model as I prefer a turn key ignition over push start. I don't like the lack of roof rails either. Totally changes the look for me. I would definitely have them installed.
2018-2023 base model Crosstrek was also very nicely equipped, auto ac, eyesight with adaptive cruise control and lane centering, apple car play/android auto, xmode, and so much more….
Hard to believe that the base trim gives you dual A/C and Adaptive Cruise! I rather like the dual screens, for the fact that there is not that HUGE dust/fingerprint magnet, front and center on the upper trims now.
Thanks for reviewing the base. So many reviews only show the higher ends. The only thing I found a little disturbing in the Crosstrek was, although the headroom inside was adequate, I hit my head when I got out of the car.
I'm really glad I found this! I just ordered a Crosstrek base today and was surprised that it'll be here in 2 months roughly. It's the first Subaru (had a 2021 Honda HR-V before) that I'm leasing and I haven't heard a bad thing about them.
Great review of the base. Thanks for lots of slow moving exterior shots from multiple angles. I do think the premium offers much more for the price specifically roof rails and paddle shifters.
Thanks for reviewing the base. Some of us buyers actually want simpler an d less expensive. That said you didn't answer many of my questions about this model.
One thing about this base trim that really stands out to me is that Subaru included privacy glass in the back windows of the Crosstrek. I own a 2016 base trim Forester and it didn't have the privacy glass . It is something that really makes a difference in both appearance and makes the car more comfortable in the summer. No other base trims previously that I have noticed have privacy glass, not the Forester, the Outback, or the Ascent. I hope for 2024 Subaru is changing and will be putting privacy glass on all these models. Do you know if this is going to be the case? Thanks for the quality review of this Crosstrek.
i had no idea that subaru did the dual screen on the base models. It looks like a nintendo 2DS. Why not just keep using the standard size 8 inch screen?? this seems dumb because it has almost the same functionality as the full tall screen asside from lacking wireless carplay and looking worse. other than that I think this is a really good evolution for the crosstrek. It looks more modern and updated but still looks like a crosstrek, I have a 2014 so a first gen one and this would be a nice upgrade.
Looks silly af. I miss the knobs and I like x mode being a button. My previous 16 Forester was my favorite Subaru interior. My current 18 isn't bad but I don't like it as much. Really don't like the design steps Subaru is taking inside and out
Yeah it’s pretty atrocious looking. I actually think the interior as a whole is a step back. Even the sport I could have sworn had a synthetic material for seats and this gen is just a ugly fabric. The interior is just not photographing well
I checked your inventory, it seems you only have 4 crosstreks available or in transit, unfortunately all premiums. No base models. :( I'm interested in purchasing a base... I prefer not having rails and I actually like the tacky 2 screen info system over the one screen -- don't judge.
Nice Subaru Crosstrek. The price of $27,000,00 seems to be in line with other vehicles in this class. Enjoy your reviews Zach. Looking forward to the next one.
Not bad, though the back really looks like the lifted Impreza hatchback it is. The roof rails might help with that. Now that there's a Crosstrek Wildnerness, Subaru needs to make a Crosstrek WRX. I see off-road prepped Crosstreks all the time so Subaru recognizes there's a market for that. Enthusiasts have been clamoring for a WRX hatch so Subaru should make a fast Crosstrek. Since the Crosstrek is Subaru's smallest/cheapest SUV I guess there's a place for the base model but the Premium trim isn't that much more expensive and brings much more equipment. It's hard to go wrong with a new Subaru. They're not the fastest or most luxurious cars but they're good at doing all-around car things.
My take is the opposite, the base has so much to offer why waste money on better trims?, unless you want a 2.5 L engine, or you have tons of cash to burn, but I find 2.0L quite good and underrated, unless people have driven fast high end cars their entire lives… Edit: hadn’t watched the vid yet, I was referring to the 2023 base, this one is lacking a bit.
The base engine should really be the 2.5L engine. The 2.0L just isn't nearly enough to lug around nearly 3500 pounds. I also wish the entire Crosstrek lineup was still Made in Japan like it is for the Canadian market, or at least I hope that we'll get powerful turbo and hybrid options for the Crosstrek that'll be Made in Japan. A guy can dream. I'd trade in my GR86 for a turbo or powerful hybrid Crosstrek.
@@Low760 The plugin hybrid Crosstrek was a joke here too. I meant a proper hybrid system like Toyota's that increases both MPG and power significantly.
Glad to finally see the base model. I was really curious about the base infotainment system and have to admit that it looks pretty cheap. The premium model is a worthy upgrade, IMO... except for the wheels. I think these simple black wheels on the base blow away ALL of the wheels on the more expensive models. Weird choice on Subaru's part. I would gladly "downgrade" to these wheels if they were available.
i hope that Subaru here in the Philippines would offer a base model XV/Crosstrek like this one. they've gotten so expensive over the years with minimal changes
There’s a strip of paneling, just below the rear windshield, that overlaps/cuts into the tail lights. On the higher trims it appears like glossy black glass. On this model it looks like it appears as just more body paneling
Somehow rear area and rear window seem to be smaller than the previous year. Infotainment screen is just OK. It is a problem to have to take your eyes from the road to look at the touchscreen and navigate the different windows just to adjust the speed of the fan or the temperature. Driving is the same as the previous models. Have 2 Crosstrek one with the 2.0 and another with the 2.5. 2.5 is definitely faster
Interesting, because I've been checking out the Crosstrek, Mazda CX-30 and 3 and sat in a Toyota Camry and RAV4 and the Subbie had by far the best seats for me. On all the others, the main problem for me was the usual culprit of the seat base's bolsters. I really do hate the seat bolsters on tons of newer vehicles.
Key or push button start? I miss the manual e-brake and knobs for HVAC. And front camera of the Outdoors model (Canada). But this looks good and imho the base or Convenience trim looks the best w lots of matte black trim and black wheels.
Will you also be reviewing the 2024 Base model of the Impreza when it releases and maybe compare it to this Base Crosstrek? (e.g. ride quality and how each handles). 4:51 - Would you say each of the dual screen feels as responsive as the 11.6 inch screen in the higher trim models? Great review!

In the video he said it came right off the truck. Usually, tire pressures are overinflated or not properly checked when they receive them in. Ours were around 50 psi when it arrived off the truck and didn't catch it until I was home 3 hours later.

For the same price I would buy the Mazda CX-30 Select. More power, more features and the interior is wayyyy nicer. Don't get me wrong, this is a decent car for the price, but the CX-30 punches way above it's weight class.

There whole driver interface is terrible. The big screen is even worse. The HVAC controls should be knobs and switches for ease of use. Trying to tap that little icon for fan speed is a complete joke.
@@danielfair4675 I am about proportions. Nice front half of the body... and weird rear half with too low roof. Looks as 2 different designers worked on them. As a result - tiny trunk and no head room enough at rear seat.
@alexl7996 there's actually plenty of headroom in the rear, friend at 6"2" didn't hit his head. The M-B GLA is pretty much the same setup body angle wise, and they're fine also. The exterior look is deceiving
